3. In the beginning . . .
 After the completion of the Transcontinental
Railroad, the Chinese migrated to the Midwest.
 The “Anti-Chinese” attitude pushed the Chinese
away from the West Coast.
 By 1890, Chicago was home to roughly 550 Chinese
because of their acceptance.
 They established shops, restaurants, laundromats,
and homes around Van Buren and Clark Street.

4. More History
 Prejudice and discrimination arose in Chicago.
 Chinatown was pushed further South from Van
Buren and Clark to Cermak and Wentworth.
 H.O. Stone Company aided this establishment.
 The Chinese community put on projects like road
extensions and participation in the Worlds Fair in
1933.
 Chinatown has continued to grow and expand.
