She takes you to meet her best friends:
this signifies a big step in your relation-
ship. Friends can be the toughest of judges
at times, with eyes like laser beams scan-
ning every inch of your existence. Never-
theless, relax! They usually have good in-
tentions –well, most of the time. The trick
is not to try too hard; let your personality
shine, not the bells and whistles hanging
off your lapels or collars.
Keep your look easy-going but show
some of your own individuality. Don’t go
extreme, and keep the new trend experi-
ment for a night out with your mates.
Try a polo shirt or a chambray shirt over
some well-fitted plain dark denim (very
minimal distress effects, preferably
none, and absolutely no funky washes).
Finish off with a soft casual jacket,
maybe jersey or cotton, and a good pair of
casual leather shoes.
THE LABELS: A.P.C. is simply cool, with
a good balance of smart-meets-casual.
It doesn’t scream ‘trying hard’. Try The
Kooples for something a little bit more je
ne sais quoi •you’ve really got to trust the
French to give you something effortless.
DO: Engage in conversation with her
friends and not just her. This is the chance
to find out a different side of her from what
you already know. Be open about your-
self; it shows you’re honest and straight
forward.
DON’T: Brag. Nobody likes a braggart.
Chances are she’s already told her friends
about your successful career; not showing
off gives you a humble edge and a sign of a
guy who is not consumed by superficiality.
Your appearance is judged within the first
ten seconds of meeting her, so make those
seconds count. Arrange the first date so
that it’s not in a formal setting: this will
allow you to dress more casually, comfort-
ably and, most importantly, feel confident
in your outfit. Try mixing smart and
casual elements together, such as a white
T-shirt over some tailored trousers with
a blazer and some plain leather sneakers.
You want to look sharp and polished but
also relaxed and not boring.
Sometimes men make the mistake
of thinking that they have to be “sexy”
on the first date and, by that, they think
tight. Let’s clarify: that is not ok. It’s fine
to show off some (we emphasize some) of
your physique. It’s fine to be a gentle pea-
cock, just avoid looking like a pucker fish
–she will find that vulgar. A fine knitted
top or a fine cotton shirt will do the trick,
provided that the buttons are not pulling.
THE LABELS: Joseph is great for a basic
but sophisticated look with a blazer and
a fine knitted top. Common Projects do
the best plain leather sneakers in many
colours; a pair will be a great investment
for your wardrobe, beyond your dating
encounters.
AVOID: Muscle Ts; low slung, nipple
grazing V-necks; and anything that may
appear to be pulling at the seams. No
funny slogan T-shirts, no drop-crotch,
and definitely no flip-flops!

Remember that this isn’t a Ben Stiller
movie: not all parents will come at you
with a lie detector. It is about presenting
yourself in the best way possible in every
aspect of your life. Dress too casually and
they’ll think that you’re a slob; dress too
smartly and they’ll think you’re working
too hard.
You will need to impress on them that
you are a man who is worthy of their girl.
Simple, clean with potential, is best for
this occasion. Mix some traditional pieces
(sense and responsibility) with a little con-
temporary edge (individuality and charm).
Strike the perfect balance with our win-
ning formula: a plain dress shirt with some
smart chinos (the most versatile alterna-
tive to your favourite denim), a sports
jacket and a good pair of leather lace-ups
or wingtip ankle boots. Optionally, you
could put on a fine knit sweater to break in
some colour but we know you will probably
be sweating like you’ve run a marathon.
Lastly, add some sophistication and
accessorise with your best watch: the one
First Getaway
that your dad gave you –if he hasn’t trusted
you with it yet, then borrow it! You are a
grown up with responsibility now so dress
like a real man. Tuck in your shirt and pull
up your trousers, please: absolutely no
excuses for scruffiness.
THE LABELS: Ralph Lauren has some
classic and timeless pieces that will bring
out the more mature side of you. Think of
this as the time to get some proper clothes.
Calvin Klein Platinum Label is modern
with a no-nonsense smart attitude. Bally
also has some great pieces that feel formal
but have a laid back and approachable vibe.
PRE-DATE PREP: Scruffiness is a no-
no. Shave, get a hair cut, and groom your
nails so you look fresh and clean. Don’t go
straight from work. Make a pit stop and
freshen up and change clothes before you
meet them.
AVOID: Watching Meet the Fockers prior
to the date with the parents. ♦

