The Dream Job Training Manual™
What Others Are Saying?
Philippe listened to my job search struggles and pointed out exactly what I needed to work on.
In my case, I had difficulty with asserting myself in job interviews. No word of a lie - I took his
advice, and I nailed the next set of interviews. A week and a half later, I landed a Dream Job
as Marketing Coordinator for a widely recognized corporation. I cannot thank him enough for
his help.
DREAM JOB: Marketing Coordinator
Jeff Powell
This system motivated me to keep focused on the action steps rather than the immediate
results. I landed my Dream Job in less than 4 weeks and did so with no work permit or landed
immigrant status. If the steps worked for me, they can work for anyone!
DREAM JOB: Mechanical Engineer
Urs Schonbachler
Your step-by-step process made looking for my dream job so much simpler. As a result, I
landed my Dream Job in an amazing 2 weeks. I cannot thank you enough for your
professionalism and motivation.
DREAM JOB: Engineer-In-Training
Clare Ing
I arrived 3 months ago. I landed my Dream Job in only 6 weeks. Joining the program was one
of the greatest things that happened to me since I set foot in this country.
DREAM JOB: Senior Accountant
Bob Kashyap
Thank you Philippe. Your-step-by-step coaching was the greatest thing that happened to me.
In such a short period of time I was able to feel the labor market, learn about it, and fit into
it. Very effective!
DREAM JOB: Client Care Coordinator
Sanda Islik
The skills and knowledge I acquired from you where pivotal to me successfully selling my
services to the local market. You have obvious depth and breadth of knowledge and
experience-very professional.
DREAM JOB: Management Consultant
Clive Lunn
Philippe boosted my confidence, polished me up, and set me off in a new career direction. I
landed my dream job…in only 3 weeks.
DREAM JOB: Business Advisor
Gordon Matchett
Your simple step-by-step approach and motivation was a key factor in my success. As a result,
I landed my Dream Job in less than 8 weeks!
DREAM JOB: Inside Sales Representative
Alex Berumen
Thank you Philippe. I learnt valuable ideas and tools at your program. Moreover, I learnt
more about myself and the North American culture which was key to finding my Dream Job.
DREAM JOB: Sustainability Coordinator

The Dream Job Training Manual™
Acknowledgments
This Training Manual took two years to write. I wanted to acknowledge
everyone who participated for their help, support and inspiration, without
which this project would never have been finished.
Raymond Aaron, for being my mentor and reminding me to do what I love in my
life and for providing me with a goal achievement system to materialize my
loves through The Monthly Mentor™ program. Thank you from the bottom of
my heart. It was your Wealth Creator Source™ interview on how to write a
book that was the foundation for this entire manual. Also, thank you for your
unique and effective marketing ideas and editing skills which were vital
throughout the entire process.
Mary Landell, you are a true role model. You define what it means to be
confident and assertive and sharp and witty and always one to raise the bar.
Under your guidance and company, Landell and Associates-Career and
Employment Professionals, I was able to flourish and hone my skills. I cannot
thank you enough for this wonderful gift.
Mary Kruger, for teaching me the art of working with people and how to win
friends and influence people. You taught me about patience and honoring
myself and those around me.
Russell Garrett, you are the definition of professionalism with a huge heart. It
was with you that I first sharpened my skills as a Dream Job Advisor. It is
because of your attention to detail, focus on client needs and awareness of
developing trends in the market that I was able to grow so quickly. Thank you.
Kate Fletcher, for being the backbone of my success and for allowing me to be
myself while spending those hours together working through resumes. And I
could always laugh with you…guaranteed.
Paul Koros, you have inspired me more than you can imagine. When I first
showed you the transcript you were the first person to believe in me. Thank
you. You also provided me with invaluable editing help in refining the message
of the manual.
Lorna Goodwin, you are an angel. You always believed in me and you were the
most vocal when it came to marketing this manual. You were my personal
coach and strongest supporter. I consider myself honored to have worked side
by side in the classroom with you.
10
Norm Amundson, for your inspiration. Your powerful use of metaphors and
many books written on the subject of career counseling greatly impacted the
words found in this Training Manual.
Juli-Ann Aaron, for your patience and support. I would never have been able to
put in the time to write this manual if it were not for your support and
willingness to believe in me. Thank you for this wonderful gift.
Kon Li, you were the first person to introduce me to this line of work. With
your energy, enthusiasm and positive attitude, you light a fire under me and
founded my love and passion for this industry.

Your Training Manual covers proven core concepts that span all industries and
occupations. No matter what field you are in; from medical to financial to IT
and the arts, this technology has been, and continues to be effective.
Who Can Take Advantage of This Technology?
You will greatly benefit if you fall into one of the following categories:
• Recently out of school looking for your first job
• Out of work
• Currently working in a job you do not love
• New to the country with no local experience
• From out of town looking for local work
• Retired and looking for work to supplement your income
• Returning to the workplace after a long absence
• Fired from your last job whether you were at fault or not
• Undergoing a career change
• Poor work history with scattered jobs
• Large gaps in your resume due to illness, vacations, maternity leave etc.
The V.A.L.U.E.S. ™ Method Unveiled
The foundation of your success will be in the application of The V.A.L.U.E.S.™
Method. A method based on a practical system. A system by definition
produces consistent and predictable results every single time. Take the Solar
15
System for example. You can always guarantee that the sun will rise in the
morning. You can also always guarantee that the sun will be the hottest
between 12 pm and 1 pm. Equally, The V.A.L.U.E.S.™ Method is a system that
has been specifically designed so that you “Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks
or Less!™”. Get ready, here it is:
Vision: You always have a choice in your life - to choose to focus on obstacles
or your vision. A vision is a mental picture you paint in your mind or on paper
that depicts the way you want your Dream Job to look. When you set a goal
without linking it to your vision, your goal lacks purpose. When you link your
goals to your vision, you know “why” you are doing an action and you summon
the motivation to pursue your true desire. Like Robert Allen said: “Do what
you want most, instead of doing what you want most now!” Write down your
vision, link your goals to your vision, and watch your level of motivation soar.
Step 7-The Vision Creator™ will guide you through a powerful visioning
exercise.
Assertive: There are three ways to approach your job search:
1. Passive: Apply for advertised positions with minimal follow up
2. Aggressive: Eagerly pursuing employers possibly demonstrating desperation
3. Assertive: Communicate with positive confidence your skills and experiences
in such a way that leaves employers greatly impressed and dying to meet you.
Which approach have you been applying recently? In doing so, you will
determine if you are a job seeker or a Dream Job Seeker™. Dream Job
Seekers™ are committed to applying The Dream Job Assertive Approach™. The
reason for this is because employers want to hire assertive Dream Job
Seekers™. In doing so you have solved one of the greatest challenges
employers face – hiring good people. Make it easy for employers to want to
meet you and hire you. Apply The Dream Job Assertive Approach™ today! This
approach is built into the entire program. As you progress, you will
automatically develop your assertiveness skills.
Loves: If you want to make a difference in this world, you must do work you
love. If you are doing work you do not love you are not utilizing your greatest
talents and therefore you are wasting your time and possibly wasting your life.
Whenever someone tells me that they have been passed over for a promotion
or are not being paid what they’re worth, I always ask them a simple question.
“Do you love your work?” Often, the answer is “no”. The only way you can
make the greatest contribution in your career is if you do work you love,
contribute your gifts on a day-to-day basis, and get paid your worth. Step 1-
The Loves Catcher™ will walk you through a simple yet profound exercise that
will permanently remind you of your loves.
16
Unstoppable: When you exercise polite persistence you are unstoppable.
Employers don’t like annoying job seekers. Employers love politely persistent
Dream Job Seekers™. A common misconception about landing your Dream Job
is that you have to compete with thousands of people and push others out of
your way. Not the case. When you apply polite persistence you don’t have to
push others out of the way…because you have virtually eliminated the
competition before even getting started. Would you like to know how to do
this? Read on to find out how.
Enthusiasm: Never apply for a position unless you are enthusiastic about it.
The #1 complaint from employers is that job seekers show no enthusiasm for
their company and for the job. Dream Job Seekers™ show enthusiasm for both
the company and position. When you do this you greatly simplify the
employer’s decision as to whether to meet you and hire you. The reason for
this is because you answer the question “Do you want the job?” When you
prove this, you greatly reduce the uncertainty employers have in making a
hiring decision. Making a decision is often more about what the employer is
GIVING UP when they hire you than what they GET. When you show enthusiasm
you convince the employer that they are not giving anything up because they
are getting a motivated new member of their team. Throughout the program
you will have many opportunities to express your enthusiasm to employers.
System: The reason you do not know how to land your Dream Job is because
you don’t know the next step. What if you had a system at your fingertips that
told you what the next step was? Furthermore, a system that is so complete, it
will be your personal guide through the labor market maze. Follow the
practical steps in your Training Manual and secure your Dream Job! You have
everything you need to successfully navigate the labor market.
Keep It Simple
The less imagination and mental effort you put into your job search the more
success you will have.
If you want to “Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™”, apply The Dream
Job K.I.S. Technique - The Dream Job Keep It Simple Technique.
A famous American Governor applied this model in his campaign and credits it
as a major reason for successfully landing his Dream Job – President of the
United States. In fact, it was his campaign manager that kept reminding him to
Keep It Simple - wise words of advice for you as well.
17
Key Success Tip #1
The simpler you keep your job search,
the more success you will have.
Experience has taught me that individuals like to complicate things. Actually,
to put it more accurately, people like to expand and grow and tend to want to
make things better. Would you like me to simplify your life and remove stress?
Yes! Your Training Manual only has content that has been PROVEN to work.
Dean Childs, an internationally successful motivational speaker who talks on
the subject of wealth put it best: “I noticed there are two types of people.
One who finds a good idea and exhausts all its potential and gets rich, and the
other who comes across the same good idea, has success once, thinks they got
lucky and then tries something different and remains broke.” There is no need
to reinvent the wheel. Simply apply the technology and watch it work in your
life.
Focus On You
The reason The Dream Job K.I.S. Technique works so well when looking for
your Dream Job, is because it encourages you to focus on your greatest asset.
So my question to you is this, “What is your most important asset when it
comes to landing your Dream Job?”
Is it your interview skills, your resume, your cover letter, your negotiation
skills, and/or your follow up? Yes, these are all important, but not the MOST
important.
Your greatest asset does not lie with-out, it lies within. Your greatest asset is
YOU.
There is a great story about a best selling commercial real estate agent that I
thought you might enjoy. I heard him speak one day. He loved his work but
was not making as much money as he would like. He, like many others, was
told that if you do what you love, then the money will come. For him, and for
many others, this was not happening. (I should note here that money is not a
source of happiness but merely a handy tool to enjoy life. In any event, he and
many of you want more and so this program has been designed to deliver.) He
then learned something one day that lead to a quantum leap in his business.
The kind of leap that far outweighed the effort he was putting in. In other
words, his business increased more than 10 times. “How did you do it?”, the
audience pleaded? “Two words”, he said. “Relationships vs. Transaction”. He
went on to explain. The moment he realized he was not in the business of
selling real estate and closing on transactions by signing contracts, was the
moment he made the shift that so many of you want to make. He did it by
focusing on relationships. He did it by first getting to know people and building
18
their trust. He did it by liking people and showing it. At last count he makes
$6 million a year.
I share this story with you because embedded in the techniques is this
approach. Trust that every step incorporates a relationship approach. You just
have to follow the steps.
Key Success Tip #2
Your Training Manual will sculpt you
into a Dream Job Landing Machine™.
Drop Out Right Now, Please
Now is your last chance! If you do not want to learn life long skills that will
have your career success skyrocket, I recommend at this moment that you
email me immediately at philippedesrochers@yahoo.ca to tell me what is
holding you back.
GREAT! You stuck with me. As a reward for your perseverance, I have some
fantastic news for you.
Is This Dream Job Thing For Real?
Do you want an average relationship, or a passionate relationship? Do you want
average friends, or inspirational friends? Do you want an average child, or a
brilliant child? Would you prefer an average job or a Dream Job? When I put it
this way it is a simple choice, isn’t it? Up to this point, you may not have
thought of this sobering fact. If you want to be average get an average job. If
you want to be exceptional, then land a Dream Job. You may have even
thought that it is not possible to get a Dream Job. Society certainly doesn’t
support it nor does the school system. You can do work you love and your
Training Manual will help you get it. Let me state this for the ages: “It is
possible to earn a living doing what you love. In fact, the only way you can
have career success, is if you do work your love.” I have heard people say: “I
love doing this so much that I would do it for free.” A great mentor in my life,
Raymond Aaron, whose advice I thankfully followed years ago said this to me:
“I love doing this so much that it’s the ONLY thing I’ll do for a living.”
Success Story: Jan was a professional Carpenter. However, he had been out of
work for several months. Prior to that he tried to apply his carpentry skills in
the construction industry but found the work to lack creativity. Overall, he
was feeling very discouraged about his job search. He then decided to take
action. Using the techniques he began to think of what he loved to do…and
discovered that he loved museums. He then landed his Dream Job as a Museum
19
Displays Builder. He is overjoyed. And he even gets paid to do what he loves.
He accomplished this in only three weeks.
There are two ways of thinking about your career. The first, which is the
conventional way, is that there are not enough jobs available and you have to
compete with hundreds of other people. The second, and the one I advise you
to adopt quickly, is to choose to believe that there is little if no competition
and that Dream Jobs are everywhere. Opportunity is everywhere and you will
begin to prove this for yourself. Do yourself the greatest favor of all time, and
apply only for those jobs that inspire you to be your best. What is your Dream
Job? What type of work do you see yourself wanting to become an expert in?
What are you already an expert in? What hobbies do you most enjoy? What do
other people see you doing as a career?
In all my experience supporting Dream Job Seekers™ I have come to one
overwhelming clear fact. There is a Dream Job out there waiting for you.
Contrary to conventional thinking, it is far easier and faster to land your Dream
Job than it is to land a job you are not inspired by.
Your commitment is to land your Dream Job and make lots of money doing it.
Isn’t it? My primary commitment and passion is to support you in doing this.
You might at times be tempted to look for work that does not inspire you. The
“Dream Job Training Manual™” has been uniquely designed to hold you
accountable to making sure you get what you really want. After all, isn’t that
what you want?
Key Success Tip #3
There is a miracle inside of you that is
waiting to come out. Share your gifts
with the world!
Landing your Dream Job is your first step towards building a career that you are
proud of. I remember talking with a psychologist who referred to her practice
as “her life’s work”. Wouldn’t that be nice to feel the certainty and focus that
comes when you find your passion and mission? It all starts with your Dream
Job.
20
The Dream Job Law of Momentum™
Key Success Tip #4
Your Training Manual taps into the
powerful Dream Job Law of Momentum™
so that you land your Dream Job in
weeks which would otherwise take
years.
What is the Law of Momentum? The Law states that a body in motion takes less
energy to keep moving than a body that is at the moment standing still. What
does this have to do with helping you land your Dream Job? Think of it this
way. A cruise ship traveling in the beautiful Caribbean ocean turns off its
engines miles before arriving at port. The Law of Momentum makes this
possible. The ship has built up so much momentum that she can coast easily
and effortlessly into port without the use of her engines. Wouldn’t you like
your Dream Job search to become automatic and effortless? You can – by
applying The Dream Job Law of Momentum™. You can rest assured that the
many exercises in your Training Manual harness its amazing raw power for you.
I recently received an email from a client who took advantage of The Dream
Job Law of Momentum™ and had this to say: “I am getting so good at looking
for work that I actually think I prefer looking than working”. When you build
up your momentum you will discover that looking for your Dream Job can be
enjoyable and very productive.
Next, learn how to put your Dream Job search on auto-pilot. The key to
harnessing the magic behind this program is to first understand the market
trends that make it all possible. By laying this foundation, you will be
convinced of its value and then you will be unstoppable.

Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™
The Dream Job Training Manual™
The Hidden Dream Job Market™
Based on national statistics, in any given medium to large city, there are
roughly 20,000-40,000 jobs available. Yet, if you were to look at all the posted
ads in the newspapers and internet, how many could you find - 1000, 2000,
maybe 5000? Where can all these other positions be found?
Richard Bolles in his best selling career book “What Color is Your Parachute”
has found in his research that about 15% of all available positions are
advertised. The balance, 85%, are found in the hidden job market. In other
words, there is an incredible untapped resource of jobs that are just waiting to
be discovered - 85% worth. It’s a pot of gold just waiting for you to pick up.
But where and how can you find these jobs? The answer lies in the next
statement. Why waste your time with the conventional hidden job market
when you can focus your attention on the far more fertile soil…The Hidden
Dream Job Market™.
The Hidden Dream Job Market™ is a far simpler market to tap into and is
defined as unadvertised positions that you consider to be a potential Dream
Job.
While the conventional hidden job market includes all jobs, The Hidden Dream
Job Market™ only includes your Dream Jobs. The Dream Job Law of Focus™
states that the more focus you have in your search the more success you will
have in landing your Dream Job.
When you apply the techniques found in your Training Manual you uncover
Dream Jobs that are just waiting to be discovered. Even more amazingly, you
can actually create your own Dream Job where one does not exist yet. In a
recent poll, senior executives were asked what they would do if they were
approached by a qualified individual when they did not have an opening
available. An astounding 90% said they would create a new position for you.
Success Story: Carl was looking for work in the field of marketing and had
come up with several options. The problem was…he wasn’t enthusiastic about
his options. When asked what his Dream Job was he said: “A Dream Job is not
realistic.” When asked again he revealed that in fact he would love to work for
a world famous marketer in San Francisco who was renowned for developing
new retail store concepts. He greatly admired this woman, who was the
creative genius behind the company. He then admitted that he had looked for
postings and job opportunities on the internet and found none for this firm. He
gave up. He then learned that companies often invent opportunities. He
applied the correct principles in this manual and to his amazement she wanted
22
to meet him. She admitted having no opportunity for him but liked his
enthusiasm for the work and company and decided to negotiate with him to
develop his own new position. He then landed his Dream Job as a Marketing
Intern. The firm had thought of hiring an intern but did not know how to go
about doing it. The fact that he approached them helped the firm fill a need
and took his career to the next level.
How To Tap Into The Hidden Dream Job Market™
On the next page is a comparison between the order in which a typical job
seeker looks for work, and the way an employer looks to fill positions - (1.)
being the most favored approach and (5.) being the least favored.1
Job Seeker Employer
1. Ad 1. Network inside department
2. Recruiter 2. Network inside company
3. Network outside company 3. Network outside company
4. Network inside company 4. Recruiter
5. Network inside department 5. Ad
What do you notice when you compare the two? Notice that the job seeker
looks for employers the complete opposite way that employers look for job
seekers. If you want to land work you love quickly, then make it a habit to be
where the employer is looking. Start by networking inside the company
department, then the company, then general networking, and finally using
recruiters and ads.
What you might not know is that employers are always looking for good people.
Often their search ends before they advertise for a position. The reason for
this is because employers much prefer to fill positions without having to post
an advertisement. In fact, an employer will do everything in their power to fill
a position before having to advertise for it. The moment an employer decides
to advertise a position the entire procedure can take between 8-12 weeks and
cost between $500-$5000. With %98 of all companies being small businesses,
they can’t afford to be spending this money. Typically, there is a three month
period where an employment opportunity exists before a company is forced to
advertise. Approach companies during this three month period and you will be
amazed to discover an untapped gold mine waiting to be discovered.
You might be thinking that all companies anticipate staff needs and plan
ahead. Here are the facts. Over 60% of companies do not have a Human
Resources strategy-which means that over half the companies in your city do
not plan ahead when it comes to staffing needs. What these companies need is
for you to help them with their staffing needs. Your Training Manual has been
designed to help you do this. And if this is not enough encouragement for you
to get moving, a recent poll of companies uncovered that over 50% of
23
companies at any given time actually have current openings. What are you
waiting for? They are ripe for the picking.
The Four Opportunity Factors™
All companies are at the mercy of The Four Opportunity Factors™ - factors that
are constantly creating havoc and change in companies…and opportunities for
you. Here they are:
Cyclical: economy
Structural: company
Frictional: people
Seasonal: time of year
Cyclical: The economy is constantly expanding and contracting. Interest rates
are going up and down. Consumer spending goes up and down. Every single
time economic indicators suggest a shift, companies respond accordingly. The
good news for you is that when these indicators are strong it means that there
are more positions available than candidates. Good news for you. Even more
interestingly, during economic downturns, companies need to become more
productive and often replace inefficient workers with efficient ones. More
good news.
Structural: Regardless of economic impacts, companies themselves go through
changes. Roughly 80% of new businesses fail in the first two years and
therefore there are always new companies in the market, which means
opportunity for you. Interestingly, even companies that go into receivership
often need the help of highly qualified individuals to help them overcome
obstacles. I particularly remember hearing of a prominent company that made
the front page of the newspaper for several days because it was going
bankrupt. At first glance, it would appear that no opportunities existed.
However, the company was bought by new owners who repositioned the
company and went on a hiring spree. Those individuals who approached the
company during the difficult times had first crack at their Dream Job in the
company.
Frictional: Just as in personal relationships, business relationships are built and
terminated each and every single day. This has a huge impact on the labor
market. New positions become available every day as a result of the natural
process of the forming and ending of human relationships. The factors that
impact these relationships are as varied as there are people. Some reasons why
people leave their jobs are: It is not their Dream Job, they want more of a
challenge, they don’t get along with their boss or coworker, they move out of
the country, they change careers, and they retire. Do you know anyone in your
life that changed jobs for these or any other reasons?
24
Here is another way to look at Frictional change.
Imagine your number one goal in life was to find your one true love and you
found yourself on a remote island with 10 couples. You dearly wish you could
be in a loving relationship, but everyone else is taken. At first glance it might
appear hopeless and pointless. But remember, there is constant change in
relationships. Relationships are either expanding or contracting. Therefore,
one couple might have a dispute over a coconut or the way the bamboo sofa
should be placed-resulting in a break up of the relationship. The relationships
on the island and the companies that make up the economy are in constant
movement. Movement means opportunity for you.
Seasonal: Finally, there is the impact of seasons on the labor market. There
are periods during the year where more work opportunities exist than others.
They are during the summer, or winter months or holiday seasons. What you
might not consider, is that often these temporary opportunities are a fantastic
way to get your foot in the door, impress your boss and land your Dream Job
within the very same company.
Success Story: Jim, a Software Developer, accepted a low paying job for Wal-
Mart in the Electronics Department during the Christmas season. His friends
thought he was selling himself short, but he knew something his friends did
not. He learned and applied the technology found in these pages. What
happened? Within three weeks he was offered a position at Head Office as a
Software Developer…his Dream Job.
Next, apply the simple process in Step 1 and identify the loves you have in
many areas of your life. When you do this, you will identify patterns which will
begin to point you in the direction of your Dream Job. It’s called The Loves
Catcher™. Enjoy!
25
Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™
The Dream Job Training Manual™
Step 1: The Loves Catcher™
There is no question that if you want to excel at what you do, you must do
what you love. Very rarely do you have an opportunity to do an inventory of
the activities you love to do in several areas of your life.
Physically, you have a unique heartbeat. You also have a unique thumbprint,
retina pattern and voice. In fact, your heart beats in a slightly different
pattern than anyone else’s in the world. As such, you have been given a
unique emotional “heartbeat” that races when you think of subjects and
activities that catch your interest. You instinctively care about some things
and not others. These are clues to where you should be serving.
When you were growing up you may have found out that you were very
interested in some subjects that no one else you knew cared about. Where did
these interests come from? You were born with them. Another word for these
interests is passion.
For example, as a child you may have loved playing video games, writing in
your journal, and riding your bike. You may have loved talking, cutting the
grass and swimming. You may have showed a particular interest at school in
chemistry, or math, or art or drama. These are extremely powerful indicators
of your passions that are with you for your entire life.
How do you actually know if you are using your gifts? The first sign is
enthusiasm. When you are doing what you love no one has to motivate you or
challenge you. When you are doing something other than a passion, then you
are easily discouraged.
The second way you can actually tell if you are using your gifts, is if you are
effective in what you are doing. Whenever you are doing what you love, you
naturally get good at it.
Another way to tell when you are following your hearts desire is when you lose
track of time. It’s when you have just spent 3 hours doing an activity and you
say to yourself: “Boy, does time fly!” Or you just simply forget to eat because
you are so consumed by excitement.
Finally, when you do what you love, the huge benefit to you is that you never
procrastinate!
Think of the hobbies you do? Think of the thoughts that keep you up at night?
Think about the stores you like to shop at? Think about the TV shows you
26
watch? What articles do you read in the newspaper? What courses did you
enjoy at school?
You will never shine in this world and make a lasting contribution if you are
average at what you do. Your life will be full of struggle if you lack passion
and love for the tasks you perform on an ongoing basis. You can be an expert,
provided you love your work. The key is to pay attention to what inspires and
motivates you. It’s free fuel. Yours for the taking, with unlimited capacity.
Key Success Tip #5
The more you do what you love in your
life, the more success you will have
with the least amount of effort.
This exercise will get you into the frame of mind of knowing what you love to
do so that you can eventually communicate it to others in such a way that
leaves employers inspired by your clarity and sense of purpose.
Complete this exercise, and then learn how to identify your work values with
laser type focus and massively simplify your decision making process to produce
results fast. It’s called The Work Values Identifier™ - designed specifically to
identify the kind of company you would be happy to work for.

