Antarctica is a continent with extremely cold temperatures where snow piles up and forms ice sheets that press down on lower layers. Few animals live there permanently, but some go there to breed during the summer when the ice melts and land thaws slightly, though the ground remains frozen. Penguins, whales, seals, and other animals are adapted to survive in the icy conditions by reducing heat loss and swimming in the ocean.

weigh presses down on the lower layers to form ice.
The animals don´t live there permanently because it’s very