Seal the deal with your first holiday to-
gether as a couple: a time to show her your
more relaxed side, away from the usual
humdrum of your daily lives. Be prepared:
you need to take the lead to show her that
you’re a competent traveller and that you
are able to take care of her away from
home. Ditch your sporty gym bag and get a
real travel bag: Mulberry has a great range
of hold-alls and overnight bags.
If we are being honest, we recommend
a beach holiday: it’s romantic and inti-
mate. Make sure to get some well-fit swim
trunks; avoid baggy board shorts and no
skimpy briefs! Try some more classic swim
shorts that come up a little above the knee
(it’s a flattering length for all guys) –print
optional. Wear some colour and prints if
you don’t normally do; you’re on holiday,
it’s fine. Don’t forget to bring some smart-
ish trousers (linen is good for hot places)
and a shirt (short sleeves are acceptable),
as you should take her on one nice dinner,
at least. Most importantly, pay attention to
your skin and bring some good sun block,
but get some colour: the tan will keep you
sexy a few weeks after you return home.
KEY ITEMS: Orlebar Brown’s “Bulldog”
swim shorts for top-notch swimwear; clas-
sically cool shades like Persol’s 714; por-
table speakers, Jawbone’s Mini Jambox
for mood building (champagne optional);
and good sunblock: Laroche Posay Ultra
Light for the body and Kiehl’s Facial Fuel
UV Guard for the face.
RESEARCH ON: Main local attractions
and best hang out spots, including a good
bar and the perfect restaurant for your
romantic dinner date. Avoid tourist traps:
she will be impressed that you have read up
on the destination before getting there.

As old fashion as it seems, you can tell a great man
by looking at his jacket: the fit, the fabric, how he
accessorizes all make a difference. So listen up lads,
you don’t want to miss these sartorial lessons to melt

THE CASUAL JACKET
The English heritage casual
jacket, more commonly known
as a “blazer,” is made similarly
to the dinner jacket but cut
more casually. It’s distinguish-
ing characteristic is metal
buttons, which reflects its his-
tory - an association with the
navy. Traditional blazers, which
feature either single-breasted
or double-breasted buttons, are
commonly seen in films set in
the Edwardian era, though the
blazer remains a common
article of English school
uniforms.
A blazer can be worn
with various types of
clothing: over a collared
shirt with either casual
linen pants or jeans. Its
sporty heritage makes
this type of jacket very
adaptable to all occa-
sions, especially busi-
ness-casual events and
leisurewear activities.
Nowadays, some blazers
even come with their own
unique trouser pairings,
elevating the jacket’s status
to a more luxurious garment.
THE SPORT JACKET
The first Harrington jacket was
made in the 1930s by Grenfell of
Burnley in Lancashire, England
and Baracuta of Stockport,
Greater Manchester. The G9
model remains in production
today thanks to style icons such
as Steve McQueen and Elvis
Presley – the latter wore one in
his 1958 movie King Creole
– though its popular-
ity peaked in the 1960s
and 1970s, when it was
fashionable among mods
and skinheads. The Har-
rington Jacket is typically
made of cotton, polyester,
wool, or suede. Versatile and
timeless, the Harrington
jacket can be worn with
any trousers, from jeans
to tapered crisp linen. For
a modern look, balance
the sporty aspect of the jacket
with more formal wear, such as
leather loafers or brogues. ♦

HOW TO CARE
FOR YOUR JACKET
• Iron and press: Steam iron your
jacket according to fabric care
labels and avoid dry cleaning
unless it is completely necessary.
• Brush and dust: Invest in a
good clothing brush made from
natural bristle or a microfiber
cloth brush.
• Hang it: Use a wide wooden
hanger to keep the jacket in
great shape and avoid hanging
your jacket over a chair on your
workdays.
• Keep it light: Avoid putting
too much weight in the jacket’s
pockets, especially inner pockets
where the lining fabric is weaker.