Step 2: The Work Values Identifier™
Knowing what you want is one of the most important aspects of landing your
Dream Job. When clarity and focus are present you are far more likely to be
motivated during your Dream Job search.
Values are defined as your judgment of what is valuable and important in your
life.
Sometimes, when looking for your Dream Job you forget that you have a choice
in working for the kind of company that reflects your work values. This
exercise will help you identify what is important to you and support you in
applying for positions that only match your work values. As such, when you
identify your work values you will be far more successful in landing your Dream
Job in 12 weeks or less!
This exercise of identifying your work values is designed to reduce your anxiety
around making a decision regarding which companies to approach. If you are
motivated to work for and/or with someone then you are far more likely to
excel. This exercise will also dramatically contribute to an increased level of
genuine enthusiasm towards your search.
I remember speaking with a Human Resources Recruiter who was very
discouraged in her work. Her job entailed interviewing people all day to place
them in vacant positions. She was particularly disappointed with the lack of
enthusiasm candidates where demonstrating on the phone and in the interview
when applying for work. She was so uninspired by applicants, that she was
thinking of quitting her job. Her advice to Dream Job Seekers™ is to “get
noticed by showing some enthusiasm.”
Think of it this way. If you want to impress someone on a first date, you must
show particular interest in that person. Show interest and enthusiasm for the
person and company you are interviewing with and you will be in a great
position to influence them to hire you.
Key Success Tip #6
Use The Dream Job Values Identifier™
and watch your enthusiasm levels
dramatically increase.
30
Complete this exercise, and then learn how identifying your skills and
attributes can provide you with the powerful language that leaves employers
begging for more. It is called The Transferable Skills Summarizer™ and The
Attributes Summarizer™-your ally in learning about the keywords employers
want to hear and rarely hear from other job seekers. Use them and instantly
make a lasting impression.

Step 4: The Attributes Summarizer™
The Dream Job Keywords™
This exercise is designed to support you to:
• Identify the skills & attributes you are aware of and those you are not
• Provide you with The Dream Job Keywords™ to use in your marketing pieces
to leave a lasting impression on employers
These keywords are used to add a laser type focus to your networking, resume,
cover letter, phone script, interviews and follow up.
In essence, you are building your job search toolbox. If you have all the
necessary tools in your box you will be far more confident in offering your skills
and abilities to others.
Think of it this way. You are building the foundation of your home. The
stronger the base, the more confident you are that it will withstand bad
weather and natural disasters. If you do not have much confidence, then you
will leave at the first sight of a challenge. Same goes in landing your Dream
Job. When you are confident in your presentation to employers, you will be far
more likely to successfully deal with the unexpected and land your Dream Job.
Definition of a Skill: Learned
behavior
Definition of an Attribute: Innate
behavior
Your transferable skills are those skills
you take from job to job. Along with
your experience, they are your
greatest assets in landing your Dream
Job quickly. As soon as you identify
your skills and communicate them in a
clear and concise manner, the faster
you will have employers knocking at
your door. (I.e. leadership, problem
solving)
Your attributes are the personality
traits that you possess. These
attributes typically are innate - you
have always been that way. You can
also call them qualities. (I.e. Reliable,
calm, assertive)
The purpose of this exercise is to have you develop the kind of vocabulary that
leaves your readers and listeners climbing over each other desperate to meet
you. You can do so by using specific words that address the most important
needs of employers.

Step 5: The Strength Generator™
The biggest complaint employers have about average job seekers, is that after
speaking to them during a networking event or an interview, employers still
have no idea what they did on the job. How can an employer make an
informed decision about deciding to hire you, if they don’t understand the
work you did? The best and easier way for you to remedy this problem is to
give employers exactly what they want - clear examples from your past that
demonstrate your use of the skills required to perform your Dream Job. It is
that simple. Always remember this key point:
Key Success Tip #8
Past performance predicts future
behavior.
By explaining your past performances, you are giving the employer the
opportunity to trust you. Employers take on a very large risk when they decide
to hire you. The best way they can develop trust in you is by getting to know
you and identifying whether you have the skills and attitudes to do the work.
You see, when you don’t give clear examples of your past performance you are
in essence sending the message that you are hiding something. Employers
would rather wait months to find the right fit than hire someone that possesses
a risk. Essentially, employers just want to reduce the risks involved in hiring
you. The best way an employer can do this is by understanding your past
performance to predict your future performance. In fact, going in an interview
without examples of your past performance is like walking into an exam and
not having studied. You guarantee failure when you do this.
Would you ever invest your money in a business without looking at its past
performance? Equally, an employer will never hire you if they don’t have a
clear understanding of your past performance.
Key Success Tip #9
In order to convince others of your
ability to complete a task you must
prove your skills. The best way to
prove your skills is to give an example
of your work in the past.
40
It is quite common for an employer to interview a candidate for one hour and
still have no idea the kind of work he/she did in the past. They simply can’t
picture in their mind what you did on the job.
An added bonus for using examples is that they help others remember you.
When being interviewed, you want to stand out from the rest. The greatest
way you can do so, is by painting a mental picture for the employer about the
work you have done in the past. Always remember, that “a picture is worth a
thousand words”. Paint that picture using examples of your past work
performances.
Complete this exercise, and then use The Dream Job Simplifier™ to actually
identify the type of work you would like to consider. Be flexible in your
selection and trust that your choices are based on your loves. This is only the
beginning and be patient with yourself.

Step 6: The Dream Job Simplifier™
This exercise has been specifically designed to take you through a three step
process that creates awareness for you. It is a practical approach to landing
your Dream Job. By selecting the reasons for your choice you will begin to
notice unmistakable patterns. These patterns are so powerful in the
attainment of your Dream Job that they are based on a law.
The Dream Job Law of Patterns™
The patterns you become aware of will be your roadmap in guiding you towards
your Dream Job. You may think that you do not know the kind of work you
would love to do - but you do. You have gotten really good at telling yourself
that it is not possible to have a job you love. Some of you are professionals in
telling yourself what is NOT possible. Some of the best excuses I hear is: “If I
did work I loved, I would never make enough money.” or “I don’t know what I
love to do.” You already know what you love.
Key Success Tip #10
There comes a time in your life where
you have to believe more in what you
don’t see than what you do see. It is
called faith. Have faith in yourself.
The following is a true story about a woman who always knew what she loved
to do and one day decided to share her gifts with the world and earn a living
doing so. She is a client of The Monthly Mentor™ program through Raymond
Aaron.
Success Story: Marg was stuck in a career rut. She decided to do only what
she loved. She knew that she loved filling in contest entry forms. Marg quit
her job and decided to spend her time filling in contest entry forms. Her
husband was completely against it. In her first year she won a car, several
trips and $20,000 in cash. Her friends started noticing that she was winning
and asked her to fill in contest entry forms for them. She did so and charged
each person $50 per month. With a large network of friends she capped the
number of clients at 200 friends. She earns $10,000 per month doing what she
loved. More than her husband ever made. He now works for her.
44
Think of Marg every time you find yourself limiting your thoughts to how you
can contribute your skills to the world and earn quite a nice living doing so.
Your Dream Job may mean that you become a consultant or self employed
contractor. Whatever it looks like, it may not be what you thought it would
be. Be flexible and listen to what your instincts tell you.
So far, you have learned how to identify your loves, work values, skills and
attributes, and working examples from your past. Now you have a better
understanding of the kind of work you want to do, and the specific skills you
enjoy using. Complete this exercise, and then take the opportunity to create
your own personal vision. In harnessing the power of The Vision Creator™ you
paint a clear picture of the kind of work life you want – allowing you to live an
intentional life where you have freedom. What are you waiting for? Go to it!

