Peter is a Civil Engineer with over 40 years experience in the transport sector. He started his career at the Department of Main Roads
(DMR) where he worked at several locations across NSW constructing and maintaining roads. He then moved onto managing road
projects and programs where he gained extensive experience in managing complex programs including construction programs on the
Pacific Hwy.
Peter then moved into the role as RTA Road Services Manager (Grafton) where he managed a direct control organisation delivering
road and bridge construction projects/maintenance activities in a commerical environment.
Peter moved to Sydney in 2004 where he managed RTA Sydney Road Services (over 750 staff) which carried out a multitude of
technical tasks in road constrcution and maintenance, bridge and tunnel maintenance (incl Sydney Harbour Bridge) and Intelligent
Transport Systems ($250M)
In 2009, Peter was appointed RTA Regional Manager, Sydney (and Alliance Leader) where he built good collaboration with corporate
clients and service providers and represented Sydney region on several high level committees. He was responsible for the $500
million annual program (over 500 staff) which required high level oversight with intervention where political, relationship, media or
financial problems were detected or escalated.
Peter holds a key role as Executive Adviser with MU Group Consulting and is well regarded for his leadership skills and collaborative
approach and his ability to manage organisations through change which he has developed over a long career and ongoing education.
He is well regarded for the role he played in RMS’ transition of Sydney Region to a new corporate structure and the outsourcing of
road, bridge and traffic maintenance and construction services to private sector service providers.
Key Achievements and Highlights
 Intervened in numerous difficult projects to ensure completion in accordance with business objectives including Sydney Harbour Bridge
Southern Approach repainting, Heathcote Pedestrian Bridge, Fullers Road reconfiguration, Bells Line of Road overtaking lanes and Navy
Centenary celebrations.
 Led the transition of Sydney Region as part of the corporate restructure of RMS following the formation of Transport for NSW.
 Managed the closure of Sydney Project Services Section and major restructuring of other sections as part of the introduction of Stewardship
Maintenance Contracts in Sydney.
 Intervened in difficult projects including the Castle Hill Ring Road, Blackheath Pedestrian Upgrade, Seaforth pedestrian fence, Mulgoa /
Jamison roundabout.
 Tightened the accountabilities of RMS section managers and project managers in managing the annual works program.
 Refocussed alliance leadership teams on their leadership roles and accountability to the Regional Alliance Leadership Team.
 Built strong working relationships through regular contact with external bodies which interacted with RTA on multiple or significant fronts,
including Sydney Airport Corporation Ltd, Urban Growth NSW, Sydney Ports, Sydney Olympic Park Authority, State Transit Authority and
City of Sydney Council.
 Developed customer service to local MPs and the Ministers’ Offices to enhance the image and reputation of Sydney Region.
 Led the RMS Sydney Road Services involvement in alliance contracts for Sydney Harbour Bridge, Narellan Road Reconstruction and other
traffic, maintenance and construction projects.
 Project director for the Narellan Road and Hazelbrook reconstruction projects and numerous smaller projects.
 Project director on selected major projects in RTA Northern Region including Halfway Creek realignment and duplication and Dourrigans
Gap realignment.
 Responsible for driving cultural change to a commercial organisation providing road and bridge maintenance and construction and
negotiated with subcontractors, clients and unions on significant areas of concern.
 Currently Club Growth Director for District 70 of Toastmasters International
 Director Northern Rivers Area Health Service (1996 – 2004)
 Alderman on Grafton City Council (1987 – 1991)
 Attended ANZSOG Executive Fellows Program, 2012.
 Completed Graduate Diploma of Management, Deakin University, (1996-2002).
 Attended AGSM General Manager Program, 2007.