A/ You have the luxury of making your ap-
pointment anywhere, but it’s highly advised
to go to Canali’s flagship store at Siam Para-
gon (M Floor) to get the full experience.
B/ Decide on what pieces you want to get
made: suits, overcoats, waistcoats, tuxedos
or working dress shirts.
C/ Choose your fabrics, patterns, colours,
prices and weights, all of which are labeled
and detailed. It’s a policy of Canali that
every fabric is sourced and manufactured
in Italy.
D/ Select any piece from the store, whether
it is a suit or jacket, to be the ‘master gar-
ment’ and the type of fit you want.
E/ The in-house tailor, Mr. Surin Pansri,
will then take your measurements and
record them in the specially designed form,
which will then be scanned and sent onto
the globally linked Canali database.
G/ After six weeks, the garment will be sent
from the headquarters in Sovico, Italy to
Thailand, where further alterations can be
made locally if necessary. ♦

TUNA’S PICKS
DARE YOU FLARE? Your
trousers, I mean. I agree it’s
quite the “marmite” situation,
but isn’t that the case with most
seventies comeback trends?
Patchwork, velvet, shag rugs,
chest hair; one man’s rapey
moustache is another’s Mum-
ford & Sons, yada yada. What’s
more, fashion in the seventies
was a largely ageist affair, cham-
pioning doe-eyed youngins with
their straw-fine hair, self-raising
bosoms, and wriggly waistlines
that didn’t seem to expand,
“no matter how many special
brownies I put away”. Indeed,
most of us will find that that
ship has long sailed, and most
women today can only get away
with wearing crocheted tube
tops up to a certain age—around
the same time they begin to
regret their belly button pierc-
ings and Tweety Bird tattoos—
before it starts to gets just plain
uncomfortable for everyone
(particularly their children).
Thankfully, there’s a less
polarizing, less agonizing, less
mid/quarter-life-crisis-feeding
way to stay in style. Are you
ready for this? Accessories. No,
it’s not the easy-out, "fat girl"
solution; it’s simply the solu-
tion, oh dear reader. For you
see, bell-bottoms and boob
tubes aside, the key to nailing
seventies sex appeal lies in the
accessories. For every suede
trapeze skirt, there is a woven
leather belt; atop every center-
part, a felted floppy hat; in front
of every dilated pupil, a pair of
colorfully tinted lens, and so on.
But look, it’s not, like, a fancy
dress party, ok? Keep it fresh
with my selection of trippy frills
that are bound to thrill. You’re
welcome. ♦

And this spring/summer, the
messier the better, the kookier
the cooler: coloured extensions,
quadrupled sections, more
twists and turn than a croissant
and bear claw’s lovechild (yum).
They come casual, contempo-
rary and begging to be worn at
all occasions. Our current fave?
This here beachy braid, created
by celebrity hairdresser and
Tresemmé ambassador, Som-
jate “James” Klomnoi:
1. Prior to blow-drying, use a
sea salt spray or dry shampoo
on dry hair to add extra volume.
2. Divide your hair into two
equal sections, parting down
the middle. Braid each sec-
tion separately using a fishtail
braid, keeping in mind to cross
the sections underneath each
other rather than over, creating
an inside-out braid. Start from
your temple and braid right to
the ends.
3. Once both sections have been
braided, tie the two braids into
a knot, tucking the ends of the
braids under your nape. Those
with longer hair may want to
tie your two braids into a knot
and then a bow before hiding
the ends.
4. Secure the braids with bobby
pins. Gently massage your
braids to loosen them for a
messier, more natural look.