The Dream Job Training Manual™
Step 7: The Vision Creator™
By visualizing and setting action steps, you are setting an intentional life. In
doing so, you are taking full control of your life and you can be the person you
always wanted to be.
This approach is called structural tension. It is designed to anchor you in the
future as apposed to pulling you back from your past. When you paint a clear
picture of what you want and you rate yourself where you are in relation to
that vision on a scale of 1-10, you clearly see the gaps and the solutions to
achieving your goals come automatically for you. You then identify the action
steps you know you need to do to move towards your vision.
Success Story: Personally, for years I tried setting a goal of loosing a certain
amount of weight by a certain date. It never worked. For six straight years I
tried…and for six straight years I was always gaining weight. Then I discovered
The Vision Creator™. I first set a vision of being clean, light, flexible and
strong. I rated myself a 3/10 in that department because of my very poor
eating habits. I put in place processes that would help me loose the weight.
However, my biggest worry was overcoming the powerful craving to consume
unhealthy food. To my complete amazement, my vision, which anchored me in
the future as opposed to where I was, was like a beacon of light that guided me
to safety. It worked like magic. I lost 40 pounds in 4 months. That was two
years ago…and I have kept off the weight ever since.
The key distinction here is that you cannot set effective goals unless you know
where you are headed. Simply setting a goal lacks the pull towards a higher
vision, a purpose if you will. When you anchor yourself to your vision, and then
set goals to take you there, you are able to summon the motivation required to
achieve any goal…and in this case, your Dream Job. This makes you
unstoppable.
Think of a suspension bridge. The anchoring of the bridge on the other side is
your vision. The steps you take to cross the bridge are your goals. When you
fail to set a vision you are not anchoring your bridge to the other side-making it
impossible to cross. You are doomed to fail. Anchor your bridge by setting
your vision and enjoy the fun ride and sights as you cross safely.
Complete this exercise, and then learn how to set action steps, or goals, so
that you have the road map to guide you towards achieving your ultimate goal
of landing your Dream Job in 12 weeks or less! The Goal Achievement
Formula™ is a seven step process that ensures your goals have the strength to

Step 7: Exercise
Take time to look ahead into your future. Picture in your mind that everything
has worked out for you, and you are successful in your career. Imagine that
you have reached your career goal. Describe, in the present tense, what you
are experiencing. Begin your sentences with “I am…”, “I have…”, “I know…”
and/or “I let…” under the Vision column (i.e. I am a working with a great
team…I am outside all day…I am making $200,000)
Then rate on a scale of 1-10 where you are in relation to realizing this vision as
of today - where 1 means not even begun and 10 being realized.

Step 8: The Goal Achievement Formula™
Set your daily goals in the morning and review them at the end of each day. In
2004 and 2005 1-800-Got-Junk, North America’s largest junk removal service
won the “Best Employer” award. They are famous for using GS & R (Goal
Setting & Review). Get in the habit every day of setting your goals that are in
line with your vision and review them at the end of the day.
When you write down your goals you have a far greater chance of attaining
them. Raymond Aaron, creator of The Monthly Mentor™ and an expert in goal
achievement, has supported thousands of people in reaching their goals. He
discovered that when you write down your goals on a regular basis using an
effective system, you actually achieve some goals effortlessly. As a result, he
invented the word “automagically”-the phenomenon that occurs when your
goals achieve themselves effortlessly.
Key Success Tip #11
Write down your goals using The Goal
Achievement Formula™. You just
might “automagically” land your
Dream Job.
Tom Hopkins, in his famous book “The Art of Selling”, states that when you are
engaged in offering a product or service it is important that your goals be:
• In line with your vision
• Action items and not results
He states that if you link your goals with your vision you will be more motivated
to do whatever it takes to reach for success. He goes on to state that if you
focus on results, and you do not achieve them, you are disappointed. But if
you focus on action, the results will automatically follow. For example, if you
focus on booking two interviews per week and you are unsuccessful, then you
feel disappointed. But, when you focus on making 5 calls per day, the results
will automatically follow. The key is to focus on action items.
54
Key Success Tip #12
When you focus on your actions you
have a greater sense of control over
your Dream Job search. And when you
feel control, you have more confidence
in yourself and your ability to inspire
employers to meet and hire you
dramatically increases.
Only when you are feeling confident in your abilities to perform action steps
can you then graduate to setting results goals. (I.e. booking two interviews)
Use this technology and watch how your goals take you to levels of success you
never thought possible.
Complete this exercise, and then embark on the most important step in landing
your Dream Job. Up until now you have built your foundation. Now it is time
to start building your home. Step 9 is key to your success because it is the first
practical action step towards landing your Dream Job. The Dream Job Leads

The Dream Job Training Manual™
Step 9: The Dream Job Leads Generator™
The Dream Job Law of Randomness™
There are only two ways to tap into The Hidden Dream Job Market™ - a market
where 85% of the jobs you are looking for can be found. The first is networking
(see Step 13-The Dream Job Network Accelerator™), which you will be looking
at later on. The second is to produce a list of companies to contact. To fully
tap into The Hidden Dream Job Market™ you must use The Dream Job Leads
Generator™.
Your list will also be an invaluable tool in helping you stay organized and
remain focused on the companies you need to contact.
From a statistical standpoint, in order to have sufficient leads to land your
Dream Job, a list of 100 companies is required. This number will be sufficient
to support all your Dream Job search activities. Your list will be your
foundation of confidence as you contact companies that potentially have
employment opportunities.
Please make an important mental note. There is an effective and ineffective
way of developing your list. Before I tell you the answer, I want you to have an
open mind. Trust that what I am going to share with you has worked for others
and can work for you.
Ineffective Way: Spend 30 minutes to an hour of research for each company
you add to your leads list.
Effective Way: Spend NO MORE than 4 minutes per lead before adding it to
your leads list
There is a level of randomness you better start getting comfortable with when
it comes to landing your Dream Job. It’s called The Dream Job Law of
Randomness™. You see, you know what companies you want to work for, and
you know which ones you don’t want to work for. But isn’t it possible that
there is a company out there that you don’t know about that just might be
launching a new product or lost their best staff member that you don’t know
about? And if there might be one, might there be more than one?
Success Story: Mary had been conducting her job search on her own and found
no results. During her independent job search she had developed her own
leads list. After investing in this program, I instructed her to complete The
58
Dream Job Leads Generator™. She did not feel it was necessary as she already
had a list. In fact, she was quite resistant to the whole ideas of re-doing a list
she had already done. I asked her to trust me and follow the instructions. The
results were almost instant. After doing the exercise she realized that she had
completely left out opportunities that were hers for the taking. She was so
grateful that she wanted me to inform all of my clients of her success so that
she could encourage them. She not only inspired herself but also those around
her. What were her results? With months of no interviews with her old list,
she, in a one hour period, managed to speak to seven Decision Makers that
wanted to see her resume. She was very grateful and said she would “never
doubt the process again.”
I share this story with you because I understand you might be resistant. You
feel you have to do all this research. Save your extensive research until after
you book the interview. There is a time and place for research…it just isn’t
now.
I can explain it another way. Are you in a relationship or have you ever been in
a relationship? Think about the type of person you thought you would be with
when you were younger. Think of what you thought they would look like and
the type of work they would be doing. Now, look at your current partner or
most recent partner if you are single. Does this person match your original
description? Based on the multitude of polls that I have conducted in this
arena, the answer was probably not. Aren’t you lucky for being open and
flexible enough to meet someone you love? Yes. Same goes with your career.
There is a company out there that you don’t know about that is most likely the
company that has your Dream Job waiting for you. The moral of the story is to
be flexible when approaching companies.
Success Story: To test the effectiveness of a professional stock broker, a
newspaper editor decided to have a little contest. The goal of the game was to
pick ten stocks in a portfolio at the beginning of the year. At the end of the
year the person whose portfolio had the greatest gain would win.
The Investment Advisor with all his financial aptitudes and market awareness
did his research and made his selections.
The editor of the paper, with no experience in finance decided to put the
finance section of the paper on a dart board and throw ten darts at the paper.
The 10 company names he hit with the darts made up his stock portfolio.
One year later, the stock broker and dart shooting editor compared the
performance of their portfolio. The editor won by 1%.
What can you conclude from this true story? There is a level of randomness in
landing your Dream Job.

Key Success Tip 13#
The Leads Generator™ works because it
forces you to tap into The Dream Job
Law of Randomness™.
Furthermore, the trick in landing your Dream Job in 12 weeks or less is by
putting the company on your leads list, and only once you have landed the
interview do you worry about extensive research. Of course, once you book
the interview, then you learn as much as possible about the company.
Congratulations! You have come this far. You have successfully worked
through half your Training Manual and you are well on your way to landing your
Dream Job. The next exercise will take you one step closer to freedom.
Complete this exercise, and then use The Decision Maker Selector™ to identify
the company Decision Maker who will be your greatest advocate and the one
who will eventually hire you.

