Facebook begins supporting app-to-app linking in iOS and Android.
Because this requires users to use their Facebook login, it’s the first
heavy use case of deep linking.
7. APRIL 2013
Twitter launches mobile app deep
linking in Cards, letting users jump
directly into an app from the social
network.
8. MAY 2013
Cellogic releases Deeplink (that’s us!), a platform
that facilitates linking to specific screens within
apps.
9. OCTOBER 2013
URX releases a mobile ad retargeting service
using deep links to bring users to product
pages.
AUGUST 2013
Deeplink launches a retargeting network that
uses personalized ads to bring users back to
apps they already have installed.
10. OCTOBER 2013
Along with the release of Android
KitKat, Google introduces app
indexing with the goal of displaying
relevant apps in search results.
11. DECEMBER 2013
Pinterest updates its app for iOS with a Pin It
button SDK. It allows users to create Pinterest
content within enabled apps.
JANUARY 2013
Yahoo acquires mobile marketing
startup Sparq for its deep linking talent.

URX launches Omnilinks, a
deep linking standard to
compete with those of
companies such as Google,
Facebook and Twitter.
14. MAY 2014
VC Fred Wilson coins the term “app constellation” to
describe the phenomenon of companies Facebook and
Foursquare unbundling their services into separate apps.
Google expands app content in search,
enabling apps such as ABC News,
Shazam and The Guardian to show up
alongside web links in search results.

Relcy announces plans to release mobile
search, joining the ranks of Quixey and several
other search products competing with Google.
Other companies, including Button, AppsFlyer, Branch
Metrics and Pure Oxygen Labs, enter the fray with their
own deep linking solutions.
16. OCTOBER 2014
Deeplink announces its Marketplace + API in beta to serve content and
deep links to various apps on a user’s phone. To demo how the API can
work, the company also releases DeepSearch on iOS, the only app able to
search for content across the apps on your mobile device.
