Unbeknownst to most mainstream Facebook users, the social network actually offers a slew of privacy
controls and security features which can help you batten down the hatches. If used properly, you'll never
                have to worry about whether you should friend the boss and your mom.

                                • Log on to Facebook.
     Customize
                                • Click on “Account” in the menu on the upper right side of the page.

                                • Select “Privacy Settings” from the options in box under “Account”.

                                • Go to “Customize Settings,” where you can determine who will see different
                                types of information available on your profile page.

                                • Three groups of Facebook users:

                                • Privacy Settings page lets you customize the settings for your information.

        You just need to take a few precautions that you can your family can put into practice.

"As social networking, and specifically Twitter, becomes more ingrained in everyday business, it is crucial
to understand the nature of attacks happening on these sites, as well as how users and networks can be
                   compromised." says Dr Paul Judge, CRO at Barracuda Networks.

                                 • Submit a Support ticket to Twitter
   Where to Start
                                 • Twitter will investigate reports of violent threats – it is up to you to contact the
                                 police or other local authorities if you deem necessary and appropriate.

                                 • Go to Help (click on the lower right hand side of the page, then click on “Report
                                 a Violation”).

                                 • Select the “Everything Else” category and then select “Harassment” from the
                                 drop-down menu.

                                 • You will receive a confirmation once your ticket has been submitted. You can
                                 check on the status of tickets submitted by going to the Twitter Support Home
                                 Page (http://support.twitter.com/form).

                               • Use a strong password and change frequently.

                               • Watch out for suspicious links in your replies and direct messages.

                               • Always make sure you’re on Twitter.com before you enter your login
                               information.

                               patches, upgrades, and antivirus software.

Cyberbulling

Refers to any situation where a online user is harassed, taunted or humiliated by their peers via email,
 social media or other types of websites such as blogs. In lemans terms, it is the online equivalent of
                                                       physical bullying.


       Forms                   • Posting malicious comments or false rumors about an individual.

                               • Posting unattractive or compromising photographs of a person.

                               • Revealing details about a users personal life that they would keep private.

                               • Gaining access to an account and positing malicious comments.

  How to Stop It               • Block Communications.

Online Predators

An online predator is an adult Internet user who exploits vulnerable children, or teens, usually for sexual
                                                  or other abusive purposes.




 Are You a Target               • Your grandchildren make or receive calls from numbers you do not know.

                                • Your grandchildren receive mail or packages from unknown sources.

                                • Your grandchildren are using emails/accounts belonging to someone else.

                                • You discover sexually explicit material on their computer or phone.

   How to Stop It               • Address the issue head-on with your grandchildren.

                                • Give your grandchildren and children specific rules to follow.

                                • Carefully monitor or consider your grandchild's use of Social Media.

                                • Conduct regular internet searches for you and your family.

Identity Theft

Identity theft is defined as someone using “personally identifying information like your name or social
             security number without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes.




      Types                   • Phishing – sending phony emails that seem to be from financial institutions,
                              Internet Service Providers, or trusted companies asking you to change or confirm
                              your personal information and/or account passwords.

                              • Emails asking you to click photos, web links, videos, or online invitations that
                              will redirect you to sites that install “spyware”.

                              • Rummaging through discarded papers looking for bills or records that contain
                              personal information.

                              • Posing as government officials, repairmen, or even a spouses/relatives to get
                              bank, utilities or other companies to reveal information about you.

                              • Create strong passwords for you accounts.

                              • Consider what information you “tweet”.

                              • Don’t click links from unknown sources.
