What is this booth?
“Renting a chair in a salon involves entering into a
tenant/landlord situation. It’s no different that renting
an office in an office building or an apartment in an
apartment building. In this case, the salon owner
leases out workstations and booths to independent
stylists in exchange for a monthly rent.”
Learn the ropes
Booth renting is totally different from working commissions. Endeavor to
learn what it means to be a salon booth renter.
You will be totally in charge and if you don’t learn the inner workings of it,
you would most definitely feel out of your depth. This could jeopardize your
business and you might end up not being able to afford your rent with time.
• When you rent your booth, know the rules of the salon and review them
properly.
• Avoid flouting any rule.Your customers would be able to feel any friction in
the salon and might never return because of this sort of indiscretion
• If you are to spend a good amount of time arguing or going against what
is expected, that is valuable time to a client and it is bad for business.
Getting your own clients
To build a following of loyal customers, you have to think on your feet and
be diverse.
• If you don’t have that to work for you, social media comes to your rescue.
Put yourself out there often.
• Showcase all your skills and post pictures of actual people you have
worked with, not stock images from the internet.
• You can promote your posts to a target demographic and always answer
comments of new users.
With time, you would build a solid list of clients. It’s up to you to convert that
customer into a loyalist.
Know your products
You are your own boss; this means that you choose whatever you deem fit
for your clients.
Different clients require different products, so you have to be sure you have
one for every client.
For the hair clients, there are different hair types ranging from type 1
to type 4. The products for the type 3As would not be effective for type
4Cs.
Also, some ingredients in the different products might be harsh for some
hair types.
Time management
• Be flexible with your schedule. If a client has only the morning hours
available, or after work hours, you may have to accommodate such
requests. Be prepared to ditch some fun plans when building your
business and client list.
• Encourage walk-in hours (in the beginning)
• When a customer books an appointment with you, be prepared for when
they come in.
• If you have a 10-15 minutes grace period for lateness.
• Never double book.
Follow-up
This should be nothing intrusive. It could be a short phone call, a postcard
or a thank you note. Then, ask if they liked your work. If you like, you can
offer some discount on their next visit or when they refer a friend.

  • 4. What is this booth? “Renting a chair in a salon involves entering into a tenant/landlord situation. It’s no different that renting an office in an office building or an apartment in an apartment building. In this case, the salon owner leases out workstations and booths to independent stylists in exchange for a monthly rent.”
  • 5. Learn the ropes Booth renting is totally different from working commissions. Endeavor to learn what it means to be a salon booth renter. You will be totally in charge and if you don’t learn the inner workings of it, you would most definitely feel out of your depth. This could jeopardize your business and you might end up not being able to afford your rent with time. • When you rent your booth, know the rules of the salon and review them properly. • Avoid flouting any rule.Your customers would be able to feel any friction in the salon and might never return because of this sort of indiscretion • If you are to spend a good amount of time arguing or going against what is expected, that is valuable time to a client and it is bad for business.
  • 6. Getting your own clients To build a following of loyal customers, you have to think on your feet and be diverse. • If you don’t have that to work for you, social media comes to your rescue. Put yourself out there often. • Showcase all your skills and post pictures of actual people you have worked with, not stock images from the internet. • You can promote your posts to a target demographic and always answer comments of new users. With time, you would build a solid list of clients. It’s up to you to convert that customer into a loyalist.
  • 7. Know your products You are your own boss; this means that you choose whatever you deem fit for your clients. Different clients require different products, so you have to be sure you have one for every client. For the hair clients, there are different hair types ranging from type 1 to type 4. The products for the type 3As would not be effective for type 4Cs. Also, some ingredients in the different products might be harsh for some hair types.
  • 8. Time management • Be flexible with your schedule. If a client has only the morning hours available, or after work hours, you may have to accommodate such requests. Be prepared to ditch some fun plans when building your business and client list. • Encourage walk-in hours (in the beginning) • When a customer books an appointment with you, be prepared for when they come in. • If you have a 10-15 minutes grace period for lateness. • Never double book.
  • 9. Follow-up This should be nothing intrusive. It could be a short phone call, a postcard or a thank you note. Then, ask if they liked your work. If you like, you can offer some discount on their next visit or when they refer a friend.
