3. General Open Access Policy
• Focus on journal funding
• 12 month embargo
• Rights to be retained by authors
• Recommendation to all grantees to (also) make research
results available in Open Access since 2006

4. Project-related publication expenses
• Cover the cost of publishing research results from DFG
funded projects
• 750 EUR per year
• Up to 5000 EUR for „book format with high production
costs“
• „Publication in any form“ (except grey literature)
 Also possible to fund OA-publications

5. Publication grants
• For print or electronic/digital publications

proposal, but granted after project end)

6. Open Access Publication Funds
• Programme providing 75% of an
institutional publication fund
• Currently 25 universities receive funds
• Four rounds of application since 2010
• No hybrid/open choice journals
• Cap at 2000 EUR for APC
 Not possible for institutions to cover fees
for open access „books“
