What CIOs and Network Administrators Need to Prepare For
Here at Net Optics, we've been seeing a new vision for IT and the Network solidify in businesses. The changing role of Network Admins has gone from providing basic access and security for in-office employees to delivering and supporting revenue enhancing tools and services for every employee, regardless of device, location or application.
This trend was echoed by Mark McDonald, group vice president for Gartner Executive Programs and Gartner Fellow who suggests "Effective leaders use technology, which includes IT, to strengthen the customer experience and eliminate costly internal distortions. They are using technology to 'amplify' the enterprise." (http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1897514)
Amplified Business Equals Amplified Challenges
At Net Optics we’re acutely aware of the impact this new emphasis on technology will have on the Network and Network Administrators. Conflicting demands from users, new devices, new applications, and security & compliance regulations are increasing the pressure to adapt and maintain the Network while meeting stringent SLAs.
Net Optics envisions a seamless, end-to-end Access and Monitoring Architecture that delivers total visibility and transcends the physical/virtual concept to enable robust and responsive security, performance, low latency and manageability. This new architecture focuses on applications and access capabilities from corporate headquarters and across the distributed organization. Flexibility and responsiveness to change must be built into the fabric of the access infrastructure.

To support this outlook, we can see from this CIO Magazine poll regarding Business and Technology priorities for 2012 that 5 of the top 10 priorities for technology leaders is to provide new tools and services to the organization. The priorities these profesionals identified include: adding Mobile Technologies, utilizing Software as a Service applications, providing Collaboration Systems, and implementing CRM and ERP applications. But there’s a hidden GOTCHA to implementing these services, Each of these new services or tools will impact the availability and uptime of your network. All of them will create new challenges that Network Adminsneed to prepare for as they beigto deploy these new tools and services.
To meet the needs of implementing a Pro-active network management strategy, Net Optics has introduced two products that together, provide end-to-end visibility for application and network performance monitoring for SMB/SME customers.Spyke is the higher perofrmance device designed for the data-center environment. Spyke is appropriate for the small to medium sized enterprise.Additionalyl Net Optics has also introduced appTap, which can be considered the little brother of Spyke. AppTap is intended to be deployed at remote branch sites and offices to provide the visibility for remote network troubleshooting and management at these locations where typically the capabilities of the on-site IT staff may be limited. With appTap installed, network admins can log in to the apptap remotely and access network performance data to help resolve any issues.
