TALK TRACK GUIDANCE:
Please consider the following:
The cumulative slides and speaker notes could take up an hour or more with customer Q&A. Right size for your situation.
This is a supplement to your pitch presentation to provide insight into the portfolio’s strategic direction over the next 1-3 years.
Time & Billing: Innovation in the end-to-end work-to-cash cycle is critical to evolving the way we work
Productivity: Our voice is heard via user groups and voting which builds confidence that the roadmap is advancing with our best interests in mind
Insights: Key insights unlocked and embedded into our workflow enables us to make the best strategic decisions
Cloud: Thomson Reuters has gone beyond the competition’s hosted offerings to deliver a truly modern, software-as-a-service solution
KEY POINTS
Now you are specifically driving into our main high level themes for this year.
This slide serves as a brief introduction to our main areas of focus at the portfolio level. Details on each will follow in subsequent slides.
This is a big, comprehensive solution that helps customers solve some of their most complex, mission-critical problems. There’s a lot going on already, and the pace is only accelerating. This means it can sometimes be easy to lose sight of the forest because we are so focused on the trees.
So let’s take a moment to talk about the key themes and objectives that inform our direction and connect individual product roadmaps, portfolio-level strategy and our enterprise-level portfolio vision
There are three main drivers: Customers are asking us to chart a course to the cloud, to help them increase agility while reducing overall cost of operation, and leverage our unique insights and advanced technology to help increase efficiency, reduce administrative burden and be more strategic in the way they work
Note: The quotes at the bottom are aspirational, meaning our objective is to create this experience for customers. We will know we’ve succeeded when customers feel this way and say things like this.
Thomson Reuters’ Legal Tech teams are thinking differently about how we serve our clients. Our products need to work effortlessly together and with the firm’s other products. They need to be easy to use with the ability to learn and recommend actions making them more valuable to the user the more they are used. They need to deliver experiences that people want to be part of, and that allows users to do what they NEED to do faster to get back to what they WANT to do quicker. We need to deliver connected, open and smart experiences that give our users the freedom to focus on what matters….to them!
Customer focussed solutions and use cases at the heart of our platform:
Spend, Cases + Matters, Insights Legal Tracker, 3E Data insights, Case Notebook, GCM, eBillingHub, Westlaw
Contracts and Transactions Practical Law, Contract Analysis, Drafting Assistant, Contract Express
HighQ as the core collaboration platform that underpins it all.
Azure Cloud Tech
For a vendor to state they offer future proofed tech, means that you never really stop. There is always more to innovate. For example, continued extensibility including connects with O365 and Teams
MLF eats your lunch
Midsize firms are already leading the way with adoption. They are hungry to differentiate and compete against the larger firms. And, getting Live is going to be even faster for mid-sized firms. Will large firms start to be at a disadvantage?
What are they seeing in the future? Because the foundation is there for the taking and already addressed, they envision a future where X, Y, Z is going to be possible....and they want to be ahead of the curve
We are delivering on our promise to deliver our customers a new modern, law firm experience. This year we’re focused on 4 core areas that 1) have been informed by customer insight and 2) address their pain points.
With time entry, what are other firms doing to make sure that they get that compliance? I want to know about how they get clean time entry, not just time entry. - CFO of Large Law Firm
Reducing administrative burdens for attorneys, billers and Finance teams is an on-going priority. Firms want to ensure that they have the right tools (& processes)) in place so lawyers can focus on high-value client work. Similarly, billing and Finance teams would rather focus on strategically supporting attorneys, thus need billing journey enhancements that can support AFAs, centralized and decentralized models, expedite the proforma review process to improve cash flow.
Once the first wave of firms start moving to the cloud, it will be like a dam bursting – firms will migrate quickly after that - CTO of Large Law Firm
Many of our customers have started their journey to the Cloud and for them, we want to accelerate the pace at which they see value in adopting a cloud-first strategy. For starters, we want to make it easier to onboard new users and remove unnecessary hurdles. We also strive to make cloud deployments easier from both a time and cost perspective, with pre-packaged configurations – versus services’ heavy customizations.
