15. Results in Drammen
We achieved a 13.2MW heat pump system which:
Runs almost non-stop from October to April
Delivers water at 90°C; 200,000,000kWh so far
Uses river water as the heat source
Has an efficiency ratio of 3
(we get three times more heat out than the electricity input)
Is much cheaper to run than the other heat sources:
one third the cost of biomass
one seventh the cost of LNG
one eighth the cost of LPG
Delivered 85% of the heat produce @ Drammen Jacob
Borchs Gate last year (67GWh of heat supplied to the
town each year)
17. Conclusions
Even in winter we deliver heat for the city
They involve technical challenges, but that’s what we do…
MOST CITIES ON A RIVER. LOTS OF HEAT. 2GW?
What about Belgrade?
19. What about Beograd?
Total rated
installed capacity 2.832
Length of DH
network 700 km (1.400 km with return pipelines)
Market structure
(demand)
•79 percent of residential customers
•21 percent of commercial customers
Average annual
consumption and
percentage of
certain fuels
•app. 350 million cubic meters of natural gas (85 percent)
•app. 46.000 tons of heavy fuel oil (13,5 percent)
•app. 3.200 tons of coal (0,4 percent)
•app. 2.000 tons of pellets (biomass – 0,25 percent)
•app. 1.500 tones of briquettes (biomass – 0,2 percent)
•app. 500.000 liters of heating oil (0.1 percent).
Average annual
production of
heat energy app. 3.500.704 MWh
20. The finances?
Basic cost data:
At present heat costs:
€45/MWh
Electricity costs:
€65/MWh but we get 3.5 units of heat for this at 75C, so
Heatpumps sourced from the river make heat for €18.7MWh
All we need is a massive infrastructure investment....but it is worth it.
We can also make cooling as a by-product (data centres)
22. Don’t just see a river........ see a heat source
