Debre Tabor University was established in 2008. Their Excellencies
Addisu Legesse and Demeke Mekonen laid the foundation stone on the
eastern part of the town about 4 Kms away from its center on 126
hectares of land. This area was previously owned by 268 farmers to
whom nearly 10.5 million birr was paid for compensation and
rehabilitation. Among the 268 farmers, only 10 ceased farming and
engaged in other occupations to earn their living

Ethiopia is one of the leading nations in the developing world set to quickly
strategically relocate it by putting various strategies in place critically important to
ensure national development and global competence. Asset in many literatures and
practically evaluated educated human power are the determinant factors for the
countries development in the world. The existing situation shows that countries which
have more educated people are more developed and vice versa. This implies that
education is an enabling tool to solve artificial and natural disaster and it helps to
improve livelihood of the society living through the support of science and
technology. In our country Ethiopia, even if modern education was started back a
century, due to problems related to access, relevance and other problems the coverage
is still limited. The country was unable to produce competitive human power in
quality and quantity that fits with the current development program of the country.
Due to these facts the government formulated Education and training policy in 1994.
To bring the policy in to action, the government has walked a very long journey with
success where we live in the time of growth and transformation.
