Summary:
I had my industrial training in “BHILAI STEEL PLANT”.
My work was focusing on observation and inspection of two
plants-
1.REFRACTORY MATERIALS PLANT-II
2. FOUNDRY & PATTERN SHOP
3. MERCHANT MILL
3. In first week
Application, documentation and gate pass procedures
were going to be processed and general overview and
safety techniques about the plant were studied

Bhilai Steel Plant –

4. In present the annual production of plant is 87MT (+5%)
5. ACHIVEMENTS
1. Nine times winner of Prime Minister’s Trophy for best integrated Steel
Plant in the country.
2. BSP is credited two times with ISO(Umbrella):-
a. For Quality Management System Standards,
b. Awarded for Environmental Management System in the plant,
Town and DALLI MINES.

7. Safety in the Industry
Don’ts:-
Do not take the training lightly and casually.
Do not give an impression that you are doing the training just for
the sake of it. Put your heart and soul.

8. Blast Furnance:- It is in the form of tower into which a blast of hot compressed
air can be introduced from below. Such furnance are used chiefly to make iron
from a mixture of iron ore, coke and limestone.
It is also called counter current realtor where solids descend and gases
ascend.
9. FOUNDRY AND PATTERN SHOP
1. Generally Foundry Shop is divided into four divisions:-
a. Mechanical ground Work
b. Crane Working
c. Metallurgical work
d. Sand Screening
2. Types of casting done in Foundry Shop:-
a. Ferrous metal
i. Cast Iron
ii. Steel
b. Non-Ferrous metal
10. FOUNDRY AND PATTERN SHOP
Process:-
1. Firstly, molten pig iron is brought to the foundry shop through an 80 ton capacity ladle
through a locomotive from blast furnance.
2. Then, it is poured into 100 ton reservoir container resting on a pedestal(made of brass)
with a gear arrangement for tilting.(temp maintain by coke oven gas).
3. Then for further processing molten metal is poured from 100 ton to 34 ton ladle which is
preheated by coke oven gas.
4. With the help of transfer trolly(capacity 50 ton) shifting of 34 ton ladle is done.
5. Now then casting is being carried out.
6. After casting it will be sent to the Drying Oven (used to remove moisture content).

RAW MATERIAL:- RAIL SCRAP
Molten steel is taken into 5 ton ladle and poured into cope and
drag mould.
MECHANISM:- Trolly , Roof, Door ,Tilting(Spur Gear),
Electrode(Rack & pinion)
FINAL PRODUCT:- Small machine and spare parts for
the plant.

FINAL PRODUCTS:- ALUMINIUM SHORTS and ALUMINIUM CUBES
for deoxidization , BRASS BUSH (on pedestal)
