Industry Research and Analysis
Per Gartner Group, TPM contracts offer customers an average of 60 percent savings off
OEM support list prices. However, depending on equipment type, location and
product density, Gartner has seen that the range of savings with TPM contracts is 50 to
95 percent off OEM list.
According to Gartner in 2017, by 2020, the number of TPM-related RFI/RFPs that are
multiplatform/multivendor will increase by 35% as TPM becomes more mainstream
and is no longer considered a point solution for servers, storage or networking.
Based on a Forrester Research study, companies spend an average of 72% of their IT
budget for keep-the-lights-on (KTLO) activities, leaving only 28% for new projects.
Some analysts estimate the spend is 80% for KTLO activities.
Gartner has taken hundreds of inquiries from prospects on the topic of cancelling the
vendor's maintenance agreement and switching to third-party support and
recommends investigating third-party support in order to gain the financial means to
invest in modernization.
