2. My music video is for a song in the Rock genre so I tried to
follow conventions of that genre. Including Showing close
ups of the musician, having cuts in time with the beat and
also using clothes and mise-en-scene that have
connotations with Rock music.
Before I started my music video I did a case study on the
music video director Jonathan Glazer, I liked how he used
a strong narrative and often long travelling scenes to build
interest, this influenced me when I was planning my music
video.
I used a lot of black and red in my video in the background
but mostly on clothing as I thought these colours helped to
represent the rock genre
I tried to make connections between the lyrics and the
visuals in accordance with Goodwin’s Theory, I chose to
show an argument between a couple in my video as a lot
of the lyrics reference things that would fit in that context.
I wanted to show shots of the musician playing and singing
as this is a huge convention of music videos, As he didn’t
know the actual song I had shots of him playing guitar to
the girl worked into the narrative.
3. •Here is my DVD Digipack cover and Magazine advert
which I made using Photoshop and Gimp
•I have used a low angle shot photograph to make the artist
look powerful, this is a common convention of the rock
genre.
•I have used a dynamic effect and high contrast to make
the image eye catching
•I have used the same image for the magazine advert so
that people will be able to recognise it easily
•I have shown a guitar in the image so it is obvious that it is
a Music release- not a film.
•I have shown different guitars in the logo that I designed to
show Nick also plays a lot of acoustic music.
4. I used the following equipment and software during this project:
Hard disc Camcorders and tripod,
Adobe Premier Pro CS3,
Adobe Photoshop and Gimp For the DVD Digipack and Magazine Advert
I used websites such as Ning, YouTube, Slideshare and Twitter to upload my
work as well as Survey Monkey to carry out surveys.
I learnt a lot about how to handle a camera as well as how to use exposure and
manual focus to improve the quality of my footage, by using a hard disk
camcorder I was able to easily transfer my footage onto the computer and edit it
quickly and easily.
I also learnt how to use Adobe Premier to edit my rushes, learning several
techniques such as adding transitions and effects, as well as editing the colours
in footage and showing multiple images at a time.
