Android 5.0 Lollipop is coming up with a the new Material Design, that defines a new language for designing interfaces, giving thickness at UI elements, as if they were concrete blocks that could be manipulated. But this is not the only new feature of 5.0: sensors management also had a deep review that gives developer more control and opens the way to new paradigms of human-machine interface. Material design and mobile sensors could be combined to provide an innovative and yet better User Experience. During the talk, will be presented Android sensor types and management, both for app developers and AOSP developers, along with a brief overview of Material Design. Then will be discussed how to extend the possibilities of Material Design using mobile sensors, with an eye on battery consumption.
