This presentation was researched and developed to introduce potential newcomer clients and service providers with the New JSW curriculum released in May 201 . My goal was to inform the audience of the criteria and benefits of the JSW modules.

WHAT IS THE JSW PROGRAM?
The JSW program is a needs assessment and job search
techniques training program; geared towards newcomers and
internationally-trained professionals
The JSW program helping better understand their strategic next steps
in their own unique job search process, within the Canadian context.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE JSW PROGRAM?
To assist newcomers with the knowledge and skills to better understand
the strategies, business perspective and next steps of their job search
process.
To better equip individuals with limited to no Canadian workplace
experience, with becoming knowledgeable with techniques to find, obtain
and maintain employment.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS!!
There are three mandatory components of the new JSW program.
1. Assessment 2. Information & 3. Follow-Up
Referral
(Action Plan)
But ONLY suitable clients participate in:
- JSW Module I
- JSW Module II
All eligible clients participate in the mandatory components of the new JSW.

CLIENT SUITABLITY
1. Benchmark level 5 in English (CLBA);
2. Has an occupation goal but needs planning and understanding in a Canadian
context;
3. Needs understanding of Canadian companies/business/culture;
4. Needs to develop a networking list and strategies to connect with others;
5. Has basic computer skills (Word/Internet)
6. Can commit to the entire JSW schedule and has the time and support needed to
practice their learning off-site

THE ASSESSMENT
At the end of this assessment, clients will be able to:
Understand the barriers preventing them from attending a job search program or
Understand what specific job search skills/knowledge they need for an effective
job search
Determine their next steps with an action plan
AFTER THE ASSESSMENT:
** Every client receives an action plan (whether they join JSW Module I or II)
** Every client receives follow-up (whether they join JSW Module I or II)
9. ON TARGET
JSW MODULE I: OCCUPATIONAL BLUEPRINT (16 hours)
At the end of this workshop, clients will be able to:
Understand the Canadian company perspective of employment (what they want).
Find and list the skills, education, salary, and requirements of a Canadian
occupation (by job title).
List and describe their own work history, within a Canadian context.
List and describe their skills and accomplishments.
Match and analyze their professional skills to a minimum of one Canadian occupation.
Create a list of networking contacts.
THEN …plan the next step(s) in their own job search process
11. ON TARGET
JSW MODULE II: JOB SEARCH (14 hours)
At the end of this workshop, clients will be able to:
Understand the Canadian company perspective of recruiting, hiring, resume selection
and interviewing.
Learn strategies to “ old” call a company.

Locate advertised job postings from a variety of sources.
Write a “targeted” resume/cover letter that communicates their skills/experience.
Apply for a job using a targeted resume/cover letter.
Understand interviewing techniques and practice answers to common interview questions.
THEN …plan the next step(s) in their own job search process
12. ON TARGET
JSW PROGRAM PROMOTES THE JOB SEARCH PROCESS BY:
Building confidence and self-efficacy in their job search.
Strategically planning the next steps in their own unique job search
journey.
Making their own informed choices/next steps through self - nalysis &
a
empowerment.
Each module encourages clients to connect with
professionals in their own field/expertise who can assist
with the specifics about their job search, resume
strategies, job leads, etc.