1 week pre-date ♥♥♥♥♥
If you’re fortunate to get asked out with
ample prep time, use it to your advantage.
Start looking and feeling good in advance—
It’s important to feel your best from within.
If you don’t exercise regularly, do some light
yoga or exercise leading up to the date. Try
Kriyoga, Thonglor, offering over 99 classes
a week, and you can have your first class for
free (kriyoga.com) or Yogatique Bangkok
on Sukhumvit 23, where they offer a ‘back-
packer special’ package: pay 1,000 baht and
you can join any number of classes for one
week (yogatiquebangkok.com).
If you want to have your hair cut or
colored, do it a week before so you have time
to adjust to your new look. The experts at
MOGA x Aveda in Central Embassy, sug-
gests trimming off any split ends a week
before your date. “Additionally, you could
consider refreshing your look by coloring
your hair, going 2-3 shades lighter than your
natural hue,” says the team. “Obviously, it’s

Obviously, this isn’t the ideal time to be
pigging out on late night chicken nuggets.
Eating well in general should be a no-brain-
er, not just for a date’s sake but definitely for
your own, you know, life, but perhaps this
is the little kick your chicken nugget-eating
bum needed thus far. Start by incorporating
good protein, such as white fish, in your diet
and don’t forget to eat lots of fruit and veg-
etables for great looking skin. Feeling over-
whelmed in the health aisle at the Gourmet
Market? Can’t tell your wheat germs from
your wheatgrass? Call the professionals.
Raitong Organics can get you started with
their non-committal Munching Boxes—no
regimental diet rules, just good, clean food
(raitongorganicsfarm.com).

Exfoliate your skin well in the days lead-
ing up to a waxing (two days before the date)
to get the best waxing result. Try Clarins
Exfoliating Body Scrub.
2 days pre-date: ♥♥♥
If he hasn’t left you with much notice,
there’s only time for the bare essentials. And
by bare, we mean bare. Decide which hairs
you’d rather do without (generally speaking,
the ones on your legs, arms, underarms and,
what the hey, bikini area) and make sure to
wax a few days prior to your date night so
that your skin won’t be inflamed on the big
day. An appointment with Strip: Ministry
of Wax will get you sorted (strip-thailand.
com). Don’t forget to stock up on their
aftercare products (we swear by their X’ed

On the day of the date ♥
If you wake up with puffy eyes, use Puffy
Eye Attack by Soap and Glory and, before
putting on your makeup, prime your under
eyes with You Won’t Believe Your Eyes, also
by Soap and Glory.
Have a long bath or shower. It will help
you relax and smell good for your date night.
Avoid heavy perfume. You don’t want
your date to be overwhelmed by strong
scents. We love Jo Malone Red Roses.
The team at MOGA swear by a little
secret weapon to keep hair looking good
on date day: dry shampoo. “Carry around a
small can of dry shampoo in your purse. It’s
great for removing excess shine and grease
and retaining that freshly washed feeling.”
Make sure you eat a little before the date
to avoid feeling faint.
Brush and floss teeth before putting on
your outfit and makeup.

these preparations!

If your inner-James Dean is waiting to be
released from the cage, roll them ciggies in
your sleeve and book a spot at Black Amber,
where they specialize in slick, classic cuts
and stylized ‘staches.
These guys are in demand so you have to call
for a spot. That said, if you don’t heed our advice,
you’ll find yourself sitting on a plush Victorian
sofa, flipping through a German Penthouse mag,
getting your shoes shined, and drinking some
straight-up bourbon for an hour.
After leaving with a fresh pompadour that
‘Tii’ Suchararin Proajongbua or ‘Nui’ Pong-
pitaya Charoensap styled for you, you’ll be
feeling dapper and perhaps a bit tipsy. But
this type of ‘do could do you in if its not well
kempt; that’s why Tii and Nui don’t leave
home without wide-tooth combs in their back
pockets and a full supply of pomade on hand to
maintain that wet look.
Despite their current in-demand status, the
two started at the bottom and worked their way
up. Nui started off at his mom’s salon, cutting
hair for his friends. Then, he became a street
barber for a few years at JJ Green before finding
himself in this tasteful den.
Sweeny Todd inspired Tii to focus his craft on
facial hair; he now gets his kicks from grooming
wild, unkempt beards and has a foolproof sys-
tem for how you should choose your cut. “It all
depends on the shape of your face,” Tii said. “If
you have fat cheeks, go for a full beard or styles
with side burns like the Winfield, Franz Josef, or
the Chin Curtain.” If you have a skinny face, he
suggests you go for the handlebars.
If you’re the unfortunate type that can’t grow
a full-on beard, there are no products to make it
thicker but Tii says to just go for it: all it will cost
you is one unfortunate grooming month and, in
the end, it might look good anyway. Go for it. ♦
Black Amber is open Monday to Friday from

