7. Lightning Arrester (LA)
It is the first protective equipment in the
GSS.
Lightning Arrester is a protective device
which provides protection against the
high voltage from lightning.
A lightning Arrester has two terminal one
is the high voltage terminal and another
one is ground.
8. Bus Bars
An electrical bus bar is defined as a
conductor or a group of conductor
used for collecting electric power from
the incoming feeder and distribute
them to the outgoing feeders.
Bus Bar is made from copper (Cu) or
Aluminium (Al).
Types of Bus Bar
1. Main bus bar.
2. Auxiliary bus bar.
9. Protective Relay
Protective Relay are the sensing device.
It is sense the abnormal condition in
electrical circuit and gives the tripping
command to the circuit breaker.
10. Circuit Breaker
Circuit Breaker are automatically
operated electrical switch.
Operate at ON LOAD Condition.
It separate faulty circuit from healthy
circuit.
Types of Circuit Breaker
1. Air Circuit Breaker
2. SF6 Circuit Breaker
3. Vacuum Circuit Breaker
4. Oil Circuit Breaker
11. Isolator
Isolator is a device which is used to
break the circuit under no load
condition.
It is used for maintenance purpose
with safety.
It is also known as OFF - LINE
switch.
12. Current Transformer
Current Transformer is an instrument
transformer which is used for
protection and metering of high value
of current.
Secondary side of CT is connected
from relay coil.
It is always connected in series with
system.
13. Potential Transformer
Potential Transformer is an instrument
transformer which is used for
protection and measurement of high
voltage.
PT is used to step down of voltage.
It is connected in parallel with the
system.
14. Power Transformer
Power Transformer is a static ac device which transfer power from one
electrical circuit to another electrical circuit without change in frequency.
Working Principal – Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction.
Types of Power Transformer
1. Step Up Transformer
2. Step Down Transformer
15. Earthing
The process of transferring the immediate
discharge of the electrical energy directly
to the earth by the help of the low
resistance wire is known as the earthing.
It is used for protection against danger
electrical shocks.
Types of Earthing
1. Plate Earthing
2. Pipe Earthing
16. Capacitor Bank
For compensate the reactive power,
we use capacitor bank.
Advantages
1. It reduces line current of the
system.
2. It improves voltage level of the
load.
3. It improves power factor.
17. Battery Bank
It is responsible for supplying all the
relay panels which are situated in
control room.
Relay panels works on 110V DC
supply.
In battery room 55 batteries are
connected in series, each battery is 2V.
