3. Lesson Origin: Philippians 4:6-13
• 6Be careful for nothing [NIV: Do not be anxious about anything]; but in
every thing by prayer and supplication [petition] with thanksgiving let
your requests be made known unto God.
• 7And the peace of God, which passeth [transcends] all understanding,
shall keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
• 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if
there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
• 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and
seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
You must realize that FEAR IS NOT REAL!
4. Lesson Origin: I can do all things…
• 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in
whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
• 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every
where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be
hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
• 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
You must realize that FEAR IS NOT REAL!
5. Paul’s Declarations

“Our thoughts are like seeds and they
create after their kind”

6. Paul’s Declarations cont.
• 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and
heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
13 I can do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me.
You must realize that FEAR IS NOT REAL!
7. A Sound Mind – Beyond Belief
Requests to
God
Peace of God/
The God Of
Peace
Positive
Thoughts
What
You’ve
Learned
Now faith is the substance
of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not
seen.
Hebrews 11:1
8. A Sound Mind – Beyond Belief cont.
Request to
man or to self
No Peace
Negative
Thoughts
What I
don’t know
For God hath not given us
the spirit of fear; but of
power, and of love, and of
a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
Stemmed from favorite scripture - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Phillipians 4:13
[Click to bring up scripture]
-Always thought this meant I can do whatever I want to do – and would apply it to my difficult tasks.
-Really means, I can endure whatever state I am in.
Previous verses talks about placing worries/petitions before the lord
11 and 12 talk about him learning and knowing what its like to be content through all situations based on experience.
This misunderstanding/miss-placed context made me question if this was the only scripture or evidence I have in placing my faith above all other feelings.
First thought was to re-read the scripture.
Several of Paul’s instructions/statements that stood out:
Let your requests be known to God. – WITH THANKSGIVING – creating a mindset of joy, peace, gratitude
“Peace of God” transcends all understanding shall keep your hearts/minds –
God’s peace is beyond belief
Your heart and will be embedded in Christ – Where there is light, darkness cannot dwell, and so again, changing your state of being
“Think on the [good] things”
Interesting idea pointed out by Terry Law [Click]
"Our thoughts are like seeds and they create after their kind" THE POWER IF PRAISE AND WORSHIP PG 50-51
If you think negative thoughts, they will reproduce negative thoughts, and thoughts generally become actions
For as he thinkenth in his heart, so is He - psalm 23:7
The opposite is true: If I believe I can do all things through Christ, believe I can endure, thoughts will multiply, I will endure.
Things that you’ve learned and have seen done, you do.
Interesting switch of words: “God of Peace shall be with you”
God’s peace will be with you when following the instructions
Then of course: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Now, that connects all of these
What do they have in common
What do they all require
[4 Clicks to Faith and scripture]
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
None of these instructions make sense without faith.
I always like to look at the opposite, see the other side of the argument
Read the opposites
[One click to Fear and Scripture]
What does this tell us.
Fear is the demonic version of Faith. It’s the opposite.
***Note. There are two types of fear:
The fear of the Lord as described in Proverbs 19:23 – which brings life, rest, peace, and contentment.
Proverbs 14:27 calls the fear of the Lord the fountain of life and provides security
Psalm 111:10 says it brings with it many blessings and benefits, and is the beginning of wisdom
CLEARLY not what we have in the fear described above
The one of above comes from the greek word “Phobos [foh-buh s]” – means withdrawl or fleeing because of feeling inadequate
What Paul calls the spirit of fear
A Spirit is something that isn’t tangible
Something that doesn’t necessarily exist in the earthly realm
Faith is a substance
Has a solid presence
Is REAL
The evidence of unseen, hoped for things
Will said “Fear is a product of things you create……..is a choice”
It is something we create that is based on assumptions, based on illusions of the mind, negative thoughts
Faith is evidence of hopes that actually exist, the thoughts of God, the very real word that he gave to us.
Leads back to the quote by Will Smith.
[Click to add “faith” in place of “danger”.]
Fear is caused by imagination.
1 Corinthians 10:5 - Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
There is nothing wrong with making the statement that you can do anything through Christ that gives you strength, as long as you realize that saying it is one thing, but actually believing it and replacing fears you may have with faith that makes it real.
