- Leading a Transformation in Education
Dr. Govindasamy Viswanathan, is the founder and chancellor of
Vellore Institute of Technology in India, was born on 8 December
1938 in a remote village in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
He served as a Member of Parliament and as a Member of the
Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He is an MA and a BL and
completed an Advanced Management Program at the Harvard
Business School in 2003. He was conferred the Honorary
Doctorate by the West Virginia University , USA, in 2009 for his
meritorious contributions in the field of Education . His vision has
made VIT one of the fastest growing Universities in India in
Ranking. VIT is now an Institution of Eminence , IOE, because of
the Vision of our Chancellor , the Vice Presidents and rest of the
core Group.

8. The Academic Staff College at VIT University
It was started in 2004, three years after the Vellore Engineering College became a Deemed
University under the UGC 1956 act 3.
The roles and responsibilities are to train the trainer, empower the trainer, disseminate knowledge
to the students through the trainer or the faculty and assist in inclusive growth .
To improve the teaching and learning outcomes and the ranking and accreditation outcomes of
the Institution.
To work on feedback from the faculty, staff, experts , organizations and auditors for continual
improvement
About 150 developmental programmes are conducted each year by the ASC in multiple disciplines.
The ASC has given birth to the Distance Learning and the VIT On-line Learning Centres down the
years since inception.
9. The ASC Methodologies and Event Management
Identification of the subject areas by the ASC, Schools and Departments in the University/Centres
as fields requiring training.
New areas are identified for training based on;
• Curriculum design and development needs
• Fundamental research requirements
• Areas for Industrial collaboration and Progress, Industry 4.0, Society 5.0 and UN sustainability goals,

15. The ASC Model and its Impact
It is said that what happens to you is not experience but what
you do with what happens to you is experience. The faculty
and staff are expected to feedback the outcomes from the
FDPs, Seminars and Skill development Programmes that
contribute to measurable outcomes . The outcomes lead to
more of learning, accreditation and ranking. This is a continual
auditable process that leads to more learning and visibility in
VIT’s pathway to QS 200.

A brief introduction to VIT University and its Academic Staff College were
given.
The Methodologies followed by the ASC and its event management were
highlighted.
The HR roles and programmes that train the trainer were illustrated.
