Input and output devices allow users to interact with computers. Input devices, like keyboards and mice, allow users to enter data. Keyboards contain alphanumeric and function keys to input text and numbers. Mice control screen pointers through clicking and dragging. Output devices, like monitors and printers, display information for users. Monitors visually output images through pixels. Printers produce physical copies of documents through impact or non-impact methods. Speakers output audio and projectors display enlarged images onto screens.
2. Input Device
A computer accepts data and instruction from your
through input devices. Data can be in the form of
numbers, text, sound or graphics. Some of the input
devices are:
Keyboard
Mouse
Optical Device
Webcam
3. Keyboard
A Computer Keyboard is the main input device for computers. You
can press the key on it to input data in the form of words and
numbers.
A standard keyboard has 104 keys, which can be classified as
follows:
Alphanumeric keys (A-Z, 0-9)
Control keys (Ctrl, Alt, Esc, Etc.)
Function keys (F1-F12)
Special keys (Caps Lock, Backspace, Spacebar Arrow keys Etc.)
4. MOUSE
It is a Pointing device that allows you to put data
into a computer by using the point click and drag
and drop commands. It control the movement of
the pointer on the screen. It is use to move and
select icon, file and folders on the computer
5. Optical Device
Optical input device that uses light as a source of input.
The eliminate the need for manual entry of data, thus
accuracy increase.
Types Of Optical Devices:-
Scanner
Barcode Reader
6. WEBCAM
It is a digital video camera connected to a
computer. It helps to put your image into the
computer when you are connected to the
internet
7. Output Device
The output devices are used to display the
information and result of computation to the user.
Some of the output devices are:-
Monitor
Printer
Speakers
Projectors
8. Monitor
The monitor is one of the most familiar output device. It is
called the visual Display Unit (VDU). The image you see
on the monitor are made up of tiny dots called pixels.
The clarity of the images depends on the number of
dots/pixel on the screen per inch. The maximum no. of
dots per inch (DPI) will give you more clarity or better
display
9. Printer
In Computing, Printer is a output device which make a persistent
human-readable representation of graphics text on paper or similar
physical media
Types of Printers:-
Impact Printer:-An impact printer makes contact with the paper. It
usually forms the print image by pressing an inked ribbon against the
paper using a hammer or pins. E.g. Dot-Matrix Daisy wheel Etc.
Non-Impact Printer:-Non-Impact printers do not use a striking
devices to produce characters on the paper; and because these printer
do not hammer against the paper they are much Quieter. E.g. Inkjet ,
10. Speaker
Speakers are an output device that produce music,
speech or other sounds, from the computer. These
are also used for listening music and watching
movies on a computer
11. Projector
A Projector or image projectors is an output device
that project any image (or moving images) on flat
surface, commonly a projection screen
