• Improve and maintain the overall health and vigor of the forest
• Improve the productivity and health of the watershed

14. A Field Inspection
• Locate the area the landowner wishes to thin.
• Determine the Basal Area before.
• Explain the 4 major criteria
• Reduce to Basel area of 40-60
• Cut the stumps to less that 6” above the ground
• Chip or masticate the slash
• Remove or pile fire wood in ½ cord piles in sunlight.
• Establish the Project Rate per acre

16. Carryout the project
• Landowner obtains a contract.
• Landowner does work or hires a contractor
• ETSWCD provides on site assistance and inspection
services.
• Completed project is inspected by the Estancia Basin
inspector for consistency with other SWCDs.
• Landowner submits bill and gets paid.