Integration is a means to an end. We want the systems to be interoperable. – Law Firm CIO
Firms are eager for the technology they’ve invested in to work seamlessly together. That’s why we continue to focus on delivering interoperable solutions within the 3E portfolio so that our TR solutions work well together – but also with other tech partners and firms’ own home-grown tools.
The thing that moved the needle for us was that the future state is now absolutely crystal clear. The reality is that there’s things you’re going to get in the cloud that you’re not going to get in a non-premise version.” - CIO of G200 Law Firm“
We are leading a generational transformation of law firm business operations software from on-premises to cloud-first solutions. We will double-down to deliver unmatched value and automation across the work-to-cash cycle, and the insights all our customers rely on to inform strategic decisions.
KEY POINTS
Enhanced Productivity for Lawyers, Billers, Finance
Ease of Cloud Adoption & Use
Connected Solution Ecosystem
Insights & Intelligence
For lawyers and other fee-earns this is what it is all about – get them the information they want and let them act on it as efficiently as possible – to give them time back in their day to focus on work and spend less time on administrative tasks
Dashboard & Tasks Inbox
Unified Inbox: centralized, single UI for 3E's various inboxes and notifications. Will be available in 3E and in Workspace.
New interactive dashboard in Workspace displaying user stats for time, WIP, AR, and current proformas and allow action on same (e.g., enter time, go to time calendar, view WIP report, run matter inquiry, go to 3E Proforma). Ability to configure dashboard parts and layout.
Minimize Lost Billable Time
Always-on Time = passive activity monitoring and capture to facilitate time entry and reduce lost revenue opportunities
Desktop monitor passively tracks user activities as the work gets done
Websites visited and applications used, e.g., Westlaw Edge, 3E Workspace
Documents opened, edited and saved, e.g., Word, PowerPoint
Business communication platforms used for meetings, chats and phone calls, e.g., Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Outlook emails sent and received
Microsoft Outlook calendar appointments scheduled and attended
Initially tracks the user's active window and captures the application and active window's title (e.g., Microsoft Word and the document title); future releases will track more granular details of the activities (e.g., client, matter, contact, suggested narrative based on document content, etc.)
User controls what is and isn’t tracked
Pause activity tracking and categorize periods of inactivity to submit as time entries
Create rules matching activity to specific client and matter
Include or exclude from tracking – specific email addresses, applications, documents and websites
From the daily consolidated view in Workspace, user can
Review activity data
Edit, delete, and merge tracked activities
Turn passively captured activities into time entries in the same place time is entered
Suggested Time
Pre-populated as much data as possible from the captured activity to the time entry to reduce amount of data and turn it into a review exercise rather than a data entry exercise
Prompt users as they are working to create an entry for what they are doing – and pre-populate it
Auto-complete/auto-suggested entry or selection based on other entries
As Always-on Time capabilities are released, we will provide more granular activity detail tracking with which we will be able to auto-populate more time entry details, auto-group related activities in suggested entries, and pre-populate as much data for the entries as possible
Make the overall process less onerous and let the software do a lot of the work.
With Wave 1 focus on efficiency gains for the biller to shorten the overall cycle
New options and capabilities to eliminate inefficiencies in the process and let them do more things at once rather than separately or sequentially
Alignment with commercial execution
More flexibility, more control to do what the firm’s customers are demanding of them
Providing the capabilities to address regulatory requirements globally for electronic invoice and taxation data submission
More options to allow them to define and control the processes to allow them to work more efficiently so they have more time to support their lawyers more effectively
Next waves of 3E Proforma capabilities
Continuing to advance the end-to-end billing cycle and invoicing process
More flexibility, more options, more information where they need to see it and act on it to take proper, desired actions
Whatever a firm’s billing operational model is – whether centralized, decentralized or more likely a mixture of each.
Lawyers will be able to self-serve, view their WIP, generate a proforma, and, where allowed and depending on their workflow, generate the final invoice as well.