Step 10: The Decision Maker Selector™
The next statement is so startling that I had to develop a law to explain this
incredible phenomenon. In all my years booking interviews with company
Decision Makers and in teaching individuals how to do the same, I have come to
one clear conclusion: The higher you go in the company, the easier it is to
reach the person and the more success you will have in booking an interview. I
call it The Dream Job Law of Gravity™. Hiring decisions are made as you move
up the corporate hierarchy, so aim to be interviewed by the person in charge of
the department you want work. The best news of all is that the higher you go
the more polite and professional they are.
Always remember that there are two types of people that work for companies -
the person who is worried about their job and the person who is worried about
building a strong team around them. Who do you want to talk to? You got it.
Stick with the Decision Maker and the higher the better.
Even more interestingly, like gravity, your call or resume will be referred down
the company, much easier than it will going up. Start at the top, and be
amazed at how much attention your application is given.
Key Success Tip #14
The Dream Job Law of Gravity™ states
that your resume will float down
organizational hierarchies easier than
they rise.
Picture yourself at the top of a 10 story building holding a copy of your resume.
Does it take less energy to throw your resumes down 10 stories or up 10 stories?
Of course, by taking advantage of the law of gravity you simply let go of your
resume. You too can take advantage of the law of gravity in landing your
Dream Job. Always remember: a resume travels down a company hierarchy far
easier than up. I leave the choice up to you.
What About Human Resources?
Human Resources primary purpose is to review resumes and weed out
applicants that do not fit the needs of the company. Those that qualify are
then passed on to the Decision Maker. I have seen some of the best talent get
missed by Human Resources because they are so busy. They have an entire
company to worry about. Why not talk to the person who has only a
62
department to worry about. And after all, the final decision to hire you lies
with the Decision Maker.
Success Story: Some of the largest investment banks in the world approach
McGill Business School to lure some of the best talent in the world. Companies
such as Solomon Smith Barney, Goldman Sax, JP Morgan, and Credit Suisse First
Boston were looking to fill their Junior Analyst Positions. A Finance graduate
from the university who graduated in the top 15% of his class having already
completed a summer internship in investment banking applied using the
conventional methods, through Human Resources. The result: He didn’t even
land one interview. Not even a phone call…but lots of “Thanks But No Thanks”
letters. As a joke, he even began collecting them and hanging them on his
wall. Then, he learned to apply these techniques and shifted his attention
from Human Resources to the Decision Makers. He took advantage of The
Dream Job Law of Gravity™ and within less than four weeks had several
interviews lined up and finally two job offers from none other than Solomon
Smith Barney and Credit Suisse First Boston. He accepted Credit Suisse’s offer
and learned a valuable lesson. Call the Decision Maker first. Only if referred
internally or externally do you speak to Human Resources.
Success Story: Aviation is known for having lots of full time pilots vying for
flight line jobs without having enough hours to qualify. But airlines are at
times desperate for pilots and hire candidates that do not meet the minimum
stated in the required qualifications. When Human Resources rejects all
applications that don’t meet minimum requirements, how do they hire one?
Easy…the Decision Maker said to. A Senior Pilot once brought his best friends
daughter, a low time (yet fully certified) pilot that didn’t meet minimum
posted requirements into the Chief Pilots office. Brian, the Chief Pilot said: “I
don’t have the time now-take her down to Ms. McMurray in HR”. The Senior
Pilot and candidate then walked straight into Ms. McMurray’s office and the
Senior Pilot said to her: “Brian wanted you to meet Ashley.” There was a stack
of resumes two feet high on her desk of candidates no better qualified than
Ashley. Ms McMurray said: “If Brian wants me to meet you, I’ve got a few
minutes to talk.” At which point the Senior Pilot said: “You are on your own
now-good luck”. Ms McMurray and Ashley talked for 15 minutes as a first
interview. She was hired in the next intake three weeks later. Even if the
Decision Maker sends you to HR, you haven’t lost anything-you just landed
yourself on the VIP line up to see them. Contact the Decision Maker!

Step 10: Exercise
The Decision Maker is the person that will be able to make a decision about
hiring you. The Decision Maker is not Human Resources. Below, write down the
title of the Decision Maker that you would like to talk to in your field. (I.e. IT
Manager, Comptroller, V.P. Operations).
Mandatory Action: Identify the Decision Maker in the company. Only go to
Human Resources if referred.
Small company (person’s title): _______________________________________
Medium company (person’s title): _____________________________________
Large company (person’s title): ______________________________________
Private companies usually have the following hierarchy:
CEO/President
CFO/CIO/COO
Vice President
Director
Manager
Supervisor
Not-for-profit companies usually have the following hierarchy:
Executive Director
Managing Director
Program Manager
Note: If you are an Accountant you will want to speak to the Accounting
Manager. If you are a Financial Analyst you will want to speak to the Finance
Manager. If you are looking for work in customer service you will want to speak
to the Customer Service Manager. Simply place the work you do and then place
the title after such as manager or director. If no title exists for the type of
work you want to do then the Decision Maker you want to speak to is “the
person in charge of collections” for example.

Step 11: The Dream Job Secret Weapon™
What is an Information Meeting?: An opportunity for you to network with
industry leaders and learn how your skills match with the industry and possibly
the company.
When is an Information Meeting NOT?: It is not a disguised way for you to ask
for a Dream Job. If you do this, you run the risk of aggravating the employer
and ruining your chances of ever landing work with them.
Key Success Tip #15
Always be prepared for an Information
Meeting to be turned into an
Employment Interview by the
employer.
Success Story: Gary went on an Information Meeting. He was new to the
country and an Accountant in his home country. He wanted to make contact
with local employers and also find out where he could apply his skills. During
his first information meeting, he was asked if he had any supervisory
experience. Having said “yes”, the information meeting turned into an
employment interview and he got the job. What was most interesting is that
he was convinced he could never land supervisory work as his first job in the
country. But he did…all because of his willingness to network with employers
through an information meeting. In addition, he accepted an offer which was
$15,000 higher than his expectations. Well done Gary!
Information Meeting calls are a wonderful introduction to learning rewarding
phone skills. Information Meetings are also one of the most effective job
search tools you can use when it comes to tapping into The Hidden Dream Job
Market™. They are effective tools to networking and understanding what your
industry is doing and to introduce yourself to employers.
The beauty of this type of meeting is that you, The Dream Job Seeker™, gets to
ask all the questions. You have complete control of the interview and you find
out what you want to know. Below is a sample of some of the questions you
can ask an employer when conducting an Information Meeting:
Dream Job Information Meeting Questions:
 What do you suggest for someone who wants to do this work?
66
 What are the drawbacks of this occupation?
 What qualities do you look for in new employees?
 Could you describe a typical day?
 Is there anything else I need to know?
 What is the salary range?
 What trade journals/websites do you need to keep informed of in this
industry?
 Given that I am (new to the area, re-entering the workplace, changing
careers), are there any new developments I should be aware of?
 How frequently do you hire from the minimum requirements listed in job
ads? What requirements do you forego?
 What are your top complaints of current applicants
Key Success Tip #16
Once you have conducted your
Information Meeting you can follow up
two days later and express an interest
in joining the company.
Complete this exercise, and then take your Dream Job search skills to the next

  • 9. 9 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Acknowledgments This Training Manual took two years to write. I wanted to acknowledge everyone who participated for their help, support and inspiration, without which this project would never have been finished. Raymond Aaron, for being my mentor and reminding me to do what I love in my life and for providing me with a goal achievement system to materialize my loves through The Monthly Mentor™ program. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was your Wealth Creator Source™ interview on how to write a book that was the foundation for this entire manual. Also, thank you for your unique and effective marketing ideas and editing skills which were vital throughout the entire process. Mary Landell, you are a true role model. You define what it means to be confident and assertive and sharp and witty and always one to raise the bar. Under your guidance and company, Landell and Associates-Career and Employment Professionals, I was able to flourish and hone my skills. I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful gift. Mary Kruger, for teaching me the art of working with people and how to win friends and influence people. You taught me about patience and honoring myself and those around me. Russell Garrett, you are the definition of professionalism with a huge heart. It was with you that I first sharpened my skills as a Dream Job Advisor. It is because of your attention to detail, focus on client needs and awareness of developing trends in the market that I was able to grow so quickly. Thank you. Kate Fletcher, for being the backbone of my success and for allowing me to be myself while spending those hours together working through resumes. And I could always laugh with you…guaranteed. Paul Koros, you have inspired me more than you can imagine. When I first showed you the transcript you were the first person to believe in me. Thank you. You also provided me with invaluable editing help in refining the message of the manual. Lorna Goodwin, you are an angel. You always believed in me and you were the most vocal when it came to marketing this manual. You were my personal coach and strongest supporter. I consider myself honored to have worked side by side in the classroom with you.
  • 10. 10 Norm Amundson, for your inspiration. Your powerful use of metaphors and many books written on the subject of career counseling greatly impacted the words found in this Training Manual. Juli-Ann Aaron, for your patience and support. I would never have been able to put in the time to write this manual if it were not for your support and willingness to believe in me. Thank you for this wonderful gift. Kon Li, you were the first person to introduce me to this line of work. With your energy, enthusiasm and positive attitude, you light a fire under me and founded my love and passion for this industry.

