6. Synopsis
The synopsis is a brief outline of your future work.
It is basically brief summary or short description of
all important points of your study.
7. Components of Synopsis
1. Topic/ Title of Research
2. Introduction
3. Review of Literature
4. Statement of the Problem
5. Significance of the study
6. Objective of Research
7. Hypothesis
8. Research Methods and Approaches
9. Limitation
10.Bibliography
8. 1.Topic / Title of Research
• Title Should reflect the objectives of the study. It must be
written after the whole synopsis has been written so that
it is a true representative of the synopsis.
• Topic should be Hook Statement, eye catching,
interesting and arouse curiosity.
10. 3.Review of Literature
A review of the relevant literature is another very important
part of the synopsis, showing the work done previously in
the area of proposed research is essential to plan further
research effectively and in a proper way. The information
given in the review should be supported by references.
11. 4.Statement of the Problem
The researcher has to clearly identify the problem/issue
selected for thesis.
12. 5.Significance of the study
It emphasized on the significance/ importance of the
research work/study i.e. why we selected the topic under
discussion.
13. 6.Objective of Research
An objective is an intent of what the researcher wants to
do. Broad objectives to be achieved should be clearly
mentioned and these should be itemized. These objectives
will indicate the major aspects of the study to be
undertaken.
14. 7.Hypothesis
A hypothesis is a statement showing expected relation
between two variables. It is a tentative solution to a
problem to be established or proved, modified or even
rejected in the light of findings.
15. 8. Research Methods and Approaches
1. Study Design: Mention name of the appropriate study design.
2. Setting: Name and place where the research work is to be conducted.
3. Duration of Study: How long will the study take with dates.
4. Sample Size: How many individuals will be included. If there are groups how
many per group?
5. Sampling Technique: Type of sampling technique employed.
6. Sample Selection:
Inclusion criteria: on what bases will patients be inducted in the study.
Exclusion criteria: On what bases will patients be excluded from the study.
7. Data Collection Procedure: (Primary & Secondary)
8. Data Analysis Procedure: Relevant details naming software to be used, which
descriptive statistics and which test of significance if and when required,
specifying variables where it will be applied.
18. Length of Synopsis
It will be difficult to define an overall length for a synopsis
for MSc/M.Phil./ Ph.D. Research, Whereas it should be
concise as far as possible and avoid repetitions, The total
length of a synopsis may run from 1,500 words (about four
A-4 size pages is sufficient)