Global Billing Models Supported
Alternative Fee Arrangements
Centralized billing model support
Decentralized billing model support (lawyer self-service bill distribution)
eBillingHub integration
3E Proforma Cloud
Configurable Bill Templates
Providing more capabilities to allow users to proactively control business processes and improve efficiencies
Balancing - Proactive validations and notifications, to stop/spot issues before they become problems; providing more capabilities to streamline the month-end and year-end balancing process. We’re not eliminating the need to balance – we’re providing more options to prevent out of balance scenarios and to speed up the overall monthly and year-end process.
Simplification to streamline daily transactional work
Short processes with only the bare minimum of fields needed to create and successfully save a record – but if they need more fields or actions for a specific entry, they’re only a click away
A better and more logical layout of processes and fields on forms
Compliance – the pace of regulatory and statutory obligations is increasing and we’re providing new capabilities to meet those specific requirements
Advantage
All of these items and several more give users increased control to configure the solutions for how they work which will drive their efficiency
Now, let’s turn our attention to how we will continue to bolster cloud adoption
For customers already using our software, we will be accelerating the pace of getting value to into customer’s hands
To support this approach, we will need to provide customers help or guidance when they need it
We will be working with the organization to pull together and create a collection of videos
Short videos to introduce a new capability with references to deeper documentation and trainings were appropriate
The idea is to allow customer to access the help with they need or want it, at a pace that makes sense to them
Will be leveraging a shared service other TR solutions are using to allow us to provide the right information, at the right time, in the context of the user’s actions
Features or a set of capabilities will be accompanied with “product” or “feature” tour content, and/or contextual help
For customers who have signed on to the cloud, we will continue create simpler and quicker ways for them to begin taking advantage of the software signed up for
Following on our configure over customization methodology, we will be extending that further into our cloud deployment an implementation model
We will offer a guided Q&A experience to help automate and deploy preconfigured instances, our 2 MVP automation will target our MLF and LPE market
This self service and automated approach is an example of our journey to a more turnkey and scalable approach to on-boarding customers
Another key element of our strategy is interoperability.
Interoperability within the 3E solution suite and related law firm management products
Interoperability within TR solutions (e.g., to help connect law firm and corporate legal departments by better aligning 3E and eBillingHub with Legal Tracker)
Interoperability with partner solutions
Of course, interoperability for solutions a firm may build
To support this, we will expand our newer methods (APIs) while also investing in our established and simple capabilities (ESB)
THEME – Continue to modernize available integration points (API) for partners
Expand 3E APIs to beyond master files, including New Business Intake workflow, Related Parties, Payee, Vendors, Vouchers, Offices, Departments, and GL Accounts. Enables internal and external solutions to implement integrations with 3E (e.g. Global Exchange)
Event store to facilitate event-based integrations, e.g. APIs/events when new bills available, new matters created, workflow steps ready for action, etc.
APIs will also enable customers to extend 3E via building on other platforms, e.g. Microsoft's Power Platform
THEME – Satisfy need of existing legal ecosystem
ESB enhancements expand common data imports for existing legal solutions (e.g. cost recovery, receipts data, exchange rates, bank statements) [simple data file import ESB integration vs. building integration via APIs]
MVP integration with LawPay (fka ClientPay) available via Professional Services engagement & ESB
Now that our solutions are in the cloud, we can really begin to harness power of the cloud computing and services to advance our customer’s user experience
In 2022 we will begin to harness the power of data
Using our product analytics platform, we will allow us to improve user experience
We will be able to identify usage patterns to remove the friction from a user’s daily tasks
E.g. if we see that most users are switching to a form view from the defaulted grid view, TR can incorporate these findings quickly into the next release, improving the user experience one interaction at a time
Another area where data will help is our monitoring and observability of the underlying processes
Our data will help us proactively and transparently improve user experience by continually tuning and improving the system based on usage patterns

In bringing Cost Accounting and Partner Compensation to the cloud, we will begin unifying the DI and AFS data sources
This will introduce the ability to share data across the applications, allowing for new reports and insights to emerge
Users can select their preferred method of accessing that data, whether it be Excel, Power BI, or DI API enabled
Modernizes, simplifies and unifies the TR approach to data and reporting
TR can continue to deliver customers new capabilities, while transparently transforming and modernizing our technology stack
Wave 2
As we unify our data, we also introduce ways for law firms to include data from other sources.
