INTRODUCTION-
• From the beginning of the seventeenth century the colonist from the England and other countries
brought with them the customs, traditions, laws and institution from the mother country.
• At that time the people of America did not know the new civilization and culture when the new
settlement was built.
• HOW STARTED
• In the early years of the 20th century, the history of America's work of society remained the same
and in 1935 there was some change after which the unique and rapid change in the development of
America's social work, and more progress in the field of social work and social welfare then
England.

• The donation distribution was mainly done by the church in the people settling in England, only
to show kindness to the benevolent people, it was considered as the basis of charity, which was
said to period of charity.

LOCAL ASSISTANCE PERIOD

of the city in order to determine the need and the individual measures necessary in each
individual case.

prevention of pauperism, aiming to scientifically understand the causes of poverty and to
develop a model for rehabilitation instead of more palliative of financial issues.
PERIOD OF WORK WITH YOUTH

established to help the youth.

• The development of modern industry brought messes of workers and their families into the city.
They lived in overcrowded quarters without comfort or space for their children, while relatives
and friends were left in native rural villages and towns where they had come from large number
of the immigrants coming as immigrants to the USA lived in overcrowded flats and unsanitary
conditions.
• There was not much mutual understanding among the different racial and religious
background, and they spoke different languages. In 1887 neighborhood guild of new york city
was founded based on the idea of Toynbee hall in England. Soon hull house in Chicago founded
by Jane Addams and Ellen gates star in 1889, become popular.
SOCIAL SECURITY ACT (1935)
• There was no provision for the social work in the American constitution. After the economic
downturn the needy people started hoping for help from the government private institutions
tried to help these poor people, but due to the problem being too much, in order to deal with this
situation, the US government in 1932 called the emergency assistance and construction act
passed.
• Instead of ending short term loans under this act, a federal accountability system for social
welfare was created.
POVERTY ERADICATION PERIOD
• The main feature of this period, which begins after 1961, it the poverty alleviation program. It has
been exposed by us scientist that there is poverty in the US society which attracts the attention
of the government towards this problem, to remove this poverty from time to time, lows were
made such as:-
• In 1961- area development act
• In 1962- man power development and training act
• In 1964- economic opportunity
CONCLUSION
• It is concluded that social work has developed in USA too like other part of the world . it has
extended it working field and it has developed too in the context of methods like it used to work
with traditional methods at A time and now by and by, it has changed it with new method.
