Project Work
Power System Protection

Project Objective
The objective of this project is to familiarize the students on the theory of protection
devices and protection design from the device application standpoint.


Project Outcomes
After completing the project, the students should be able to:
(i) Explain the theory of protection system.
(ii) Understand different types of protection schemes in practical environment.
(iii) Present the understanding both in writing and oral formats.

Note: Students will be assessed in accordance with the Programme Learning Outcome
(PLO 9), i.e. committed to communication skills (writing technical report and
presentation). Refer t o t h e g i v e n Assessment Rubric Matrix.



General Requirements
(i)    Write a technical report to present your project outcomes. The writing format
       can be referred to the UPNM thesis writing guide.
(ii)   Submit the technical report and the presentation video clip (CD) latest by 3 1
       May 2013, before 5pm.

Plagiarism:
(i) It is not allowed to utilise any parameter value that has been used by other
      student.
(ii) It is not allowed to copy any drawing (even parts) developed by other student.
(iii) It is not allowed to copy any part of the technical article prepared by other
      student.
(iv) However, it is encouraged to have discussion on the tasks given with other
      student.

Technical Report:
All findings and results are to be presented in a written technical report (single
column, 1.5 spacing, Arial with the font size of 12) of approximately 8 – 10 pages
(appendix is not counted). It must be written in English only. The content of the
technical report should at least consist of the following details:
(i) Introduction – describes the building purpose and its electrical loadings.
(ii) Discussion and analysis – demonstrate the p r o t e c t i o n s y s t e m s
      applied in p o w e r s y s t e m in which might include formulas, circuit, drawing
      etc.
(iii) Conclusion
(iv) Appendix showing all presented technical drawing(s) and schematic
      diagram(s).


Tasks:
(a)   Form your own task group for 5 persons. State clearly the section for each
      member.
(b)   Each group has to seek as much information as they can get about the
      protection that they have chosen. All the explanation should be included in the
      group’s report and presentation
(c)   Submit your report (must be in ring binding) before the mentioned due date
      and presentation will be on week 13.