With data in unified and more consistent data models, we can start introducing new tools to apply AI models and practices:
Case outcome metrics (are we better?)
Identify clients to pursue
Know yourselves better, and the competition: firms AND lawyers

We launched Strategic Insights last year to help deliver data – from both Financial Insights (Peer Monitor) and Market Insights Acritas. With Strategic Insights, law firms have access to the competitive and market intelligence they need to inform and remove risk from strategic decisions as well as justify new projects and investments that will drive their firm’s future. SI allows them to easily run, share and analyze, allowing attys, BD/Marketing and Finance teams to contribute more robustly and add greater value to important firm projects.
KEY POINTS
Bringing Data and Insights Together
Improving Targeting and Competitive Intelligence
With 3E, Data Insights and AFS, our customers have tools to analyze their own data. Strategic Insights allows firms to compare their firm to their peers. Financial Insights gives firms unparalleled access to data about their peers for 65 different metrics such as rates, YoY growth, demand
Later this month we are releasing new visualizations . . . saving users from creating their own visuals to share internally. But for firms who want to see their data along side FI data, we'll be releasing our first API by year end.
In this competitive staffing market, our new talent module will provide insight into key attributes of top talent. "Talent Insights is based on data from the Stellar Performance survey of 'stand out performers', independently nominated by in-house counsel who have worked with them. The Talent Insights data covers: Star qualities - what qualities stand out performers have that they believe makes them stand out to their clients Satisfaction with current firm - covering what they like about their current firm, how it could be improved, ratings of various aspects of the firms' leadership, satisfaction with support functions and likelihood to recommend
Revisit flexible path to cloud story. Don’t need to use the word “hybrid” but we know the story resonates.
Benefit of modular architecture is flexibility. You can chart your own course to cloud on your time scale…
Other benefit is speed of evolution in the modules.
With 3E today you will be cloud-ready with future-proof technology, even if you aren’t yet ready to have your full FMS in the cloud. Which means you don’t have to have your full tech transformation mapped out to take the meaningful first step to set your firm up for success in the years to come.

This is a section. Include Azure, security, extensibility, MS O365
Security, performance, etc.
Plus YOU’RE ALREADY THERE. And so are we.
To get the most out of your platform you need to understand the tools, etc. To get the most out of your tech team they need to be focused. Why force them to understand, manage and optimize multiple platforms. It’s a recipe for inefficiency, cost creep and frustration.
Of course you can do things like create Outlook integrations with an application hosted in AWS, but if you think a bit further about things like the skillsets you’ll need in your tech team and how to have your tech resources be as agile and efficient as possible, requiring them to maintain expertise in two platforms starts to look silly. Likewise, the tools available (analytics/BI, application extensibility, etc.) differ between platforms, so why set your teams up to have to learn, use and maintain different toolsets just to be able to do something relatively simple like a Teams chatbot to display WIP.
The new UI promises to deliver improved workflows, increased data visibility, and an overall better user experience. eBH can support firms adopt a more efficient work-to-cash cycle delivered in a way that enables firms to comfortably transition from how they work today to how they want to work going forward.

As you can tell, there’s a lot on the roadmap for the Finance and Practice Management portfolio. To recap, for 3E our focus will be on enhancing productivity for attorneys, billers and finance professionals. We’re making it easier for firms to join us on the journey to the cloud by making it easier to implement and adopt. We’re also investing in identifying and delivering cloud-specific benefits. Customers need to know that our solutions will work across our portfolio but also with other legal tools, as they value interoperability.
We want to break down data silos – and make it easier for firms to review data across sources so they can evaluate firm performance, access market trends and identify opportunities for growth.
Finally, we’re bringing our customers more intelligent, smarter ways to e-bill clients that complies with outside counsel guidelines, leading to less errors.
