How To Be A Star Performer At Work
Being a high performer at work has its fair share of advantages. Everyone wants to work with and
look up to the star. You will be considered a valuable asset to the company and your team, and the
most appealing of all- you’ll have a sense of job security. If you feel you aren’t there yet, you can
elevate your performance level right away by bringing in small changes in your daily performance,
and before you know it, you’re rising up above the sky so high!
1. Know Your Job Well
Make sure that you are well acquainted with the nitty-gritty details of your job and company
profile. Staying up-to-date with the industry trends will be a great add-on. Deepen your knowledge
about the business by getting to know more about the company policies, stakes, competitors, and
operations.
2. Get Proactive
Being a high performer is all about going beyond your job description. Take initiatives in doing
whatever it takes to get the job done. Sometimes this could mean working overtime if need be or
skipping lunch with your peers sometimes to go that extra mile.
3. Play To Your Strengths
Focus and develop your strengths to bring out the best in your work. Knowing the strengths of your
coworkers also helps in upgrading the quality of your company’s product and services. Your unique
skills will not only set you apart from your peers, but will also make you an indispensible part of the
team and the company.
4. Mind The Clock
This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of being a high performer. Nothing increases
your value in front of your employers than your ability to nail all the deadlines in a project. When
you ace in time management, you project an image of an employee who’s focused about his work
and values the company.
5. Be Accountable To Your Action
Accepting your mistakes and improving on them will bring you closer towards being a valued
employee of the company. By being accountable for your mistake, you save the company both
money and time, because the unnecessary avoidable tension around the workplace will impact the
overall productivity.
6. Be Open-Minded
One of the major flaws that stops people from being successful is their rigid mentality and the
methods employed. Go beyond your inhibitions and comfort level, and accept innovative ideas and
concepts to bring your company to the forefront. By being open to new challenges, you end up
building new skills and setting a niche for yourself.
7. Know Your Goal
Unlike a workaholic whose goal is to work all the time, a high performer’s goal should be to do
business. Aim to create high impact and longer lasting work to upgrade your company’s stakes in
the markets. Facilitate new ideas and strategize new ways to get the work done faster.
8. Keep Learning
Seek ways to always stay on top of the trends in the field and better your performance at work.
Take initiative to further your knowledge in your field with the help of online courses or certificate
courses offered by some universities. By being open to learning new skills, you open new
possibilities for yourself and your company to succeed.
9. Accept Feedback
Take the feedbacks you get from your seniors and peers as constructive criticism to move beyond
your mistakes. Feedbacks not only help to keep your mistakes in check but also make you aware of
your core strengths and weaknesses. They help you hone your skills and enhance your performance
at work. Participate in training sessions, seminars, and workshops to help you overcome your
shortcomings.
10. Work Collaboratively
Sometimes the key to standing out in a group is by being a responsible member of that group. Be an
active participant in team activities and projects. Be open to new suggestions, ideas, and concepts
from your other team members. Being amiable, supportive, encouraging, and cooperative is a great
way to become a perfect team member.
11. Adapt To Changes
When you are working in a fast-paced and high intensity workplace, challenges are bound to crop
up. Facing your challenges instead of avoiding them and adapting yourself to overcome your
shortcomings are what will help you sustain in any business. Evolving your skills to suit the modern
market needs will help you go a long way.
12. Dress To Impress
Sometimes your personality speaks louder than your work. And one of the ways you can make a
lasting impression among your peers is by dressing the part. Paying attention to what you wear and
how you carry yourself in any situation will help you create a good first impression wherever you
go.