  • 1. TWOMAGAZINE She takes you to meet her best friends: this signifies a big step in your relation- ship. Friends can be the toughest of judges at times, with eyes like laser beams scan- ning every inch of your existence. Never- theless, relax! They usually have good in- tentions –well, most of the time. The trick is not to try too hard; let your personality shine, not the bells and whistles hanging off your lapels or collars. Keep your look easy-going but show some of your own individuality. Don’t go extreme, and keep the new trend experi- ment for a night out with your mates. Try a polo shirt or a chambray shirt over some well-fitted plain dark denim (very minimal distress effects, preferably none, and absolutely no funky washes). Finish off with a soft casual jacket, maybe jersey or cotton, and a good pair of casual leather shoes. THE LABELS: A.P.C. is simply cool, with a good balance of smart-meets-casual. It doesn’t scream ‘trying hard’. Try The Kooples for something a little bit more je ne sais quoi •you’ve really got to trust the French to give you something effortless. DO: Engage in conversation with her friends and not just her. This is the chance to find out a different side of her from what you already know. Be open about your- self; it shows you’re honest and straight forward. DON’T: Brag. Nobody likes a braggart. Chances are she’s already told her friends about your successful career; not showing off gives you a humble edge and a sign of a guy who is not consumed by superficiality. Your appearance is judged within the first ten seconds of meeting her, so make those seconds count. Arrange the first date so that it’s not in a formal setting: this will allow you to dress more casually, comfort- ably and, most importantly, feel confident in your outfit. Try mixing smart and casual elements together, such as a white T-shirt over some tailored trousers with a blazer and some plain leather sneakers. You want to look sharp and polished but also relaxed and not boring. Sometimes men make the mistake of thinking that they have to be “sexy” on the first date and, by that, they think tight. Let’s clarify: that is not ok. It’s fine to show off some (we emphasize some) of your physique. It’s fine to be a gentle pea- cock, just avoid looking like a pucker fish –she will find that vulgar. A fine knitted top or a fine cotton shirt will do the trick, provided that the buttons are not pulling. THE LABELS: Joseph is great for a basic but sophisticated look with a blazer and a fine knitted top. Common Projects do the best plain leather sneakers in many colours; a pair will be a great investment for your wardrobe, beyond your dating encounters. AVOID: Muscle Ts; low slung, nipple grazing V-necks; and anything that may appear to be pulling at the seams. No funny slogan T-shirts, no drop-crotch, and definitely no flip-flops! It is about presenting yourself in the best way possible in every aspect of your life. Dress too casually and they’ll think that you’re a slob; dress too smartly and they’ll think you’re working too hard. You will need to impress on them that you are a man who is worthy of their girl. Simple, clean with potential, is best for this occasion. Mix some traditional pieces (sense and responsibility) with a little con- temporary edge (individuality and charm). Strike the perfect balance with our win- ning formula: a plain dress shirt with some smart chinos (the most versatile alterna- tive to your favourite denim), a sports jacket and a good pair of leather lace-ups or wingtip ankle boots. Optionally, you could put on a fine knit sweater to break in some colour but we know you will probably be sweating like you’ve run a marathon. Lastly, add some sophistication and accessorise with your best watch: the one First Getaway that your dad gave you –if he hasn’t trusted you with it yet, then borrow it! You are a grown up with responsibility now so dress like a real man. Tuck in your shirt and pull up your trousers, please: absolutely no excuses for scruffiness. THE LABELS: Ralph Lauren has some classic and timeless pieces that will bring out the more mature side of you. Think of this as the time to get some proper clothes. Calvin Klein Platinum Label is modern with a no-nonsense smart attitude. Bally also has some great pieces that feel formal but