You will greatly benefit if you fall into one of the following categories: • Recently out of school looking for your first job • Out of work • Currently working in a job you do not love • New to the country with no local experience • From out of town looking for local work • Retired and looking for work to supplement your income • Returning to the workplace after a long absence • Fired from your last job whether you were at fault or not • Undergoing a career change • Poor work history with scattered jobs • Large gaps in your resume due to illness, vacations, maternity leave etc. The V.A.L.U.E.S. ™ Method Unveiled The foundation of your success will be in the application of The V.A.L.U.E.S.™ Method. A method based on a practical system. A system by definition produces consistent and predictable results every single time. Take the Solar
  • 15. 15 System for example. You can always guarantee that the sun will rise in the morning. You can also always guarantee that the sun will be the hottest between 12 pm and 1 pm. Equally, The V.A.L.U.E.S.™ Method is a system that has been specifically designed so that you “Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™”. Get ready, here it is: Vision: You always have a choice in your life - to choose to focus on obstacles or your vision. A vision is a mental picture you paint in your mind or on paper that depicts the way you want your Dream Job to look. When you set a goal without linking it to your vision, your goal lacks purpose. When you link your goals to your vision, you know “why” you are doing an action and you summon the motivation to pursue your true desire. Like Robert Allen said: “Do what you want most, instead of doing what you want most now!” Write down your vision, link your goals to your vision, and watch your level of motivation soar. Step 7-The Vision Creator™ will guide you through a powerful visioning exercise. Assertive: There are three ways to approach your job search: 1. Passive: Apply for advertised positions with minimal follow up 2. Aggressive: Eagerly pursuing employers possibly demonstrating desperation 3. Assertive: Communicate with positive confidence your skills and experiences in such a way that leaves employers greatly impressed and dying to meet you. Which approach have you been applying recently? In doing so, you will determine if you are a job seeker or a Dream Job Seeker™. Dream Job Seekers™ are committed to applying The Dream Job Assertive Approach™. The reason for this is because employers want to hire assertive Dream Job Seekers™. In doing so you have solved one of the greatest challenges employers face – hiring good people. Make it easy for employers to want to meet you and hire you. Apply The Dream Job Assertive Approach™ today! This approach is built into the entire program. As you progress, you will automatically develop your assertiveness skills. Loves: If you want to make a difference in this world, you must do work you love. If you are doing work you do not love you are not utilizing your greatest talents and therefore you are wasting your time and possibly wasting your life. Whenever someone tells me that they have been passed over for a promotion or are not being paid what they’re worth, I always ask them a simple question. “Do you love your work?” Often, the answer is “no”. The only way you can make the greatest contribution in your career is if you do work you love, contribute your gifts on a day-to-day basis, and get paid your worth. Step 1- The Loves Catcher™ will walk you through a simple yet profound exercise that will permanently remind you of your loves.
  • 16. 16 Unstoppable: When you exercise polite persistence you are unstoppable. Employers don’t like annoying job seekers. Employers love politely persistent Dream Job Seekers™. A common misconception about landing your Dream Job is that you have to compete with thousands of people and push others out of your way. Not the case. When you apply polite persistence you don’t have to push others out of the way…because you have virtually eliminated the competition before even getting started. Would you like to know how to do this? Read on to find out how. Enthusiasm: Never apply for a position unless you are enthusiastic about it. The #1 complaint from employers is that job seekers show no enthusiasm for their company and for the job. Dream Job Seekers™ show enthusiasm for both the company and position. When you do this you greatly simplify the employer’s decision as to whether to meet you and hire you. The reason for this is because you answer the question “Do you want the job?” When you prove this, you greatly reduce the uncertainty employers have in making a hiring decision. Making a decision is often more about what the employer is GIVING UP when they hire you than what they GET. When you show enthusiasm you convince the employer that they are not giving anything up because they are getting a motivated new member of their team. Throughout the program you will have many opportunities to express your enthusiasm to employers. System: The reason you do not know how to land your Dream Job is because you don’t know the next step. What if you had a system at your fingertips that told you what the next step was? Furthermore, a system that is so complete, it will be your personal guide through the labor market maze. Follow the practical steps in your Training Manual and secure your Dream Job! You have everything you need to successfully navigate the labor market. Keep It Simple The less imagination and mental effort you put into your job search the more success you will have. If you want to “Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™”, apply The Dream Job K.I.S. Technique - The Dream Job Keep It Simple Technique. A famous American Governor applied this model in his campaign and credits it as a major reason for successfully landing his Dream Job – President of the United States. In fact, it was his campaign manager that kept reminding him to Keep It Simple - wise words of advice for you as well.
  • 17. 17 Key Success Tip #1 The simpler you keep your job search, the more success you will have. Experience has taught me that individuals like to complicate things. Actually, to put it more accurately, people like to expand and grow and tend to want to make things better. Would you like me to simplify your life and remove stress? Yes! Your Training Manual only has content that has been PROVEN to work. Dean Childs, an internationally successful motivational speaker who talks on the subject of wealth put it best: “I noticed there are two types of people. One who finds a good idea and exhausts all its potential and gets rich, and the other who comes across the same good idea, has success once, thinks they got lucky and then tries something different and remains broke.” There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Simply apply the technology and watch it work in your life. Focus On You The reason The Dream Job K.I.S. Technique works so well when looking for your Dream Job, is because it encourages you to focus on your greatest asset. So my question to you is this, “What is your most important asset when it comes to landing your Dream Job?” Is it your interview skills, your resume, your cover letter, your negotiation skills, and/or your follow up? Yes, these are all important, but not the MOST important. Your greatest asset does not lie with-out, it lies within. Your greatest asset is YOU. There is a great story about a best selling commercial real estate agent that I thought you might enjoy. I heard him speak one day. He loved his work but was not making as much money as he would like. He, like many others, was told that if you do what you love, then the money will come. For him, and for many others, this was not happening. (I should note here that money is not a source of happiness but merely a handy tool to enjoy life. In any event, he and many of you want more and so this program has been designed to deliver.) He then learned something one day that lead to a quantum leap in his business. The kind of leap that far outweighed the effort he was putting in. In other words, his business increased more than 10 times. “How did you do it?”, the audience pleaded? “Two words”, he said. “Relationships vs. Transaction”. He went on to explain. The moment he realized he was not in the business of selling real estate and closing on transactions by signing contracts, was the moment he made the shift that so many of you want to make. Drop Out Right Now, Please Now is your last chance! If you do not want to learn life long skills that will have your career success skyrocket, I recommend at this moment that you email me immediately at philippedesrochers@yahoo.ca to tell me what is holding you back. GREAT! You stuck with me. As a reward for your perseverance, I have some fantastic news for you. Is This Dream Job Thing For Real? Do you want an average relationship, or a passionate relationship? Do you want average friends, or inspirational friends? Do you want an average child, or a brilliant child? Would you prefer an average job or a Dream Job? When I put it this way it is a simple choice, isn’t it? Up to this point, you may not have thought of this sobering fact. If you want to be average get an average job. If you want to be exceptional, then land a Dream Job. You may have even thought that it is not possible to get a Dream Job. Society certainly doesn’t support it nor does the school system. You can do work you love and your Training Manual will help you get it. Let me state this for the ages: “It is possible to earn a living doing what you love. In fact, the only way you can have career success, is if you do work your love.” I have heard people say: “I love doing this so much that I would do it for free.” A great mentor in my life, Raymond Aaron, whose advice I thankfully followed years ago said this to me: “I love doing this so much that it’s the ONLY thing I’ll do for a living.” Success Story: Jan was a professional Carpenter. However, he had been out of work for several months. Prior to that he tried to apply his carpentry skills in the construction industry but found the work to lack creativity. Overall, he was feeling very discouraged about his job search. He then decided to take action. Using the techniques he began to think of what he loved to do…and discovered that he loved museums. He then landed his Dream Job as a Museum

The first, which is the conventional way, is that there are not enough jobs available and you have to compete with hundreds of other people. The second, and the one I advise you to adopt quickly, is to choose to believe that there is little if no competition and that Dream Jobs are everywhere. Opportunity is everywhere and you will begin to prove this for yourself. Do yourself the greatest favor of all time, and apply only for those jobs that inspire you to be your best. What is your Dream Job? What type of work do you see yourself wanting to become an expert in? What are you already an expert in? What hobbies do you most enjoy? What do other people see you doing as a career? In all my experience supporting Dream Job Seekers™ I have come to one overwhelming clear fact. There is a Dream Job out there waiting for you. • 21. 21 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ The Hidden Dream Job Market™ Based on national statistics, in any given medium to large city, there are roughly 20,000-40,000 jobs available. Yet, if you were to look at all the posted ads in the newspapers and internet, how many could you find - 1000, 2000, maybe 5000? Where can all these other positions be found? Richard Bolles in his best selling career book “What Color is Your Parachute” has found in his research that about 15% of all available positions are advertised. The balance, 85%, are found in the hidden job market. In other words, there is an incredible untapped resource of jobs that are just waiting to be discovered - 85% worth. It’s a pot of gold just waiting for you to pick up. But where and how can you find these jobs? The answer lies in the next statement. Why waste your time with the conventional hidden job market when you can focus your attention on the far more fertile soil…The Hidden Dream Job Market™. The Hidden Dream Job Market™ is a far simpler market to tap into and is defined as unadvertised positions that you consider to be a potential Dream Job. While the conventional hidden job market includes all jobs, The Hidden Dream Job Market™ only includes your Dream Jobs. The Dream Job Law of Focus™ states that the more focus you have in your search the more success you will have in landing your Dream Job. When you apply the techniques found in your Training Manual you uncover Dream Jobs that are just waiting to be discovered. Even more amazingly, you can actually create your own Dream Job where one does not exist yet. In a recent poll, senior executives were asked what they would do if they were approached by a qualified individual when they did not have an opening available. An astounding 90% said they would create a new position for you. Success Story: Carl was looking for work in the field of marketing and had come up with several options. The problem was…he wasn’t enthusiastic about his options. When asked what his Dream Job was he said: “A Dream Job is not realistic.” When asked again he revealed that in fact he would love to work for a world famous marketer in San Francisco who was renowned for developing new retail store concepts. He greatly admired this woman, who was the creative genius behind the company. He then admitted that he had looked for postings and job opportunities on the internet and found none for this firm. He gave up. He then learned that companies often invent opportunities. He applied the correct principles in this manual and to his amazement she wanted

He then landed his Dream Job as a Marketing Intern. The firm had thought of hiring an intern but did not know how to go about doing it. The fact that he approached them helped the firm fill a need and took his career to the next level. How To Tap Into The Hidden Dream Job Market™ On the next page is a comparison between the order in which a typical job seeker looks for work, and the way an employer looks to fill positions - (1.) being the most favored approach and (5.) being the least favored.1 Job Seeker Employer 1. Ad 1. Network inside department 2. Recruiter 2. Network inside company 3. Network outside company 3. Network outside company 4. Network inside company 4. Recruiter 5. Network inside department 5. Ad What do you notice when you compare the two? Notice that the job seeker looks for employers the complete opposite way that employers look for job seekers. If you want to land work you love quickly, then make it a habit to be where the employer is looking. Start by networking inside the company department, then the company, then general networking, and finally using recruiters and ads. What you might not know is that employers are always looking for good people. Often their search ends before they advertise for a position. The reason for this is because employers much prefer to fill positions without having to post an advertisement. In fact, an employer will do everything in their power to fill a position before having to advertise for it. The moment an employer decides to advertise a position the entire procedure can take between 8-12 weeks and cost between $500-$5000. With %98 of all companies being small businesses, they can’t afford to be spending this money. Typically, there is a three month period where an employment opportunity exists before a company is forced to advertise. Approach companies during this three month period and you will be amazed to discover an untapped gold mine waiting to be discovered. You might be thinking that all companies anticipate staff needs and plan ahead. Here are the facts. Over 60% of companies do not have a Human Resources strategy-which means that over half the companies in your city do not plan ahead when it comes to staffing needs. What these companies need is for you to help them with their staffing needs. Your Training Manual has been designed to help you do this. And if this is not enough encouragement for you to get moving, a recent poll of companies uncovered that over 50% of
  • 23. 23 companies at any given time actually have current openings. What are you waiting for? They are ripe for the picking. The Four Opportunity Factors™ All companies are at the mercy of The Four Opportunity Factors™ - factors that are constantly creating havoc and change in companies…and opportunities for you. Here they are: Cyclical: economy Structural: company Frictional: people Seasonal: time of year Cyclical: The economy is constantly expanding and contracting. Interest rates are going up and down. Consumer spending goes up and down. Every single time economic indicators suggest a shift, companies respond accordingly. The good news for you is that when these indicators are strong it means that there are more positions available than candidates. Good news for you. Even more interestingly, during economic downturns, companies need to become more productive and often replace inefficient workers with efficient ones. More good news. Structural: Regardless of economic impacts, companies themselves go through changes. Roughly 80% of new businesses fail in the first two years and therefore there are always new companies in the market, which means opportunity for you. Interestingly, even companies that go into receivership often need the help of highly qualified individuals to help them overcome obstacles. I particularly remember hearing of a prominent company that made the front page of the newspaper for several days because it was going bankrupt. At first glance, it would appear that no opportunities existed. However, the company was bought by new owners who repositioned the company and went on a hiring spree. Those individuals who approached the company during the difficult times had first crack at their Dream Job in the company. Frictional: Just as in personal relationships, business relationships are built and terminated each and every single day. This has a huge impact on the labor market. New positions become available every day as a result of the natural process of the forming and ending of human relationships. The factors that impact these relationships are as varied as there are people. Some reasons why people leave their jobs are: It is not their Dream Job, they want more of a challenge, they don’t get along with their boss or coworker, they move out of the country, they change careers, and they retire. Do you know anyone in your life that changed jobs for these or any other reasons?
  • 24. 24 Here is another way to look at Frictional change. Imagine your number one goal in life was to find your one true love and you found yourself on a remote island with 10 couples. You dearly wish you could be in a loving relationship, but everyone else is taken. At first glance it might appear hopeless and pointless. But remember, there is constant change in relationships. Relationships are either expanding or contracting. Therefore, one couple might have a dispute over a coconut or the way the bamboo sofa should be placed-resulting in a break up of the relationship. The relationships on the island and the companies that make up the economy are in constant movement. Movement means opportunity for you. Seasonal: Finally, there is the impact of seasons on the labor market. There are periods during the year where more work opportunities exist than others. They are during the summer, or winter months or holiday seasons. What you might not consider, is that often these temporary opportunities are a fantastic way to get your foot in the door, impress your boss and land your Dream Job within the very same company. Success Story: Jim, a Software Developer, accepted a low paying job for Wal- Mart in the Electronics Department during the Christmas season. His friends thought he was selling himself short, but he knew something his friends did not. He learned and applied the technology found in these pages. What happened? Within three weeks he was offered a position at Head Office as a Software Developer…his Dream Job. Next, apply the simple process in Step 1 and identify the loves you have in many areas of your life. When you do this, you will identify patterns which will begin to point you in the direction of your Dream Job. It’s called The Loves Catcher™. Enjoy!
  • 25. 25 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 1: The Loves Catcher™ There is no question that if you want to excel at what you do, you must do what you love. Very rarely do you have an opportunity to do an inventory of the activities you love to do in several areas of your life. Physically, you have a unique heartbeat. You also have a unique thumbprint, retina pattern and voice. In fact, your heart beats in a slightly different pattern than anyone else’s in the world. As such, you have been given a unique emotional “heartbeat” that races when you think of subjects and activities that catch your interest. You instinctively care about some things and not others. These are clues to where you should be serving. When you were growing up you may have found out that you were very interested in some subjects that no one else you knew cared about. Where did these interests come from? You were born with them. Another word for these interests is passion. For example, as a child you may have loved playing video games, writing in your journal, and riding your bike. You may have loved talking, cutting the grass and swimming. You may have showed a particular interest at school in chemistry, or math, or art or drama. These are extremely powerful indicators of your passions that are with you for your entire life. How do you actually know if you are using your gifts? The first sign is enthusiasm. When you are doing what you love no one has to motivate you or challenge you. When you are doing something other than a passion, then you are easily discouraged. The second way you can actually tell if you are using your gifts, is if you are effective in what you are doing. Whenever you are doing what you love, you naturally get good at it. Another way to tell when you are following your hearts desire is when you lose track of time. It’s when you have just spent 3 hours doing an activity and you say to yourself: “Boy, does time fly!” Or you just simply forget to eat because you are so consumed by excitement. Finally, when you do what you love, the huge benefit to you is that you never procrastinate! Think of the hobbies you do? Think of the thoughts that keep you up at night? Think about the stores you like to shop at? Think about the TV shows you

