Shift in how people want to learn
11. Why?
“New generations of young people who have grown up with
digital technology have high expectations of anytime,
anywhere learning, but many learners do not have a
clear understanding of how courses could or should use
technology to support learning. They are still very much
reliant on lecturers for guidance.”

Earlier this month we went to a Social Learning conference. This conference was aimed at connecting the learning community with global speakers and though leaders…CHANGE SLIDE
There isn’t enough time to go through it all today but we can at least share with you one element that is being talked about in a number of our clients which is Mobile Learning. We will share the rest of the learnings via the blog so you can read more at your leisure.

WE certainly don’t want you looking like this at the end of our session!Spot the boredom from purple media?
In the 30 day challenge yesterday we asked you to start thinking about mobile learningThat is what this session is all about…If you did post, then write what you posted on a post it note and stick on the wall…Otherwise you have the chance to redeem yourself now!Anything we don’t cover today, we can research and put on the blog.
Set the scene…Maybe just simple pen and paper image, writing letters, envelopes, stamps? Telephone, old style office image, so to show change in both learning and communication landscape? All learning was done in a classroomPeople took their work home Showed their working out in their books
Word processor image? Even something on Postage as this was how communications were sent before email. Thinking about a story Joe’s mum told me at the weekend about how amazing having a word processor was in the office she worked in, compared to a typewriter (saving time, allowing to correct mistakes) she also told me how if an urgent message needed sending then it would be typed and she’d have to hand deliver it, then they got a fax machine, so maybe an image of that, she said they first got a computer in the early nineties. –Don’t know if this helps but thought I’d tell ya.
LOU:So whats changed?Anyone want to tell us what you get from this slide?Basically…There has been a shift in information communication and a shift in how people want to learn. There has been a shift in information/communication from – One to many > Many to many Culture – Then – sit down, shut up and listenNow - Observe, then learn and act on what others do! Employees don’t just receive; they contribute to their world around them. Pull means you provide the resources, lessons, and reference materials and the learners choose when they need them. You want to make them as
LOU:http://www.slideshare.net/jiscinfonet/mobile-learning-info-kit-overview-for-slideshareWhy has this happened?Because…
EM:Fish bowl exercise…. 4 chairs… 3 peopleIf you have something to say then go onto spare chair and someone else needs to jump out the bowl (circle)You will be debating the next statement that appears on the slide. If you are not in the fish bowl, then tweet using the HASHTAG #Pmedu
Would you agree with this statement? Fish bowl debate

We asked you earlier in the week, http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/05/education/05tablets.html?pagewanted=allIT ISNT NEW!We can trace it back to 1976… This is one of the biggest barriers to mobile learning
Not all of these are controlledWord of caution here is, people have access to materials…Valid resources.
