9:00 – 10:30 Product and Organisation Environmental Footprint – Methodological issues and policy outlook
Setting the scene Michele Galatola EU Commission DG Environment, Policy Officer
The Commission has been actively working in the last two years on the development of a harmonised
methodology for the calculation of the Environmental Footprint of Products (PEF) and Organisations (OEF). PEF
and OEF are multi-criteria measures of the environmental performance of products or organisations from a life
cycle perspective. Michele will explain why the Commission started to work on this issue, how the work has been
carried out, the main elements that will be part of the two methodologies, and the next steps, both in terms of
further methodological developments and also policy implementation.

The Italian national programme for the Environmental Footprint
Martina Hauser Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea of the Republic of Italy, Coordinator of the Task Force
for the assessment of the environmental footprint of systems and patterns of production and consumption
The presentation from Martina Hauser will explain the initiatives of the Italian Ministry for the Environment
and will highlight the important contribution that voluntary activities can play in the global effort toward GHG
emissions reduction. Martina will speak about the initiatives to promote sustainable development within the
Italian industry and the voluntary Carbon Footprint programme started in 2012, engaging a large number of
Italian corporations and associations on this path.

Successful sustainability strategies in a low growth economy
Rodolphe d'Arjuzon, Verdantix, Global Head of Research
The tough global economic conditions have led to the reevaluation of many corporate sustainability strategies.
In turn sustainability leaders have been challenged to show how sustainability really adds value to their
organisations. So what are the key ingredients of a successful sustainability strategy today? And what do CEOs
                               really think about sustainability?

10:30 – 11:00 Coffee break | For a more detailed discussion meet the speakers directly after the session at the roundtables in the lobby.

11:00 – 12:45 »Front loading« product development with sustainability considerations
Driving transformation Chuck Grindstaff, Siemens PLM Software, President and CEO
in global markets We are witnessing an incredible amount of attention on sustainability in the industry. Traditionally PLM has
focused on substance compliance after the design has matured. We now see a clear trend toward product
development for the environment (DfE) as an integral part of design from the early concept phase itself. Clearly,
there is an opportunity in the industry to tackle the problem in a holistic manner. This keynote session will focus
on a framework for enterprise sustainability and will describe the use cases for DfE and the level of maturity of
software automation implementations including PLM integration.

                               From chocolate to solar heating
Alfred T. Ritter, Ritter Group, Chair of the Advisory Board, Owner, Founder
Moritz Ritter, Ritter Group, Member of the Advisory Board, Owner
Being ecologically consequent means to think in generations. The third generation of the Ritter family gives us a
fine example for lateral business development. For Alfred T. Ritter it is no contradiction to make chocolate and
also produce ecological heating systems. For his son Moritz Ritter being »ecoquent« means that innovation does
not need to be focused on the classical business fields. The Ritter Carbon Balance Method, developed together
with PE, is a new way of using Carbon Footprints as a supervising instrument for the company and a new concept
                               of corporate social responsibility.

Full product transparency – How to cut the fluff out of sustainability
Ramon Arratia, Interface, Sustainability Director EMEAI
Ramon Arratia explains how a new world based on lifecycle assessment (LCA) and environmental product
declarations (EPDs) can take us away from the past decade of corporate responsibility fluff and towards a more
practical era where companies make real social and environmental gains that are based on hard facts.

                               Sustainable dairy products
Jan Dalsgaard Johannesen, Arla Foods Amba, Director Sustainability
Jan Johannesen will present the key factors for a successful implementation of sustainability into the environ-
mental strategy and the implications for the dairy industry.

This session will showcase the sustainability journey, the commitment from executive management and the
integration of the principles into the company’s efforts.

PEF and OEF are multi-criteria measures of the environmental performance of products or organisations from a life cycle perspective. Michele will explain why the Commission started to work on this issue, how the work has been carried out, the main elements that will be part of the two methodologies, and the next steps, both in terms of further methodological developments and also policy implementation. The Italian national programme for the Environmental Footprint Martina Hauser Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea of the Republic of Italy, Coordinator of the Task Force for the assessment of the environmental footprint of systems and patterns of production and consumption The presentation from Martina Hauser will explain the initiatives of the Italian Ministry for the Environment and will highlight the important contribution that voluntary activities can play in the global effort toward GHG emissions reduction. Martina will speak about the initiatives to promote sustainable development within the Italian industry and the voluntary Carbon Footprint programme started in 2012, engaging a large number of Italian corporations and associations on this path. Successful sustainability strategies in a low growth economy Rodolphe d'Arjuzon, Verdantix, Global Head of Research The tough global economic conditions have led to the reevaluation of many corporate sustainability strategies. In turn sustainability leaders have been challenged to show how sustainability really adds value to their organisations. So what are the key ingredients of a successful sustainability strategy today? And what do CEOs really think about sustainability? 10:30 – 11:00 Coffee break | For a more detailed discussion meet the speakers directly after the session at the roundtables in the lobby. 11:00 – 12:45 »Front loading« product development with sustainability considerations Driving transformation Chuck Grindstaff, Siemens PLM Software, President and CEO in global markets We are witnessing an incredible amount of attention on sustainability in the industry. Traditionally PLM has focused on substance compliance after the design has matured. We now see a clear trend toward product development for the environment (DfE) as an integral part of design from the early concept phase itself. Clearly, there is an opportunity in the industry to tackle the problem in a holistic manner. This keynote session will focus on a framework for enterprise sustainability and will describe the use cases for DfE and the level of maturity of software automation implementations including PLM integration. From chocolate to solar heating Alfred T. Ritter, Ritter Group, Chair of the Advisory Board, Owner, Founder Moritz Ritter, Ritter Group, Member of the Advisory Board, Owner Being ecologically consequent means to think in generations. The third generation of the Ritter family gives us a fine example for lateral business development. For Alfred T. Ritter it is no contradiction to make chocolate and also produce ecological heating systems. For his son Moritz Ritter being »ecoquent« means that innovation does not need to be focused on the classical business fields. The Ritter Carbon Balance Method, developed together with PE, is a new way of using Carbon Footprints as a supervising instrument for the company and a new concept of corporate social responsibility. Full product transparency – How to cut the fluff out of sustainability Ramon Arratia, Interface, Sustainability Director EMEAI Ramon Arratia explains how a new world based on lifecycle assessment (LCA) and environmental product declarations (EPDs) can take us away from the past decade of corporate responsibility fluff and towards a more practical era where companies make real social and environmental gains that are based on hard facts. Sustainable dairy products Jan Dalsgaard Johannesen, Arla Foods Amba, Director Sustainability Jan Johannesen will present the key factors for a successful implementation of sustainability into the environ- mental strategy and the implications for the dairy industry.
