TYPES OF ACCOMODATION
A Hotel is a building where people
stay for a short duration and pay for all
the services provided to them. The
amenities of Hotel ranges from simple
mattress facility to meals, swimming
pools, gym and various other
recreational activities. Depending on
the services, amenities, themes etc
hotels are categorized.
Just like Hotels, Resort s also provide
accommodation facilities and other
amenities. However the only differences
between the two is - Size and Location.
Resorts are usually situated outside the
main city and also offers either
lawns/pools/ or any other recreational
area as a main amenity. Resorts are
mostly preferred by those who look for
quietness , peace and nature.
Inns - Another small establishment used by long distance travelers are Inns. They offer
overnight accommodation, food and hard-drinks to travelers. These inns may /may not
have parking facility unlike motels but are better in terms of meals & drinks than old
motels.
Motels are roadside buildings used by long distance travelers. This type of
accommodation specializes in easy parking facilities where the travelers can easily
park/access their vehicle just outside their room. Generally these motels used to offer
low quality accommodation, However with time now more modern and luxurious motels
are designed along the highways, rural roads etc.
Motel Inns
The type of accommodation made up of logs and stones are called Lodges. Originally
they were set up in the midst of forest or over hilltops. Due to their location they were
surrounded with trees, fountains, rocks etc. However with time lodges started
establishing in main city areas with lawns, log work, rocks set ups within its façade.
Villas :The concept of
villas started with Romans
who used them as private
luxury homes. Now these
home-like structures are
used for personal as well
commercial use both. The
size of villas varies from an
individual building of 2-3
bedroom to whole colony.
Generally in small villas ,
guests enjoy all the
amenities exclusively to
themselves while in larger
ones, amenities are on
sharing basis.
A cottage is small building with 2-4 well
furnished rooms . They are very much like
homes having rooms, living and dinning
area , kitchen for personal cooking, parking
etc . They are most preferred by joint
families who wish to stay, cook and enjoy
together . As for the structure, cottages are
constructed with stones and wood and have
sloping roofs.
Homestay is a 4-10 room building where
the travelers accommodate in guest rooms
of the owner itself . Herein the owner of
the homestay along with some helpers
manage the guests services. They are in-
expensive accommodation and are best
preferred by either the economic travelers
or those who wish to study about the local
culture of a place .
