WebSphere DataStage EE 8.0.1 batch environment to version 8.1.01. Implemented and configured 8 linux batch
servers; dev (1), test (1), QA (2), and prod (4). QA and Prod DataStage environments are deployed on a shared
Veritas cluster in a head node-compute node for improved load balancing capability. Head node to compute
node failover is also available in this new environment. QA and Prod servers are within a firewalled “enclaved”
environment with restricted access. Approximately 5000 DataStage jobs were upgraded from the previous
version with approximately 800 jobs converted from using the DB2 EE Stage to the DB2 Connector stage in a
very aggressive timeline of 6 months.
In 2009, as Data Integration Lead responsible for the analysis, design, and construction of the WebSphere
DataStage EE 8.0.1 batch environment. Implemented and configured four linux based batch servers, one dev,
one test, and two standalone production servers. Sources and targets include but a not limited to Host Data
Acquisition, Data Warehouses, Data Marts on various database technologies such as DB2 UDB, Oracle, MS
SQLServer, and IBM Balanced Configuration Unit.
In 2008, assigned as Data Integration Lead assisted in the analysis, design and construction of the Enterprise
Customer Information File operational system and the Enterprise Customer Data Warehouse near real time
processes. Responsible for the design and construction of the dev, test, QA and Prod DataStage server
environments and configuration. The QA and Prod environments are configured in an active/passive High
Availabilty/Failover configuration. This project is using technologies and infrastructure from the applied
research projects described below. Technologies used to deliver this project are IBM’s Classic Event Publisher
(CEP), MQ Series, WebSphere DataStage EE 8.0.1 Data Integration tool used in near real time mode, Data Event
Publisher (DEP), DB2 UDB, DB2 Data Warehouse Edition (DWE) on IBM Balanced Configuration Units.
In late 2007, assigned as ETL Design Lead to three USAA/IBM Technical Applied Research efforts to determine
feasibility, design functionality, acquisition, and implementation of new IBM Near Real Time Data Warehouse
Technology and tools. These 3 efforts delved into the Balanced Configuration Unit (BCU) scalable data
warehouse hardware, DataStage Data Integration tool in near real time mode, and the metadata integration of the
IBM’s WebSphere Information Server Tool.
In 2007, assigned as Enterprise DW/Integration Area Development Component Lead responsible for analyzing
and planning for design changes to the current and future EDW/EIA model by current and upcoming projects.
Currents projects are for Market Performance Reporting and Analysis to support CEO Market Performance
Reporting to improve business decision execution. Other responsibilities include providing design and guidance
to ETL Project Delivery Teams to promote delivery of efficient and sound ETL processing from Data
Acquisition to Data Mart delivery in an accurate and timely manner. ETL Tool: Informatica PowerCenter 8
In 2006, acting as Project Technical and Data Integration Lead lead many employee and 3rd
party teams to

projects included the HomeOwner Risk Tier project which encompassed the entire DW Lifecycle from Host Data
Acquisition, Data Store, Data Mart, and MS Analysis Services on IBM UDB/DB2 and SqlServer Database
platforms, Visual Sciences Analysis tool to track customer .com activity by delivering customer click trail data to
application using Informatica PowerCenter 7, Market Performance Reporting delivering raw Property and
Casualty and Customer into the Enterprise Integration Area for future storage in the planned Enterprise Data
Warehouse.
In 2005, acting as Lead Informatica Developer continued to perform the analysis, design, construction and
implementation of the USAA Property and Casualty System Data Store (SDS) using Unix Kornshell scripting
and follow up projects such as the Fraud Tracking Application for Property and Casualty Insurance. Also lead
other projects, in the same capacity, delivering applications such as the IT Project Metrics Application
integrating project metrics into a single data repository allowing Project Managers improved project reporting
and estimating abilities in turn providing better project control and increased successful project implementation
in time to market and project cost savings.
In 2004, Acting as the Lead Informatica Developer performed the analysis, design, construction and
implementation of the USAA Property and Casualty System Data Store (SDS) using Unix Kornshell scripting,
Informatica PowerCenter 6.1 to extract, transform and load Auto Policy Data into an IBM partitioned UDB/DB2
database. The first implemented at USAA. The MVS source file is ftp’ed as a 25-40 Gigabyte file that consists
of 40-60 million records of variable record lengths that include quality control record counts. Source is
processed into respective target table and work files and load using DB2 Sql Load scripts. 80-100 million
records processed on a twice nightly.
Acting as Lead Informatica Developer led the analysis, design, construction and implementation of the
PeopleSoft EPM Application retiring the USAA Financial Data Warehouse converting 400 existing Unix
Kornshell/Informatica ETL processes to the use the delivered EPM Informatica objects often modifying to meet
the requirements provided by the USAA Financial User Community in 2003. Continued in the role of the Task
Group Lead maintaining the existing 400 USAA Financial Data Warehouse Unix Kornshell/Informatica ETL
processes

enhancing, and maintaining the USAA Financial Data Warehouse and achieving 98.5% system availability in
2001 and 2002. Demonstrated dynamic and innovative analysis and programming skills, performance tuning
activities that are vital elements in reducing system maintenance request generation thus allowing more time to
address customer requested system development and enhancements.
As an IT Systems Analyst performed analysis, design, construction and implementation of the USAA Financial
Data Warehouse Pilot using Unix Kornshell scripting, SQL and PL/SQL scripts to extract, transform and load
Financial data from the PeopleSoft General Ledger application. The second phase of the Financial Data
Warehouse (FDW) was implemented one year later.
Performed analysis, programming, directed and assisted other IT Systems Analysts and Associate Analysts in the
coding and testing of modifications to remove the surrogate keys from the FDW thus empowering the FDW end-
user to query, research and resolve data issues more efficiently thus resulting in lower troubleshooting and
customer service costs.
Analyzed, designed and implemented the FDW Essbase Switch Utility. This utility is an application that allows
FDW users to have two versions of the ESSBASE application installed upon their desktop. Designed and
implemented this utility with little or no supervision in an expedient manner following all USAA ITCO

programming standards. The utility gives the user the ability to toggle between two versions of Essbase giving
the user more functionality and eliminating the need for a second work station.
As FDW Task Group Lead, was responsible for the estimation, distribution and completion of all work requests.
Analyzed, designed and coded the FDW Data Retention process to eliminate obsolete data to recover disk space.
30 gigabytes disk space was returned for a cost savings in excess of $120,000.
Responsible for efficiencies to nightly batch process and performance tuning of queries that has resulted in
decreased processing time and has contributed significantly to the application’s $130,000 profitability for 2001
and again in 2002.
