2. GER Purpose
• Building on the Global Exploration Strategy, create framework for inter-
agency discussion on
– Common goals and objectives
– Long-range human exploration scenarios
– Coordination of exploration preparatory activities
• Inform agency decisions affecting exploration preparatory activities
2
3. GER Long-range Strategy
• Start from ISS
• Expand human presence into the solar system in a step-wise way
• Enabling human mission to Mars as long-term horizone goal
• Optional pathways reflecting feasible mission sequences

4. Common Goals
Common Goals drive what we do in space
and how we create benefits to society
• Search for Life
• Extend Human Presence
• Develop Exploration Technologies and
Capabilities
• Perform Science to Support Human
Exploration
• Stimulate Economic Expansion
• Perform Space, Earth, and Applied Science
• Engage the Public in Exploration
• Enhance Earth Safety

5. Strategic Principles
Strategic principles drive development of
technical feasible and programmatically
implementable optional mission scenario Asteroid Next
• Capability driven framework
• Exploration value
• International partnerships
• Robustness Moon Next
• Affordability
• Human-robotic partnership

7. Key Challenges for Roadmapping Effort
• Agencies have different priorities for space exploration: How to
converge on a common plan?
GES serves as common reference framework
Plans of each agency are reflected
Major effort devoted to consensus building
Analysis work is openly shared
Emphasis is put on identifying commonalities (e.g. goals, strategic
principles)
• Specific interests and committed resources of agencies in
roadmapping effort are different: Does the roadmap reflect the views
of all ISECG agencies?
Engagement and participation at different levels possible
Work performed in full transparency to all ISECG members
Best idea counts irrespective of origin
