Presentation by Dr. Orville Grey (NAP Focal Point, Climate Change Division in Jamaica's Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation), which was given at the workshop "Jamaica’s National Adaptation Plan: Integrating Climate Change into National and Ministerial Budgets" in July 2017.
2. Importance of the National Adaptation
Planning process
Building resilience to impacts of climate change is of highest priority
Major threat to island’s overall development - key economic
sectors such as water, tourism, agriculture, fisheries and forestry are
highly dependent on natural resources and are climate sensitive
Already seeing changes and impacts on our built and natural
environments from climate change
Climate change likely to significantly alter quality and available
quantity of Jamaica’s natural resources,
Imperative to adopt necessary policies and actions to ensure that
adaptation strategies are mainstreamed into economic and fiscal
management, development of country’s physical infrastructure,
land use and coastal zone planning and management
