2. 1st challenge
• The challenge is to put together
various marine information available
as INSPIRE* compliant web
services build a web dynamic 3D
view (bathymetry, chlorophyll/chl-a,
and seabed habitats)
• If the team succeeds in developing
the 3D GIS web viewer. The
application could be implemented
on the Marine Analyst server and
could be available on the Marine
Competence Centre to support the
implementation of the Marine
Strategy Framework Directive

3. Use cases
The user clicks on the map to select one location
(latitude/longitude point) on the sea. The web app developed by
the diplohack team will display a dynamic 3D view around that
location (500km)
• On top of the cube, the Chlorophyll (chl-a) is displayed as a 2D raster
image with its appropriate colour-bar
• Within/through the cube, the user sees a 3d image of the bathymetry
(elevation) and can rotate the cube (360°) with help of the mouse
• Optional: underneath the cube, the user will find the Seabed habitat
information for around the selected location

6. 2nd challenge
• The challenge is to visualize a
temporal animation of the ocean
productivity (chl-a) in order to
highlight the bloom period etc. Both
European (EMIS) or worldwide
(GMIS) datasets can be used

8. 3rd challenge (draft)
Merging the two previous challenges:
• The first view is given by the web app
displaying a chl-a image on the globe
(2nd challenge) and then the user click
somewhere to open the 3D view (1st
challenge)
