2. We are going to study the negative aspects of
genetically modified animals in three aspects
• Negative effects
• Health concerns
• Concern for animal welfare
Each of these factors represent different prospective
of the situation regarding genetically modifying
animals for human welfare
INTRODUCTION
3. •Genetic Contamination/Interbreeding.
•Competition with Natural Species.
•Increased Selection Pressure on Target and
Nontarget Organisms.
•Ecosystem Impacts.
•Impossibility of Follow up.
•Horizontal Transfer of Recombinant Genes
to Other Microorganisms.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
4. Genetic pollution is a controversial term
for uncontrolled gene flow into wild
populations. It is defined as "the
dispersal of contaminated altered
genes from genetically engineered
organisms to natural organisms.

Horizontal transfer of
recombinant genes to
others
Increased selection pressure on target
and nontarget organism
If they are introduced into the
environment they can affect
biodiversity. For
example, existing species
can be overrun by more
dominant new species.
Cross between GMO,s and wild
animals can result in a naturally
unstable offspring that is
manages to survive would be
harder to contain
Pressure may increase on target and
nontarget species to adapt to the
introduced changes as if to a
geological change or a natural
selection pressure causing them to
evolve distinct resistant populations.
The effects of changes in a single species
may extend well beyond to the ecosystem.
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT)
is the stable transfer of genetic
material from one organism to
another without reproduction
or human intervention. Transfer
occurs by the passage of donor
genetic material across cellular
boundaries.
The production of a
genetically modified animal
does not insure the
continuity of the organism
because of some short
commings in the resulting
organism
5. The main concerns around
GMOs involve allergies, cancer,
and environmental issues — all
of which may affect the
consumer. While current
research suggests few risks,
more long-term research is
needed
HEALTH
CONCERNS
6. •Invasiveness of procedures. The
generation of a new genetically
engineered line of animals often
involves the sacrifice of some
animals and surgical procedures (for
example, vasectomy, surgical
embryo transfer) on others.
•Large numbers of animals required.
•Unanticipated welfare concerns
