building IoT 2018, Köln: Vortrag von Moritz Kammerer (@phxql, Softwarearchitekt bei QAware) Abstract: Die Iota-Blockchain wirbt mit einer Blockchain, die mit dem Wachstum des Internet of Things mithalten kann. Transaktionsgebühren und Kapazitätsgrenzen, die derzeit bei Bitcoin zu Problemen führen, sollen der Vergangenheit angehören. Damit lassen sich interessante Anwendungsfälle umsetzen, z.B. Mikrotransaktionen oder unfälschbar gespeicherte Sensorwerte. All dies wird mit einer revolutionären neuen Datenstruktur erreicht, dem sogenannten Tangle. Dieser Vortrag führt in die Grundlagen der Iota-Blockchain ein und zeigt, ob sich diese vollmundigen Versprechen wirklich halten lassen.

Please download slides if blurred! == Der Vortrag „Migration von stark regulierten Anwendungen in die Cloud: Dem Teufel die Seele verkaufen oder Himmel auf Erden?“ erkundet das wachsende Bedürfnis und die Herausforderungen, medizinische Anwendungen in die Cloud zu migrieren. Bei den entsprechenden Anwendungen stellt laut einer Umfrage der Datenschutz für 82% der Anwendungen die größte Herausforderung dar, um den Schritt in die Cloud zu machen. Trotzdem wächst der Druck, diesen Schritt zu vollziehen, aufgrund des Innovations- und Digitalisierungsbedarfs, der durch gesetzliche Initiativen wie das Krankenhaus-Zukunftsgesetz, gestiegene Patientenerwartungen und den immer klareren medizinischen Impact der Digitalisierung angetrieben wird. Die zentrale Frage, die in diesem Vortrag erörtert wird, ist, wie man hochregulierte Anwendungen schrittweise in die Cloud migrieren kann. Hierzu werden wir einen Ansatz vorstellen und anhand von exemplarischen Anwendungen demonstrieren, wie eine solche Migration erfolgreich durchgeführt werden kann. Abschließend fassen wir den Vortrag mit fünf leitenden Prinzipien zusammen, die bei der Migration von stark regulierten Anwendungen in die Cloud beachtet werden sollten. Diese Prinzipien bieten einen nützlichen Leitfaden für Unternehmen und Institutionen, die den Umzug ihrer Anwendungen in die Cloud erwägen, und sollen dazu beitragen, die Herausforderungen der Cloud-Migration in diesem hochregulierten Bereich erfolgreich zu bewältigen.

Please download slides if blurred! == Continuous Delivery ist allgegenwärtig. Wirklich? Viele Teams straucheln immer noch dabei, regelmäßig gut getestete und vor allem sichere Software auszuliefern. Immer mit der gleichen, guten alten Ausrede: die nicht-funktionalen Tests seien zu aufwändig und zu teuer umzusetzen. Doch genau das Gegenteil ist der Fall! In diesem Vortrag gehen wir kurz auf die aktuellen Bedrohungen und die Bedeutung früher und regelmäßiger Sicherheitstests von APIs ein. Anschließend zeigen wir, wie einfach es ist, diese Tests kontinuierlich und asynchron mit OWASP ZAP und Testkube gegen REST- und GraphQL-APIs direkt auf einem Kubernetes-Cluster auszuführen; immer dann wenn sich die API und der Service ändern.

betterCode(Spring), Juni 2023, Dirk Kröhan (Software Architect bei QAware) Integrationstests sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Softwareentwicklungsprozesses, da sie sicherstellen, dass alle Teile einer Anwendung sauber zusammenarbeiten. Mit zunehmender Größe und Komplexität einer Anwendung steigt auch üblicherweise die Anzahl der Integrationstest. Damit die Ausführungszeit der Integrationstests nicht zum Bottleneck in unserer CI/CD-Pipeline wird, geht es in diesem Talk um Techniken zur Beschleunigung von Integrationstests in einer Spring-Boot-Anwendung. Der Großteil der Ausführungszeit geht fast immer für die Erstellung des sogenannten "Spring Context" drauf. Damit nicht für jeden Integrationstest ein komplett neuer Spring Context erstellt werden muss, bringt Spring Boot bereits von Haus aus ein Konzept mit. Doch wenn man nicht aufpasst, wird dieses Konzept schnell ausgehebelt und man profitiert eben nicht von schnell laufenden Integrationstests. Worauf man bei der Erstellung von Spring-Boot-Integrationstests unbedingt achten sollte, was es mit "Spring Boot Test Slices" auf sich hat und welche Möglichkeiten es sonst noch gibt, um schnellere Integrationstests zu bekommen, erfahrt ihr in diesem Talk.

