6. Agroforestry
• In India, AF has been a way of life. It is
practiced in one form or other in different
parts of the country since long.
•Retaining trees on field bunds and/or inside
fields or leaving a chunk of holding under
natural vegetation is common practice.
• Most AFS provide 5 Fs, plant derived
medicines, and timber resources.
• AF area in India estimated to be 14.46 M
ha without fallow & 17.45 M ha with
fallow land as against 25.32 M ha[ Dhyani
et al. 2013].
•>1 billion ha in developing countries, and to
a lesser extent in the industrialized countries
(Nair et al. 2009; Zomer et al. 2009)
•Cross cutting approach - sustainable
livelihoods and climate change mitigation

9. Online Database Management at NRC Agroforestry
Agroforestry Database
Development Programme
The specific objectives of the
project are
To enable quick and efficient access
to consolidated pool of information
on agroforestry trees - crop species
that can assume useful production or
service, or both.
To provide a tool that will assist in
the selection of tree/crop/grass
species for use in agroforestry and
related research using factors that
are relevant to the chosen
agroforestry technologies.
Whereas the mission of the
project,
is to develop Web enabled
Agroforestry Information
System by providing
comprehensive information
on agroforestry in India in a
temporal and spatial
framework.
These databases has been
abbreviated as
“agroforestryBASE”

"agroforestryBASE"
Each part of the "agroforestryBASE" is an independent module
and the components include database management at backend
and application programme at the front-end.
It includes following databases namely
Database on Agroforestry Research Projects
Database on Economic Analysis of AF Case Study
Database on Agroforestry MPTS
Database on Agroforestry Interventions/Innovations
Bibliographic Databases on Agroforestry MPTS
and
Web Portal on Tree growth modelling in India
11.
12. The Database on MPTS (Multipurpose Tree Species) contains information on
MPTS being invariably utilized in AF with details on growth, climatic requirement,
diseases and pest, production, bibliography etc.
