are medium and small size companies (they generate 68.1% of total
employment and contribute 54% of value added to the Polish economy)
Polish SMEs operate mainly in services and trade (75.8%),
construction (13.5%) and processing industry (10.7%)
Compared to the EU average the SME’s sector in Poland is more
dominated by microcompanies (96%)
The youngest companies (i.e. established in 2010) represent 12.6%
of all business entities while almost 62.2% run business for over 5
years
In 2003-2011 the number of newly established firms was higher
than the number of closed ones
