For example, if we start with an <Click>
Account. It will most likely link to one or more <Click>
Opportunities. If the opportunity includes professional services, at some point, <Click>
the opportunity will reach a stage <Click>
where you may want to create a services project. <Click>
This is where PSA enters the picture.
Projects can have budgets <Click> and potentially change orders. <Click> <Click>
We manage that process by linking in add-on opportunities if the size of the project increases.
Projects can have <Click> Milestones. Perhaps billable, maybe not.
And , no matter whether it’s a billable project, or even if it’s non-billable, you’re always going to have <Click> resources
Resources are tied to projects though <Click> Assignments
<Click> Skills and schedules then get involved.
Which brings us to <Click> Understanding calendars and <Click> holidays.
At some point, these resources will need to enter their <Click> time, and maybe also their <Click> expenses. <Click>
So now you can see we have three things <Click> that we typically track as Billable items – time, expense, and milestones.
For the purposes of integrating into back-end financial systems (such as our own FinancialForce) we add a new item <Click> Billing Events.
Billing events contain all of the necessary data that we need to hand off to the underlying financial system for journaling the transaction, billing, invoicing, and (ultimately) revenue recognition.
Now <Click> to drill down into what that looks like. Let’s take a look at how PSA works with FinancialForce. <Click> <Click>
Billing events link to Sales Invoice Details, which then have transactions that tie back to the correct Journals under the appropriate Company.
This insures that billable services work hits the ledger in the right way, and that the services work is handled properly from an invoicing perspective.
Now, although FinancialForce is the preferred solution for managing your financials, as it too is on the Force.com platform, we understand that customers may have a variety <Click> of back-end financial solutions. We have experience integrating PSA with a whole host of financial packages, some of which you see listed here.
Ok, now on to the demo…..
