This is the Powerpoint presentation that I have created to assist with my fund raising efforts to go to Cambodia. I would highly appreciate it if you could take 3:55 and give it a watch :)
2. My Prayer for This
Experience
My biggest heart desire can be
beautifully summed up in the song
you hear, “Give Me Your Eyes” by
Brandon Heath. I am surrendering
every aspect of this trip to God and
long to be filled with His heart,
vision, and love for the people of
Cambodia. I desire to see
everything in Cambodia as God
sees it.
3. Let Me Introduce
Myself
Some of you may not know me, so
let me take a moment to introduce
myself. My name is Brian Mitchell, I
have spent many years of my
Christian walk at Kamloops
Alliance. I am 23 years old and I
live in Calgary. I just completed my
third year of a Bachelor of Ministry
Degree in Intercultural Studies at
Ambrose University College in
Calgary.
4. Dear Friends of KAC
I hope that you all are doing well. I am so thankful
that the developmental years of my Christian journey
were spent at Kamloops Alliance. God did an
AMAZING work in my life through the youth ministry
and the wonderful people that have played a HUGE
role in mentoring me.
5. Exciting News!!!
I am super excited to share with you that I am doing
my onSite internship with Place of Rescue outside of
Phnom Pehn, Cambodia!
For those of you that know me and my life story, I
have known for a long time that I would be doing this
and I am SO thankful and excited that it is finally time
for me to go and bring Jesus in love and good deeds!
6. onSite is…
“…the overseas internship program of Ambrose
University College. It is 7-10 months of ministry and
study in a foreign nation. It satisfies the internship
requirements of the Bachelor of Ministry and
Bachelor of Theology programs, but is also an option
for Arts & Science students in any of Ambrose
University College's programs.”
7. Why onSite?
onSite is my required internship as part of my degree in
Intercultural Studies at Ambrose. I am excited to embark on this
journey and allow God to shape my love for a people group,
language, and culture.
8. Why Cambodia?
I am so thankful that God has called me to Cambodia. I am going to be
working at an AIDS shelter and orphanage called “Place of Rescue” outside of
Phnom Phen. I have always had a heart for those impacted by AIDS and I am
excited to bring the love of Christ in word and deed.
9. What will I do in
Cambodia?
•Intensive Khmer language study at
the University of Phnom Phen.
•ESL instruction for the children and
youth at Place of Rescue.
•Sports ministries with the children
and youth at Place of Rescue.
•Build relationships, learn the Khmer
language, and grow in a deeper
understanding of Cambodian culture.
10. Where in the world is
Cambodia?
•Cambodia is located in Southeast
Asia.
•Cambodia is surrounded by
Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam
•Cambodia’s capital city of
PhnonPhen is 12,111 kilometers
from Calgary!
•The southwestern portion of
Cambodia is on the Gulf of Thailand.
11. Facts about Cambodia
Under the reign of the Khmer Rouge, 1.5 million
Cambodians were killed through execution, torture,
starvation, and forced labor.
Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, has 564
slum areas housing 300,000 people, one quarter of
the city's population.
12. AIDS in Cambodia
Over 30,000 Cambodian children aged under 15
have lost their parents as a result of AIDS.
Diseases related to AIDS have killed about 90,000
people in Cambodia and the death toll is expected to
reach 236,000 by 2010.
13. AIDS in Cambodia 2
The prevalence of HIV infection in Cambodia among
people aged 15 to 49 had fallen from a peak of 4% to
0.9% by 2006. Between 67,000 and 100,000 people
live with HIV.
In 1994 there were 110 new infections per day; in
2002 there were 20; in 2006 there were between 3
and 4.
14. What is Place of
Rescue and what
does it do?
Place of Rescue is a safe haven for
families living with AIDS, orphan
children and orphan grannies and
young unmarried pregnant women
from the sewing factories.
Rescue was founded as a
Cambodian NGO in 2003. At that
time all they had were 15 houses for
AIDS families. Today Place of
Rescue is home to more than 100
orphans and 11 destitute elderly
women.
15. What Can I Do to Help??
I am in need of two kinds of support; Financial and
Prayer.
Financially, I am in need of approximately $10,000. I am
currently sitting at approximately $1300 raised to date and
for that I am truly thankful. Any and every gift means SO
much to me!
The $10,000 amount goes to a variety of costs over my 8
months in Cambodia.
