- A year of some big changes, some very visible, some hidden but important
- End of 5 year contracts, time to re-evaluate Extra money from LSTA last two years bought subscriptions to Ancestry and Mango for Libraries Connect Ohio No extra LSTA after FY2013. So what gets cut? - Were able to add some stuff, mostly because of attractive “bundle” pricing ALSO – geolocation authentication
- Project started in 2006 We already have solutions for all but 2 of the remaining T1s, one DS3 already gone Wireless is the new thing SOMACS for existing circuits extended to 30 June 2015
- New 10 GB network card for MX480 Not noticed, but more stable and verifiable than old solution (4 x 1 GB) $52,000 Also turns out to be handy for new statewide networking stuff...
- Only Network Services affects us
- Things we just keep right on doing...
- Support Center personnel opened 1,424 tickets (compared to 2,183 last year) OPLIN employed new Copyright Infringement Alert System for notifications Spam abuse complaints were only 14%
- Last year was 78 libraries, 265,000 messages
- Still keeping Zimbra collaboration suite up to date Zimbra bought by VMware, but pledged to keep supporting open product
- Since April 2008 Only service we charge for public libraries using the Web Kit service is 64 with 18 completed in FY 2013 As diverse as the libraries
- Required by law to assist libraries, though no longer earmark in budget No grants this year, just OpenDNS Have never found a suitable central solution, have given grants to 40-50 libraries each year Meets our needs, doesn't slow the network, very flexible Have been able to adapt it to existing procedures in libraries
- Reminder Small services, but can have big value E-rate 470 workshop Tues Nov 5
- Public Library Fund (PLF) in FY 201 was the sam received in FY 2012 and will be the same amount transferred in FY 2014 and 2015. less than 10% of the OPLIN budget is used for administrative costs
- Over 12,000 links collected since early OPLIN days (was Discover Ohio) Categories range from Agriculture to Government to Travel
- Not new (thank goodness)
