1. How did you use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. New Media Technologies:
In terms of all the aspects of this project, new media technologies
have been used consistently throughout. Not only have these
technologies helped create and construct our final music video, but
they have also helped in terms of researching already established
artists similarly to ours, planning (in terms of creating filming
schedules etc) and the final evaluation (through YouTube videos, audio
reports and computer programmes such as Microsoft Word and
Microsoft PowerPoint.
I would argue that the most relevant form of media technology I have
used in terms of research is the internet. Not only has this given me
access to websites such as www.blogger.com but has also helped me
to find relevant research, through online search engines such as
Google and Yahoo.
3. Research
Within the research stage of the project alone, many new technologies
were used. Firstly, this involved Blogger.com (commonly known as
BlogSpot.
This website allowed me to create a blog which all my research is
placed on. Through this, I was able to post text and images straight on
to an interactive website.
I was also able to follow other blogs, specifically those within my group
which allowed us to compare research and add additional information
to our own.
Without the creation of this blog, I would be
unable to present all my work in one place and the
research task would have taken a lot longer due
to not having a proper format to publish the
information on.

5. Research
During the research process, I also used many internet search engines
such as Google and Yahoo.
These search engines allowed me to investigate 5 existing girl
groups, recognise the main differences and similarities between
different music video genres and investigate key media principles such
as Goodwin’s Theory.
Moreover, the search engines also helped with deciding the track we
would use to create to video for. Originally, we came across the
website www.unsigned.com. This website allowed us to gain access to
many up and coming artists who we could use for our video.
Unfortunately, in the end, we did not choose a song from an artist on
this site due to the members of band no longer being together and
therefore not having access to the track we wanted. However, this
lead us to using another media technology , YouTube, in which we
began to search for another track to use.
6. Research
YouTube has been extremely useful, not only in terms of the research
conducted but also with evaluation tasks, construction and planning.
In terms of the research tasks, YouTube allowed me to gain access to
music videos that are already published through established artists
(such as Destiny’s Child and En Vogue).
By having easy access to these videos, I was able to analyse them
whenever I wanted and think of ways in which I could link aspects of
them, to our final product.
We also came across our final song by Ruff Diamondz titled ‘Alrite Still’
through the use of YouTube.
This then led us to use email sites such as www.hotmail.com to
contact the artist’s production/management company and ask for
permission to use the track.

8. Planning
In terms of new media technologies used in the planning stage, social
networking sites were used such as; Facebook and MySpace along
with digital technologies such as cameras (in order to take location
shots) and computer programmes such as Word and PowerPoint.
Without these technologies, we would have been unable to contact
people we needed to in order to create our final music video, create
filming and planning timetables and get pictures of the girls we
decided to use as our actors.
9. Planning
In terms of where our planning first began, we had to use social
networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook which allowed us to
get in contact with the artists of the song we were using, or contact
their production team.
This is where we began to use MySpace in order to send messages and
emails.
Not only was the social networking site good for communication, but it
also allowed us to listen to music from the artists and finalise the track
that we had decided on.
10. Planning
Furthermore, in terms of contacting the artists, MySpace had
reference to their emails and links which actually sent us to members
of the bands current websites.
11. Planning
In terms of using PowerPoint in the planning stage, I was able to place
all of the planning research, for example of additional groups and
finding typical genre characteristics, on to this format. This meant that
all of my work was in one place, and looked a lot easier to read and
was presented in an appealing way.
Secondly, PowerPoint was used for one of our advertisement
campaigns. This advertisement was stating the time and date for
auditions that we were holding in order to find actors that could play
the roles of the main girls within the band. We posted this PowerPoint
on TV screens based around our school so that students were able to
see that we were holding auditions.
Similarly, within this advertisement process, we also created a word
document that we posted within every Sixth Form registration groups
register. This enabled us to get as many people as possible auditioning
to be a part of our music video.

13. Planning
The use of Microsoft Word was also extremely important within the
planning process. This was because it enabled us to create precise
timetables for events such as planning and filming schedules.
Without this technology, we would have been unable to easily publish
timings and deadlines on websites such as slide share for every
member of the group to see.
We chose to use Microsoft word to do this as it has specific tools
allowing tables to be created in a format which is clear and easy to
read.
By using both Word and PowerPoint, we had to use SlideShare
(another media technology) which allowed us to upload these
presentations and then provide us with an embed code allowing us to
transfer the work straight onto our blogs.
15. Planning
The use of Facebook allowed us to get a variety of photos of the girls
that we were using as our actors. From these photos, we were able to
create a biography of all of them individually which then could be
added directly to our blogs and later transferred to our digital.
We also got photos for other purposes such as location shots by using
digital cameras and mobile phones.
This enabled us to choose from a variety of locations as the pictures
we took were later uploaded to our blogs and further helped us to
decide which ones we believed would be most effective for our final
filming locations.
Without the use of these cameras, we would have been unable to
choose from a variety of locations, making our final production less
believable than what it is today as a final product.
17. Evaluation
Within the evaluation process, we used many different
technologies, some of which have been used throughout the other
processes.
The main technologies used were video cameras and YouTube. In
terms of YouTube, we used this in different forms.
The first way was in relation to automatically filming ourselves and
others (our target audience). This allowed us to then receive an
embed code, which we could copy and paste onto our blogs. The
embed code meant that the YouTube video would automatically be
displayed on our blog page, allowing others to watch the audience
responses. This therefore relates to using a camera, in order of filming
ourselves to put on to our YouTube channel.
The second way in which I used YouTube was to create an audio
response. This meant that within the evaluation questions, I applied
many different technologies to answering specific questions and gave
a variety of multi-media responses.
18. Evaluation
Furthermore, another media technology that I used throughout the
evaluation stage was Prezi.
Prezi is a new modern technology, similar to PowerPoint in which I was
able to construct a presentation and then upload this on to blogger.
Similar to that of PowerPoint and Microsoft word, I then had to upload
this presentation on to Slide Share, so I could openly display the Prezi
with any individual looking at my blog.
