4. WHAT IS SKINPUT??
Skinput is an input technology that uses bio-
acoustic sensing to localize finger taps on the skin.
When augmented with a pico-projector, the device
can provide a direct manipulation, graphical user
interface on the body.
Developed by Chris Harrison, Desney Tan, and Dan
Morris, atMicrosoft Research's Computational User
Experiences Group.
Touch screen gadgets have become popular due to
the advantages they come with.Skinput turns the
body into a touch-screen interface.
5. TOUCHSCREEN VS. SKINPUT
Touchscreen gadgets have become popular due to
the advantages they come with. This a recent
innovation called skinput, turns the body into a
touchscreen interface.
An armband projects a user interface onto the
skin, enabling users to control devices with a larger
touchscreen than is offered by many mobile
devices
A new skin-based interface called Skinput allows
users to use their own hands and arms as
touchscreens by detecting the various ultralow-
frequency sounds produced when tapping different
parts of the skin.
7. Motivation Of Skinput
The motivation for the Skinput device is
as follows: the performance and usability
of mobile devices can be hindered by the
size of the input controls on the devices.
The authors’ solution to this problem is
to use various regions of the user’s skin as
an input device.
14. Acoustic features
Ten channels of acoustic data generated by threefinger taps on the forearm, followed by
three taps on the wrist.
The exponential average of the channels is shown in red. Segmented
input windows are highlighted in green.
Note how different sensing elements are actuated by the two locations
