1 - Introduction
Barloworld is pleased to submit the present Technical Report TRMOG#001/07-2014, which is intended to extend
additional information on the applicability of 2 x different Generators Group stationed at Airliquide Nitrogen Plant
in Kwanda Base – Soyo.
The main purpose of this report is to establish a compare consist trend and point out common and different
technical features or specifications in order to outline merger possibilities as well to provide a directional view
on a cost perspective.
2 - Motivations
After a failure reported on Gen# 1 (C27 – DWB00720) with generator burnt, Airliquide Angola has requested Barloworld
Equipamentos to access a spare Alternator with Arr#9Y0441 and the one with Arr#5N8076 fitted on Gen#3 - 3412 Engine,
and define if the referred Alternators can be fitted on the sic unit.
Note: The present comparison and level of applicability was done taking as base the Arr#5N8076 for Design & Configuration and Arr#9Y0441 for
Application compatibility.

3.1 - Design & Configuration
The rectifiers configuration of the 2 x Generators. The 3412 Generator (fitted) is a self excited type and 10 leads,
compared to the C27 which also self excited and 12 leads configuration and fitted with surge suppressor. The 2
generators will also have the same output voltage and different current rates.
Assessing the 2 units we have notice the Skid frames differences. 3412 skid frame will be shorter and less extended than
C27 which comes with a broader and longer skid frames. Please kindly note the difference on the cover arrangement
between the 2 units.

From the present pictures it is possible to visually assess the generators coupling and assembling mountings. 3412 unit
alternators (SRB 6FAfamily) are normally shorter and will sit directly on skid with longer flat plates and thin rubber Shim
for tensional vibration absorption. C27 unit Alternator will sit on middle crossed bar with higher shims and shorter
assembling plates.
3.1.2 - Overall Skid Configuration
3412 General Skid Configuration will accommodate an engine with dimensions as follows:

4 – Application Compatibility as per TMI
Alternator 9Y0441 (Spare)
Alternator 1366615 (from the C27 unit)
5 - Conclusion
All the above technical features helped us conclude that fitting the Alternator with Arrangement# 9Y0441 or 5N8670 on
the C27 unit skid with its prime mover is not a direct replacement. This action requires complete modification of the
Package Set as it embarks to a more broaden analysis and deep changes on the overall unit configuration and
performance.
The above base alternator is configured with different Frame Numbers has shown, and it will not fit once it has been
factory selected for a 3412 engine as the main prime mover, also it would require redesign the base skid, redesign the
rear housing coupling, which would also affect changes on electrical components, such as AVR type, surge suppressor,
as the current ratings differs between the 2 units. The cost implications of such a task would not justify the investment on
a cost effective perspective.

6 - Recommendations
Barloworld recommends the repair of the burnt Alternator of the C27 Unit (Gen# 1) as per Assessment Report compiled
or acquisition of a brand new one, in order to mitigate the downtime and bring the unit back into operation.