have a laid back and approachable vibe. PRE-DATE PREP: Scruffiness is a no- no. Shave, get a hair cut, and groom your nails so you look fresh and clean. Don’t go straight from work. Make a pit stop and freshen up and change clothes before you meet them. AVOID: Watching Meet the Fockers prior to the date with the parents. ♦ Meet the Parents Cotton shirt, Gitman Bros, available at Uncensored Bracelet, Tod’s Backpack, Want Les Essentiels De La Vie, available at Contemp Men Sunglasses, Tod’s Leather sandals, Brioni Hermès CottonT-shirt,Rag &Bone, availableat nexttoNORMAL Shaving cream, Truefitt & Hill Cotton shirt, A.P.C. Be prepared: you need to take the lead to show her that you’re a competent traveller and that you are able to take care of her away from home. Ditch your sporty gym bag and get a real travel bag: Mulberry has a great range of hold-alls and overnight bags. If we are being honest, we recommend a beach holiday: it’s romantic and inti- mate. Make sure to get some well-fit swim trunks; avoid baggy board shorts and no skimpy briefs! Try some more classic swim shorts that come up a little above the knee (it’s a flattering length for all guys) –print optional. Wear some colour and prints if you don’t normally do; you’re on holiday, it’s fine. Don’t forget to bring some smart- ish trousers (linen is good for hot places) and a shirt (short sleeves are acceptable), as you should take her on one nice dinner, at least. Most importantly, pay attention to your skin and bring some good sun block, but get some colour: the tan will keep you sexy a few weeks after you return home. KEY ITEMS: Orlebar Brown’s “Bulldog” swim shorts for top-notch swimwear; clas- sically cool shades like Persol’s 714; por- table speakers, Jawbone’s Mini Jambox for mood building (champagne optional); and good sunblock: Laroche Posay Ultra Light for the body and Kiehl’s Facial Fuel UV Guard for the face. RESEARCH ON: Main local attractions and best hang out spots, including a good bar and the perfect restaurant for your romantic dinner date. THE CASUAL JACKET The English heritage casual jacket, more commonly known as a “blazer,” is made similarly to the dinner jacket but cut more casually. It’s distinguish- ing characteristic is metal buttons, which reflects its his- tory - an association with the navy. Traditional blazers, which feature either single-breasted or double-breasted buttons, are commonly seen in films set in the Edwardian era, though the blazer remains a common article of English school uniforms. A blazer can be worn with various types of clothing: over a collared shirt with either casual linen pants or jeans. Its sporty heritage makes this type of jacket very adaptable to all occa- sions, especially busi- ness-casual events and leisurewear activities. Nowadays, some blazers even come with their own unique trouser pairings, elevating the jacket’s status to a more luxurious garment. THE SPORT JACKET The first Harrington jacket was made in the 1930s by Grenfell of Burnley in Lancashire, England and Baracuta of Stockport, Greater Manchester. The G9 model remains in production today thanks to style icons such as Steve McQueen and Elvis Presley – the latter wore one in his 1958 movie King Creole – though its popular- ity peaked in the 1960s and 1970s, when it was fashionable among mods and skinheads. The Har- rington Jacket is typically made of cotton, polyester, wool, or suede. Versatile and timeless, the Harrington jacket can be worn with any trousers, from jeans to tapered crisp linen. For a modern look, balance the sporty aspect of the jacket with more formal wear, such as leather loafers or brogues. ♦ TRENDS 86THE STYLE FILEs HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JACKET • Iron and press: Steam iron your jacket according to fabric care labels and avoid dry cleaning unless it is completely necessary. • Brush and dust: Invest in a good clothing brush made from natural bristle or a microfiber cloth brush. • Hang it: Use a wide wooden hanger to keep the jacket in great shape and avoid hanging your jacket over a chair on your workdays. • Keep it light: Avoid putting too much weight in the jacket’s pockets, especially inner pockets where the lining fabric is weaker. •Proofit:Storeindustproofgar- mentbagandwhiletravelingstore itinaspeciallymadejacketbag. • 