repentance and forgiveness of sins will be
preached in his name to all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem…

… You are witnesses of these things. I am
going to send you what my Father has
promised; but stay in the city until you have
been clothed with power from on high.”

The Holy Spirit in the book of Acts
Acts 1:4-5
On one occasion, while he [Jesus] was
eating with them, he gave them this
command: …

…“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift
my Father promised, which you have heard me
speak about. For John baptized with water, but in
a few days you will be baptized with the Holy
Spirit.”

Acts 1:8
“…you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:1-4
‘When the day of Pentecost came, they were all
together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the
blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and
filled the whole house where they were sitting…

Lord - Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as

may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” …

got up and was baptized, and after taking

in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve

Baptism in the Spirit
and Speaking in Tongues.

Speaking in tongues is sometimes
called “glossolalia”, transliterated
from the Greek words glossa and
laleo for “tongues” and “speak”.

Joel 2:28
‘And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on
all people. Your sons and daughters will
prophesy, your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions. Even on my
servants, both men and women, I will pour
out my Spirit in those days.’

Acts 1:8
“…you will receive power when the Holy

SPECIFIC GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT
1 Corinthians 12:8-11
‘To one there is given through the Spirit the
message of wisdom, to another the message
of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to
another faith by the same Spirit,…

… to another gifts of healing by that one
Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to
another prophecy, to another distinguishing
between spirits, …

…to another speaking in different kinds of
tongues, and to still another the
interpretation of tongues. All these are the
work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives
them to each one, just as he determines.’

Gifts of revelation - the word of wisdom,
the word of knowledge, and discerning of
spirits.

Gifts of power - faith, gifts of healing(s),
and the working of miracles.

Gifts of utterance - prophecy, speaking in
different kinds of tongues, and the
interpretation of tongues.

How to receive the Baptism in the Holy
Spirit.
1. Deeply desire to be filled with the Holy
Spirit.
2. Go to a place where you will be
undisturbed and can concentrate on the
Lord.

Spirit.
3. Get into a comfortable position.
4. Focus on the Lord.
5. Ask the Lord to baptise you with the Holy
Spirit.

Spirit.
6. Praise God out loud and proclaim his
faithfulness (as in Ps 89).
7. Continue to praise and thank God out loud
for what He is going to do.

Spirit.
8. Trust God to fill you with the Spirit and to
fill your mouth with His words of praise.
9. Expect new words to come from your lips.

Spirit.
10. Receive by faith.
11. Don’t rely on your feelings.