When clarity and focus are present you are far more likely to be motivated during your Dream Job search. Values are defined as your judgment of what is valuable and important in your life. Sometimes, when looking for your Dream Job you forget that you have a choice in working for the kind of company that reflects your work values. This exercise will help you identify what is important to you and support you in applying for positions that only match your work values. As such, when you identify your work values you will be far more successful in landing your Dream Job in 12 weeks or less! This exercise of identifying your work values is designed to reduce your anxiety around making a decision regarding which companies to approach. If you are motivated to work for and/or with someone then you are far more likely to excel. This exercise will also dramatically contribute to an increased level of genuine enthusiasm towards your search. I remember speaking with a Human Resources Recruiter who was very discouraged in her work. Her job entailed interviewing people all day to place them in vacant positions. She was particularly disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm candidates where demonstrating on the phone and in the interview when applying for work. She was so uninspired by applicants, that she was thinking of quitting her job. Her advice to Dream Job Seekers™ is to “get noticed by showing some enthusiasm.” Think of it this way. If you want to impress someone on a first date, you must show particular interest in that person. Show interest and enthusiasm for the person and company you are interviewing with and you will be in a great position to influence them to hire you. Key Success Tip #6 Use The Dream Job Values Identifier™ and watch your enthusiasm levels dramatically increase.

If you do not have much confidence, then you will leave at the first sight of a challenge. Same goes in landing your Dream Job. When you are confident in your presentation to employers, you will be far more likely to successfully deal with the unexpected and land your Dream Job. Definition of a Skill: Learned behavior Definition of an Attribute: Innate behavior Your transferable skills are those skills you take from job to job. As soon as you identify your skills and communicate them in a clear and concise manner, the faster you will have employers knocking at your door. • 39. 39 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 5: The Strength Generator™ The biggest complaint employers have about average job seekers, is that after speaking to them during a networking event or an interview, employers still have no idea what they did on the job. How can an employer make an informed decision about deciding to hire you, if they don’t understand the work you did? The best and easier way for you to remedy this problem is to give employers exactly what they want - clear examples from your past that demonstrate your use of the skills required to perform your Dream Job. It is that simple. Always remember this key point: Key Success Tip #8 Past performance predicts future behavior. By explaining your past performances, you are giving the employer the opportunity to trust you. Employers take on a very large risk when they decide to hire you. The best way they can develop trust in you is by getting to know you and identifying whether you have the skills and attitudes to do the work. You see, when you don’t give clear examples of your past performance you are in essence sending the message that you are hiding something. Employers would rather wait months to find the right fit than hire someone that possesses a risk. Essentially, employers just want to reduce the risks involved in hiring you. The best way an employer can do this is by understanding your past performance to predict your future performance. In fact, going in an interview without examples of your past performance is like walking into an exam and not having studied. You guarantee failure when you do this. Would you ever invest your money in a business without looking at its past performance? Equally, an employer will never hire you if they don’t have a clear understanding of your past performance. Key Success Tip #9 In order to convince others of your ability to complete a task you must prove your skills. The best way to prove your skills is to give an example of your work in the past.
  • 40. 40 It is quite common for an employer to interview a candidate for one hour and still have no idea the kind of work he/she did in the past. They simply can’t picture in their mind what you did on the job. An added bonus for using examples is that they help others remember you. When being interviewed, you want to stand out from the rest. The greatest way you can do so, is by painting a mental picture for the employer about the work you have done in the past. Always remember, that “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Paint that picture using examples of your past work performances. Complete this exercise, and then use The Dream Job Simplifier™ to actually identify the type of work you would like to consider. Be flexible in your selection and trust that your choices are based on your loves. This is only the beginning and be patient with yourself.

  • 43. 43 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 6: The Dream Job Simplifier™ This exercise has been specifically designed to take you through a three step process that creates awareness for you. It is a practical approach to landing your Dream Job. By selecting the reasons for your choice you will begin to notice unmistakable patterns. These patterns are so powerful in the attainment of your Dream Job that they are based on a law. The Dream Job Law of Patterns™ The patterns you become aware of will be your roadmap in guiding you towards your Dream Job. You may think that you do not know the kind of work you would love to do - but you do. You have gotten really good at telling yourself that it is not possible to have a job you love. Some of you are professionals in telling yourself what is NOT possible. Some of the best excuses I hear is: “If I did work I loved, I would never make enough money.” or “I don’t know what I love to do.” You already know what you love. Key Success Tip #10 There comes a time in your life where you have to believe more in what you don’t see than what you do see. It is called faith. Have faith in yourself. The following is a true story about a woman who always knew what she loved to do and one day decided to share her gifts with the world and earn a living doing so. She is a client of The Monthly Mentor™ program through Raymond Aaron. Success Story: Marg was stuck in a career rut. She decided to do only what she loved. She knew that she loved filling in contest entry forms. Marg quit her job and decided to spend her time filling in contest entry forms. Her husband was completely against it. In her first year she won a car, several trips and $20,000 in cash. Her friends started noticing that she was winning and asked her to fill in contest entry forms for them. She did so and charged each person $50 per month. With a large network of friends she capped the number of clients at 200 friends. She earns $10,000 per month doing what she loved. More than her husband ever made. He now works for her.
  • 44. 44 Think of Marg every time you find yourself limiting your thoughts to how you can contribute your skills to the world and earn quite a nice living doing so. Your Dream Job may mean that you become a consultant or self employed contractor. Whatever it looks like, it may not be what you thought it would be. Be flexible and listen to what your instincts tell you. So far, you have learned how to identify your loves, work values, skills and attributes, and working examples from your past. Now you have a better understanding of the kind of work you want to do, and the specific skills you enjoy using. Complete this exercise, and then take the opportunity to create your own personal vision. In harnessing the power of The Vision Creator™ you paint a clear picture of the kind of work life you want – allowing you to live an intentional life where you have freedom. What are you waiting for? Go to it!

  • 49. 49 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 7: The Vision Creator™ By visualizing and setting action steps, you are setting an intentional life. In doing so, you are taking full control of your life and you can be the person you always wanted to be. This approach is called structural tension. It is designed to anchor you in the future as apposed to pulling you back from your past. When you paint a clear picture of what you want and you rate yourself where you are in relation to that vision on a scale of 1-10, you clearly see the gaps and the solutions to achieving your goals come automatically for you. You then identify the action steps you know you need to do to move towards your vision. Success Story: Personally, for years I tried setting a goal of loosing a certain amount of weight by a certain date. It never worked. For six straight years I tried…and for six straight years I was always gaining weight. Then I discovered The Vision Creator™. I first set a vision of being clean, light, flexible and strong. I rated myself a 3/10 in that department because of my very poor eating habits. I put in place processes that would help me loose the weight. However, my biggest worry was overcoming the powerful craving to consume unhealthy food. To my complete amazement, my vision, which anchored me in the future as opposed to where I was, was like a beacon of light that guided me to safety. It worked like magic. I lost 40 pounds in 4 months. That was two years ago…and I have kept off the weight ever since. The key distinction here is that you cannot set effective goals unless you know where you are headed. Simply setting a goal lacks the pull towards a higher vision, a purpose if you will. When you anchor yourself to your vision, and then set goals to take you there, you are able to summon the motivation required to achieve any goal…and in this case, your Dream Job. This makes you unstoppable. Think of a suspension bridge. The anchoring of the bridge on the other side is your vision. The steps you take to cross the bridge are your goals. When you fail to set a vision you are not anchoring your bridge to the other side-making it impossible to cross. You are doomed to fail. Anchor your bridge by setting your vision and enjoy the fun ride and sights as you cross safely. Complete this exercise, and then learn how to set action steps, or goals, so that you have the road map to guide you towards achieving your ultimate goal of landing your Dream Job in 12 weeks or less! The Goal Achievement Formula™ is a seven step process that ensures your goals have the strength to

  • 53. 53 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 8: The Goal Achievement Formula™ Set your daily goals in the morning and review them at the end of each day. In 2004 and 2005 1-800-Got-Junk, North America’s largest junk removal service won the “Best Employer” award. They are famous for using GS & R (Goal Setting & Review). Get in the habit every day of setting your goals that are in line with your vision and review them at the end of the day. When you write down your goals you have a far greater chance of attaining them. Raymond Aaron, creator of The Monthly Mentor™ and an expert in goal achievement, has supported thousands of people in reaching their goals. He discovered that when you write down your goals on a regular basis using an effective system, you actually achieve some goals effortlessly. As a result, he invented the word “automagically”-the phenomenon that occurs when your goals achieve themselves effortlessly. Key Success Tip #11 Write down your goals using The Goal Achievement Formula™. You just might “automagically” land your Dream Job. Tom Hopkins, in his famous book “The Art of Selling”, states that when you are engaged in offering a product or service it is important that your goals be: • In line with your vision • Action items and not results He states that if you link your goals with your vision you will be more motivated to do whatever it takes to reach for success. He goes on to state that if you focus on results, and you do not achieve them, you are disappointed. But if you focus on action, the results will automatically follow. For example, if you focus on booking two interviews per week and you are unsuccessful, then you feel disappointed. But, when you focus on making 5 calls per day, the results will automatically follow. The key is to focus on action items.
  • 54. 54 Key Success Tip #12 When you focus on your actions you have a greater sense of control over your Dream Job search. And when you feel control, you have more confidence in yourself and your ability to inspire employers to meet and hire you dramatically increases. Only when you are feeling confident in your abilities to perform action steps can you then graduate to setting results goals. (I.e. booking two interviews) Use this technology and watch how your goals take you to levels of success you never thought possible. Complete this exercise, and then embark on the most important step in landing your Dream Job. Up until now you have built your foundation. Now it is time to start building your home. Step 9 is key to your success because it is the first practical action step towards landing your Dream Job. The Dream Job Leads Generator™ is your ticket to discovering the companies you want to work for. It is a wonderful world out there. Get ready….Set….GO!

