1. Get your syllabus on time. Find out when you will write exams and the grade the exams u want
to write worth, write them in a jotter so u can remember. Read your notes and textbooks regularly
in order to get fully prepared. Scan through what you have written and jot out important points
that is most interesting to you. Increase your reading speed and time you study a particular course
a day.
2. Give ear to what the teacher teach in class and ask reasonable questions: Doing this will help
you test your understanding on the topic your teacher teaches you. Listening to your teacher
enables you to get the main points that may likely come in exams, thereby enabling you to know
the areas the teacher may likely set in the exams. Paying attention enables you to grab the
important topics that the teacher emphasizes most which deepening your understanding of the
topic and gives you keys to tackle exams and tests questions.
3. Making your notes. This is another way to learn faster as to enables you remember what you were
being thought in the class. Writing down all the important points and making reference to your textbooks
will improve your learning skills and help you to focus with your studies. Read and take notes of the major
points being discussed in the class as to reinforce what all what you learned in the class to your vocabulary.
4. Check and study the previous exams questions to enable you know the most likely questions that
repeats. Also find out from the teacher the area of centration as to prepare ahead for the exams.
Know the courses that have greater credit loads so as to exercise extra time on those courses.
5. Reading in a conducive environment will enhance your reading speed and help you recall what you have
read easily. Avoiding any form of distractions and anything that will make you distracted like answering
of phone calls and sending messages is what to put into consideration, this will enhance effective reading.
Well ventilated room is highly recommended for effective studying.
6. Making sure the room you are Studying is well lightening as to enable you to see what you are Studying.
Studying in a dark room is not recommended. Room that is properly lightening reduces noise and makes
you to be awake through out the hour you sets to study.
7. Avoiding watching movies and playing games, thus, is another form of distractions that will make you
not to concentrate with your studies. Avoid multitasking work while you are studying as to enables you
concentrate with your studies. Study only with friends that are serious and focus with studies. Do not play
music or listening to songs while studying to enables you get what you are studying.
8. Make your studies suitable to your body demand, avoid studying when you are getting tired. Sleep and
wake up on time to study. Don’t force yourself to study when it is the time to sleep. Wake up at the right
hour and study. Setting alarm will help you wake up and study at the right and convenient time.
9. Read in advance against your exams or test. Reading consistently will enable you to grab and remember
what you read. Clamming is very dangerous because you may likely forget in the exams with regards to
the condition of your exams. So Don’t cram. Studying before and going over it multiple times really is the
best way to learn the material. This is especially true with things like history and theoretical subjects.
10. Study with adequate time, don’t rush. If you know that you don’t have time to study, avoid studying
while you are doing other things. Study in a modulated and convenient time that captures good and
excessive performance. Formulate your studying time, rest and study, use Pomodoro studying
Techniques. After that make a break of 5 minutes; repeat the process 3x, then make a longer pause of 30-
45 minutes.
11. Make your studies a habit. As you are reading aloud , record your voice to know if your studies actually
heel a good result. Playing the recording and listening to it will improve the way you study. Demonstrate
what you are studying with a sketch and pictures to enable you remember the area of concentration.
Auditory learners should record themselves saying notes and recite it afterwards. If you are a physical
person, lecture to yourself (out loud) while also using your hands or moving around; this way it will be
easier for you to memorize. Write down what you read without looking at your notes so as to test your
memory capacity, this will enable you recall what you read faster.
12. Minimize your studying style to fit your subject. Set more time to Subjects such as mathematics thus
require a lot of practice with problem sets in order to become acquainted with the processes required.
Subjects like history or literature, requires more information synthesis and memorization of things such
as terms or dates. Whatever you do, don’t just re-read the same set of notes over and over again. In order
to actually learn, you need to take an active role in knowledge creation as well as information review. Try
finding the “big picture” among what you’ve taken down or reorganizing your notes by theme or date.
13. Think about the kind of questions that your teacher may ask in exams or test. Ask yourself: What is
my teacher most likely to ask on the exam? What materials should I focus on to give myself the best
chance of knowing what I need to know? What trick questions or wrinkles could my teacher introduce
that might throw me for a loop? This may help you focus on the most important information, rather than
getting stuck on things that might not matter as much.
14. Study Before going to Bed
Studying before going to bed can help you recall what you read, as your brain stores new memories and
transfers them to long-term storage during sleep. Studies have shown that students who tackle their
toughest subjects just before bed have better memory retention, recall and comprehension than those
that don’t. There are several schools of thought on why this is the case, but the simplest answer is that
the information doesn’t get drowned out by new data during the day. When you study in the morning,
you have the entire day of distractions to erase your memories. Studying at night gives your brain a single
focus before bed, helping you to hang on to the material longer. Trying to learn the periodic table of
elements? Start with one set and repeat them every morning for a week. Then move on to the next and
the next, adding on to what you have learned. This method is effective because there is a limit to how
much the brain can learn at one time, and by breaking up the information, you can learn more easily.
15. Getting ready to write test questions. Having test previous questions at hand will enable you to
get prepared and ready for any kind of test questions that will be given to you. Put your notes away, pull
out the questions and take the test beforehand. By writing out the questions, then answering them, you
can see where you need more practice. In addition, you’ll retain more information by writing the questions
and answers down, mimicking the actual experience of taking the test. It can also help to have someone
quiz you on the material. Either way, practicing taking the test beforehand is a good way to see what you
have mastered and what you need to work on a bit more.
CONCLUSION
Studying enhances effective learning and improving memory durability. We study by writing out what a
speaker is saying or the information in a text which is preferable to typing it in a computer. This is why
your brain retains it. It has to hear or read the information, translate it, then write it down, which is more
complex than simply transcribing by typing. So you’re more likely to remember your work if you hand
write it. Some students get creative with their note-taking, color coding everything with highlighters and
markers, making charts and graphs and using flags to mark important passages. The key here is to organize
your notes in a way that you can understand them later. Draw diagrams, underline passages, highlight,
circle—whatever you have to do to help you to remember what you need to know.
