2. Audience
• Primary Target: 15-24 (M/F)(C1C2DE)
• Secondary Target: 12-14, 25-34+ (F/M)(C1C2DE)
• Why?
• Main characters are teens
• Quite informal (as horror is)
• Gory (age rating higher than 12 or PG-13)
• Male gaze (Widens appeal to male audience)
• Intertextuality: Laurie Strode, Jigsaw and "Loomis" (Halloween, Scream,
Psycho, Saw)
3. Why Male/ Female gaze?
• Feminist argument that by objectifying females/ female body parts, it
will attract a large amount of the male viewers as they “gaze” upon
the woman on screen.
• This is countered by the “Female” gaze which is also very much used
in the media industry.
• It attracts more viewers from both genders and is actually a good
thing to have overall.
5. Steps taken to get Audience Feedback
• Showed the cut to a varied audience
• Made a questionnaire for audience to fill out
• Find time and place to show the cut
• Asked different age ranges/ genders
8. Summary of responses
• Some oppositional reading: "Some parts were comedic..."
• Santa on the screen was very effective (Some got the Jigsaw reference,
Intertextuality)
• Acting could be better, verisimilitude not achieved
• Timing was a bit off
• On average people rated it a 6/10 in likability
• Everyone recommended we used eerie suspenseful music in the opening
9. Expected?
• Yes
• We had failed to create a scary sense.
• This created a lot of oppositional reading
• The acting seemed very forced so we can see why it was said.
• The cuts weren’t the smoothest, resulting in timing being off.
• We need to get a song from a previous slasher to create
intertextuality and record it on a piano.
10. Current Cut review
Negatives:
• We dislike the establishing shot and will
change it to a more genre specific one.
• We need to experiment with different titles
• Improve false scare
• Stalking needs to be change and fixed
• Add cross cut with final girl in garage
• We need to shorten some cutes (clothing,
going down to garage)
• Maybe include an ellipsis
Positives:
• Reflect the scream queen idea well
• The man on the TV screen is very well done
• Attempted to cover the stalking convention
• Attempted false scare
11. Blogs
• Strengths:
• A lot of information
• Organized (Labels, links lists)
• Aesthetically pleasing
• Weaknesses:
• Include more key terms
• Inconsistent post formats