  • 57. 57 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 9: The Dream Job Leads Generator™ The Dream Job Law of Randomness™ There are only two ways to tap into The Hidden Dream Job Market™ - a market where 85% of the jobs you are looking for can be found. The first is networking (see Step 13-The Dream Job Network Accelerator™), which you will be looking at later on. The second is to produce a list of companies to contact. To fully tap into The Hidden Dream Job Market™ you must use The Dream Job Leads Generator™. Your list will also be an invaluable tool in helping you stay organized and remain focused on the companies you need to contact. From a statistical standpoint, in order to have sufficient leads to land your Dream Job, a list of 100 companies is required. This number will be sufficient to support all your Dream Job search activities. Your list will be your foundation of confidence as you contact companies that potentially have employment opportunities. Please make an important mental note. There is an effective and ineffective way of developing your list. Before I tell you the answer, I want you to have an open mind. Trust that what I am going to share with you has worked for others and can work for you. Ineffective Way: Spend 30 minutes to an hour of research for each company you add to your leads list. Effective Way: Spend NO MORE than 4 minutes per lead before adding it to your leads list There is a level of randomness you better start getting comfortable with when it comes to landing your Dream Job. It’s called The Dream Job Law of Randomness™. You see, you know what companies you want to work for, and you know which ones you don’t want to work for. But isn’t it possible that there is a company out there that you don’t know about that just might be launching a new product or lost their best staff member that you don’t know about? And if there might be one, might there be more than one? Success Story: Mary had been conducting her job search on her own and found no results. During her independent job search she had developed her own leads list. After investing in this program, I instructed her to complete The
  • 58. 58 Dream Job Leads Generator™. She did not feel it was necessary as she already had a list. In fact, she was quite resistant to the whole ideas of re-doing a list she had already done. I asked her to trust me and follow the instructions. The results were almost instant. After doing the exercise she realized that she had completely left out opportunities that were hers for the taking. She was so grateful that she wanted me to inform all of my clients of her success so that she could encourage them. She not only inspired herself but also those around her. What were her results? With months of no interviews with her old list, she, in a one hour period, managed to speak to seven Decision Makers that wanted to see her resume. She was very grateful and said she would “never doubt the process again.” I share this story with you because I understand you might be resistant. You feel you have to do all this research. Save your extensive research until after you book the interview. There is a time and place for research…it just isn’t now. I can explain it another way. Are you in a relationship or have you ever been in a relationship? Think about the type of person you thought you would be with when you were younger. Think of what you thought they would look like and the type of work they would be doing. Now, look at your current partner or most recent partner if you are single. Does this person match your original description? Based on the multitude of polls that I have conducted in this arena, the answer was probably not. Aren’t you lucky for being open and flexible enough to meet someone you love? Yes. Same goes with your career. There is a company out there that you don’t know about that is most likely the company that has your Dream Job waiting for you. The moral of the story is to be flexible when approaching companies. Success Story: To test the effectiveness of a professional stock broker, a newspaper editor decided to have a little contest. The goal of the game was to pick ten stocks in a portfolio at the beginning of the year. At the end of the year the person whose portfolio had the greatest gain would win. The Investment Advisor with all his financial aptitudes and market awareness did his research and made his selections. The editor of the paper, with no experience in finance decided to put the finance section of the paper on a dart board and throw ten darts at the paper. The 10 company names he hit with the darts made up his stock portfolio. One year later, the stock broker and dart shooting editor compared the performance of their portfolio. The editor won by 1%. What can you conclude from this true story? There is a level of randomness in landing your Dream Job.

  • 61. 61 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 10: The Decision Maker Selector™ The next statement is so startling that I had to develop a law to explain this incredible phenomenon. In all my years booking interviews with company Decision Makers and in teaching individuals how to do the same, I have come to one clear conclusion: The higher you go in the company, the easier it is to reach the person and the more success you will have in booking an interview. I call it The Dream Job Law of Gravity™. Hiring decisions are made as you move up the corporate hierarchy, so aim to be interviewed by the person in charge of the department you want work. The best news of all is that the higher you go the more polite and professional they are. Always remember that there are two types of people that work for companies - the person who is worried about their job and the person who is worried about building a strong team around them. Who do you want to talk to? You got it. Stick with the Decision Maker and the higher the better. Even more interestingly, like gravity, your call or resume will be referred down the company, much easier than it will going up. Start at the top, and be amazed at how much attention your application is given. Key Success Tip #14 The Dream Job Law of Gravity™ states that your resume will float down organizational hierarchies easier than they rise. Picture yourself at the top of a 10 story building holding a copy of your resume. Does it take less energy to throw your resumes down 10 stories or up 10 stories? Of course, by taking advantage of the law of gravity you simply let go of your resume. You too can take advantage of the law of gravity in landing your Dream Job. Always remember: a resume travels down a company hierarchy far easier than up. I leave the choice up to you. What About Human Resources? Human Resources primary purpose is to review resumes and weed out applicants that do not fit the needs of the company. Those that qualify are then passed on to the Decision Maker. I have seen some of the best talent get missed by Human Resources because they are so busy. They have an entire company to worry about. Why not talk to the person who has only a
  • 62. 62 department to worry about. And after all, the final decision to hire you lies with the Decision Maker. Success Story: Some of the largest investment banks in the world approach McGill Business School to lure some of the best talent in the world. Companies such as Solomon Smith Barney, Goldman Sax, JP Morgan, and Credit Suisse First Boston were looking to fill their Junior Analyst Positions. A Finance graduate from the university who graduated in the top 15% of his class having already completed a summer internship in investment banking applied using the conventional methods, through Human Resources. The result: He didn’t even land one interview. Not even a phone call…but lots of “Thanks But No Thanks” letters. As a joke, he even began collecting them and hanging them on his wall. Then, he learned to apply these techniques and shifted his attention from Human Resources to the Decision Makers. He took advantage of The Dream Job Law of Gravity™ and within less than four weeks had several interviews lined up and finally two job offers from none other than Solomon Smith Barney and Credit Suisse First Boston. He accepted Credit Suisse’s offer and learned a valuable lesson. Call the Decision Maker first. Only if referred internally or externally do you speak to Human Resources. Success Story: Aviation is known for having lots of full time pilots vying for flight line jobs without having enough hours to qualify. But airlines are at times desperate for pilots and hire candidates that do not meet the minimum stated in the required qualifications. When Human Resources rejects all applications that don’t meet minimum requirements, how do they hire one? Easy…the Decision Maker said to. A Senior Pilot once brought his best friends daughter, a low time (yet fully certified) pilot that didn’t meet minimum posted requirements into the Chief Pilots office. Brian, the Chief Pilot said: “I don’t have the time now-take her down to Ms. McMurray in HR”. The Senior Pilot and candidate then walked straight into Ms. McMurray’s office and the Senior Pilot said to her: “Brian wanted you to meet Ashley.” There was a stack of resumes two feet high on her desk of candidates no better qualified than Ashley. Ms McMurray said: “If Brian wants me to meet you, I’ve got a few minutes to talk.” At which point the Senior Pilot said: “You are on your own now-good luck”. Ms McMurray and Ashley talked for 15 minutes as a first interview. She was hired in the next intake three weeks later. Even if the Decision Maker sends you to HR, you haven’t lost anything-you just landed yourself on the VIP line up to see them. Contact the Decision Maker! Complete this exercise, and then learn about The Dream Job Secret Weapon™. The foundation of this process is information meetings - a highly effective tool in networking, meeting employers and landing your Dream Job. Are you ready? Here you go.
  • 63. 63 Land Your Dream Job in 12 Weeks or Less!™ The Dream Job Training Manual™ Step 10: Exercise The Decision Maker is the person that will be able to make a decision about hiring you. The Decision Maker is not Human Resources. Below, write down the title of the Decision Maker that you would like to talk to in your field. (I.e. IT Manager, Comptroller, V.P. Operations). Mandatory Action: Identify the Decision Maker in the company. Only go to Human Resources if referred. Small company (person’s title): _______________________________________ Medium company (person’s title): _____________________________________ Large company (person’s title): ______________________________________ Private companies usually have the following hierarchy: CEO/President CFO/CIO/COO Vice President Director Manager Supervisor Not-for-profit companies usually have the following hierarchy: Executive Director Managing Director Program Manager Note: If you are an Accountant you will want to speak to the Accounting Manager. If you are a Financial Analyst you will want to speak to the Finance Manager. If you are looking for work in customer service you will want to speak to the Customer Service Manager. Simply place the work you do and then place the title after such as manager or director. If no title exists for the type of work you want to do then the Decision Maker you want to speak to is “the person in charge of collections” for example.

When is an Information Meeting NOT?: It is not a disguised way for you to ask for a Dream Job. If you do this, you run the risk of aggravating the employer and ruining your chances of ever landing work with them. Key Success Tip #15 Always be prepared for an Information Meeting to be turned into an Employment Interview by the employer. Success Story: Gary went on an Information Meeting. He was new to the country and an Accountant in his home country. He wanted to make contact with local employers and also find out where he could apply his skills. During his first information meeting, he was asked if he had any supervisory experience. Having said “yes”, the information meeting turned into an employment interview and he got the job. What was most interesting is that he was convinced he could never land supervisory work as his first job in the country. But he did…all because of his willingness to network with employers through an information meeting. In addition, he accepted an offer which was $15,000 higher than his expectations. Well done Gary!
