- History - last year invitation only - not a lot of support material NOW - anybody - lots of excellent tutorials - books ($) - curriculum Kudos to the early adopters - without them we wouldn't be able to use App Inventor now. Elephant in the room - transition of App Inventor from Google to MIT
- BYOD - do this, if you haven't already Users in the room - go to App Inventor (login to google) - start blocks editor - new emulator Takes some time to do - I can talk while it all loads! - Designer is a web page - layout the components - design screen layout Blocks Editor - java program - started from Designer webpage Emulator - java program - started from Blocks editor Android phone can also be used (setup on phone required - in help section - no special software) Blocks editor can connect to only one device emulator OR phone at a time
- App Inventor has "scratch-like" interface First scratch app - make a cat meow Irony not lost that the first App Inventor app is to make a cat purr - better graphic - same sound. Get the two files from the text tutorial Demo the debugging features watch doit and use of comments.
- lean - tutorials and other support materials / documentation You can get overwhelmed to start - KISS stick with App Inventor EDU and your guts! App Inventor lets the students learn through experimentation and problem solve - not held back by the rigours of Java (like my 3Us are!).