Migrationen bleiben im Prototyp-Stadium stecken, ungeeignete Software in der Cloud verfehlt die Ziele, dem Migrationsprojekt wird unterwegs der Geldhahn zugedreht, erhoffte Einsparungen stellen sich nicht ein. In diesem Vortrag stellen wir eine adaptive Strategie vor, die die Herausforderungen und Risiken bei Modernisierungs- und Migrationsprojekten direkt adressiert. Die Strategie haben wir in einem großen Migrations-Programm mit hunderten Anwendungen erfolgreich gelebt, sie lässt sich aber genauso gut für kleine Größenordnungen und für andere Arten von Modernisierungsvorhaben verwenden. Wir gehen gemeinsam das Leben eines Cloud-Modernisierungs-Projektes durch, von der Inception bis hin zum Post-Modernisierungs-Nachbrenner.

Es wäre doch schön, wenn es ein kleines, schlankes Werkzeug gäbe, um Policies überall einheitlich umzusetzen.Der Open Policy Agent (OPA) ist eine generische, cloud-native Open Source Policy Engine. OPA ermöglicht es, Policies einheitlich zu definieren und an vielen Stellen im Betriebs-, Deployment- und Entwicklungs-Stack umzusetzen, unter anderem für Autorisierung, Prüfung von Konfigurationen, Admission Control oder jeder anderen Art von Policies.

Im einfachsten Fall reicht es schon, das eingesetzte Framework richtig zu konfigurieren. Dann spricht die UI mit einem OIDC-geschützen Backend. Oder man schützt einen Service und authentifiziert mit OIDC die Benutzer. Doch meistens gibt es nicht nur ein einziges Integrationsszenario.In diesem Workshop setzen wir an einer Single Page App, einem Backend-Service und einer Mobile bzw. Desktop App die möglichen Integrationsszenarien um und lernen so die Vor- und Nachteile der Szenarien kennen. Zum Abschluss probieren wir, den Zugriff auf den API-Server eines Kubernetes Cluster mittels OIDC zu schützen und zu personalisieren. Voraussetzungen: Laufendes Kubernetes (vorzugsweise Minikube) inkl. kubectl, Git, Helm, ggf. Flux CD.

Wie schafft man es, dass sich ein Entwickler in einem Microservice sofort zuhause fühlt, ohne ihn vorher je gesehen zu haben? Wie schafft man es, dass alle Microservices die gleiche Grundstruktur behalten und warum sollte man das überhaupt wollen? Wie vermeidet man Divergenzen in Setup und Struktur, während unterschiedliche Teams an den Microservices arbeiten? Wie setzt man schnell einen neuen Microservice auf, der in seinem Aufbau den bestehenden ähnelt?Wir wollen zeigen, welche Vorteile Templates für die Entwicklung von Microservices haben und welche Methoden in diesem Kontext nützlich sind. Please download slides if blurred! == Ein Kubernetes Cluster ist heutzutage schnell aufgesetzt: ob mit Installationsplattformen wie Rancher oder in der Public Cloud als Managed Service wie AWS EKS. Doch die größten Probleme ergeben sich im aktiven Betrieb des Clusters. Im Enterprise-Umfeld hat die Konzern-Security sehr viele Anforderungen an den Cluster, ohne die ein Produktiveinsatz nicht möglich ist. Es stellt sich nun die Frage: Brauche ich Enterprise-Versionen von Security Tools oder gibt es auch gute Open Source Tools, die all meine Anforderungen erfüllen? In meinem Talk möchte ich eine Übersicht über die State-of-the-Art Open Source Tools für verschiedene Kubernetes-Security-Themen geben und zeigen, inwieweit sie allgemeine Enterprise-Anforderungen erfüllen. Die Themen sind unter anderem: - Signierung von Container Images - Mutual TLS zwischen Microservices - Container und Application Vulnerability Scanning - Cluster Runtime Security - Governance durch Policies Dabei ergänze ich jede Vorstellung der Tools mit Erfahrungen und Best Practices aus dem Projektalltag und zeige die Limitierungen der Tools auf.