13. THE STYLE FILEs TWOMAGAZINE 106 TWOMAGAZINE TUNA’S PICKS DARE YOU FLARE? Your trousers, I mean. I agree it’s quite the “marmite” situation, but isn’t that the case with most seventies comeback trends? Patchwork, velvet, shag rugs, chest hair; one man’s rapey moustache is another’s Mum- ford & Sons, yada yada. What’s more, fashion in the seventies was a largely ageist affair, cham- pioning doe-eyed youngins with their straw-fine hair, self-raising bosoms, and wriggly waistlines that didn’t seem to expand, “no matter how many special brownies I put away”. Indeed, most of us will find that that ship has long sailed, and most women today can only get away with wearing crocheted tube tops up to a certain age—around the same time they begin to regret their belly button pierc- ings and Tweety Bird tattoos— before it starts to gets just plain uncomfortable for everyone (particularly their children). Thankfully, there’s a less polarizing, less agonizing, less mid/quarter-life-crisis-feeding way to stay in style. Are you ready for this? Accessories. No, it’s not the easy-out, "fat girl" solution; it’s simply the solu- tion, oh dear reader. For you see, bell-bottoms and boob tubes aside, the key to nailing seventies sex appeal lies in the accessories. For every suede trapeze skirt, there is a woven leather belt; atop every center- part, a felted floppy hat; in front of every dilated pupil, a pair of colorfully tinted lens, and so on. But look, it’s not, like, a fancy dress party, ok? Keep it fresh with my selection of trippy frills that are bound to thrill. This here beachy braid, created by celebrity hairdresser and Tresemmé ambassador, Som- jate “James” Klomnoi: 1. Prior to blow-drying, use a sea salt spray or dry shampoo on dry hair to add extra volume. 2. Divide your hair into two equal sections, parting down the middle. Braid each sec- tion separately using a fishtail braid, keeping in mind to cross the sections underneath each other rather than over, creating an inside-out braid. Start from your temple and braid right to the ends. 3. Once both sections have been braided, tie the two braids into a knot, tucking the ends of the braids under your nape. Those with longer hair may want to tie your two braids into a knot and then a bow before hiding the ends. 4. Secure the braids with bobby pins. BRAND FOCUS groomingOn The Town If your inner-James Dean is waiting to be released from the cage, roll them ciggies in your sleeve and book a spot at Black Amber, where they specialize in slick, classic cuts and stylized ‘staches. These guys are in demand so you have to call for a spot. That said, if you don’t heed our advice, you’ll find yourself sitting on a plush Victorian sofa, flipping through a German Penthouse mag, getting your shoes shined, and drinking some straight-up bourbon for an hour. After leaving with a fresh pompadour that ‘Tii’ Suchararin Proajongbua or ‘Nui’ Pong- pitaya Charoensap styled for you, you’ll be feeling dapper and perhaps a bit tipsy. But this type of ‘do could do you in if its not well kempt; that’s why Tii and Nui don’t leave home without wide-tooth combs in their back pockets and a full supply of pomade on hand to maintain that wet look. Despite their current in-demand status, the two started at the bottom and worked their way up. Nui started off at his mom’s salon, cutting hair for his friends. Then, he became a street barber for a few years at JJ Green before finding himself in this tasteful den. Sweeny Todd inspired Tii to focus his craft on facial hair; he now gets his kicks from grooming wild, unkempt beards and has a foolproof sys- tem for how you should choose your cut. “It all depends on the shape of your face,” Tii said. “If you have fat cheeks, go for a full beard or styles with side burns like the Winfield, Franz Josef, or the Chin Curtain.” If you have a skinny face, he suggests you go for the handlebars. If you’re the unfortunate type that can’t grow a full-on beard, there are no products to make it thicker but Tii says to just go for it: all it will cost you is one unfortunate grooming month and, in the end, it might look good anyway. Go for it. ♦ Black Amber is open Monday to Friday from noon to 9pm. It’s in an alleyway between Thonglor sois 5-7. Look for the Boss Karaoke sign and walk in. It’s right beside J. Boroski.
