1. Dr. Giorgio Di Pietro
Reader in Economics of Education
Westminster Business School
University of Westminster

April 2015
To whom it may concern,
I am writing at the request of Mr. Piotr Mazur in support of his application for a place on the
MSc programme in Investment and Risk Finance offered by the Westminster Business
School. I am very pleased to support his application. I have known Piotr since September
2014 as he was one of my students on the third level Econometrics module.
Piotr’s performance in the Econometrics in-class test has been excellent. His grade was in the
top 5% of the class, which was composed by approximately 60 students. Piotr has very good
analytical skills. His spoken English is also extremely good.
Looking at Piotr’s academic transcript it is clear that he did perform very well also during his
first two years at university. He has shown great academic ability especially in quantitative
modules (e.g. Financial Information, Principles of Statistics, and Quantitative Analysis of
Economic Environment). In light of this and given his preliminary results on third level
quantitative modules, I have every confidence that he can successfully complete the chosen
Master’s degree.
His dedication and commitment have impressed me immensely. He has come to see me on
several occasions and I have always had a lot of time for a student with such a thorough and
honest approach to his studies. I feel Piotr is a hard working person and he is likely to work
well under pressure as he is up for any challenge or jobs that may come his way.
At the social level, Piotr is a polite and willing student, who communicates well with other
members of staff and his fellow students. He is eager to help other students and has no
problems in working collaboratively with his peers. I particularly note his maturity,
sociability, ability to listen, and tactful communication style, which were clearly exhibited in
the context of our various interactions.
I am very happy to provide a reference for Piotr, as he is a bright young man who has a
friendly and lively manner that is also matched by a strong work ethic and dedication to his
studies.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr Giorgio Di Pietro
