Species A Game of Bio Tech
4 Alien Species fighting for control of the planet.
Species must gather resources to develop as a
species and wipe out the other species while
multiplying and taking control of the planet.
Each species has a different set of characteristics
and abilities which will give them specific
advantages during the game when attacking,
defending, or moving and when converting their
resources. These qualities are defined on the
Species card.
Initial Setup
Each player is dealt a species card to select the
species they will play as. It is possible for
multiple players to have the same species.
The board is a hexagonal grid covering the
planet. It has resource slots to represent the
resource gained by occupying that slot.
The deck of resource cards is shuffled and
placed out in order on the board. There are 3
resources – Food, Metal and Technology.
Species Members
Players start with 3 members of their species.
These are placed in the 3 slots beside the
players home base.
Players move to occupy resource slots to acquire
resources.
Players convert resources into new members of
their species and bonus abilities.
Playing
Players take turns to play. Order determined by rolling dice.
At the beginning of a players turn the player acquires resources for
all of their species members occupying resource slots. Ie 1 or
more player pieces on a Food resource slot acquires one Food
resource token.
Players then either a) convert resources into species members and
bonuses, or b) move species members, or c) attack another
player.
Each player controls their species members by
Converting resources to generate new species members
Moving species members to acquire resources
Attacking another species in an adjacent square
Defending against attacks from an adjacent square
Converting Resources
Players can convert resources into new species members and
bonus cards. A player can have at most 7 bonus cards – the
costs of each bonus is written on their species card. Players
convert resources into
New species members – a new species member piece
Attack bonus – adds 1 to each dice roll per species member
when attacking
Defense bonus – adds 1 to each dice roll per species member
when defending
Mobility bonus – allow species members to move an extra step
when moving
Evolution bonus – specific to each evolution card can be a
combination of attack, defense and mobility combined with
increased rate of new species member generation.

Movement
Each player can move 3 species member pieces each time it is
their turn.
Each species member normally moves to any adjoining slot not
occupied by another player.
When a player has mobility bonus cards each species member can
move 1 extra slot per mobility card.
Players can only move through slots unoccupied by other players.
When a player trades resources for new species members these
members are placed in any of the 3 home slots.
Players can have at most 3 species members per slot.
Attack / Defense
A player can attack another player in an adjacent slot. The
outcome is determined by dice. The loser loses all their species
members from the attack or defense slots.
The total attack and defense values are determined by adding dice
rolls per species member combined with attack and defense
bonus cards. Draws are rerolled untill a winner occurs.
The player attacking has 1 dice roll per species member in the
attacking slot.
If a player has an attack bonus card they have +1 added per card
per species member on the slot.
For the player defending they have 1 dice roll per species member
on the attacked slot.
If a player has a defense bonus card they have +1 added per card
per species member on the slot.
